ID Cards that link with SSN and Brith Cert..Ect.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by tammylhoward Jun 30

Having a ID card from the time you are born that has your SSN and other infomation the would identify you as a person. This would limit Identity theft. You could put your high school record and College record. This would help if you get married or change your name. Any record that need to be recorded. Insurance for anything. One card that will hold all information and would be link to you finger print. Bank accounts would be good Idea for this card. If you lost it they would have to be you because they would need your finger print to get another. 9 Comments »

Email Yellow Pages

New Product Ideas submitted by cpinkston Jun 30

I would love to have a website that would allow me to access people's email addresses. Just like an online phonebook, but with email addresses. Why doesn't this exist? If you have ever lost a contact's email address you know how helpful a site like this could be. If phone numbers can be made public so can email addresses and if you wish to not be listed it's that simple. 4 Comments »

thumbs up

New Product Ideas, Service and Support submitted by tbone22 Jun 30

develop a service that accomodates all of a persons financial info and ties it to a thumb print. This means a person with this service would be able to pay for products and services by simply providing a thumb print instead of carrying cash or having credit cards to be stolen. Add thumb readers to ATM machines that also check for a pulse and require a code. 6 Comments »

Warranty reminder - Online Warranty/Support Extension

Service and Support submitted by phubert Apr 23

O.K. comments?

Could Dell provide an _optional_ service to periodically check the remaining warranty on a system and warn perhaps 3 months prior to expiration? Then offer, as appropriate, a link to extend the warranty online?

This could be available for all levels of machines with any operating system.

Could it be offered as an icon that the USER could periodically check, rather than as a PROCESS (i.e. the user would have to manually run the process rather than having something run automatically at every bootup (which might be very infrequent, anyway, for servers!).

Other ways??? Are there other things that could be checked?
Could this be rolled into a product that checked for firmware and driver upgrades, for example? 10 Comments »

Standardize Power Cables for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades.

Make an effort to promote and implement standard power cables for laptops.

More feedback from Dell on popular ideas

IdeaStorm submitted by pjeff Feb 15

I would like to see more (official) feedback from Dell on popular ideas eg. +1000 ideas.
For example, many people have been requesting an LED backlit screen for the XPS M1530. Look on any forum where this model is being discussed and you will see people saying that they are holding off on purchasing until it becomes available (I'm one of them!) so it would be helpful to know what is happening.

Another example would be illuminated keyboards. Saying it is "partially implemented" doesn't really tell us anything. We know you have done that! If a popular idea is not practical or its implementation is problematic for whatever reason, communicate back so discussion can take place. This is how brainstorming works!

I also wonder how many good ideas are overlooked because Dell believe the cost would be too great for the product in question. Be upfront about your concerns regarding costs. For example, you may find that Inspiron/Vostro customers would not be prepared to pay extra for a premium screen and illuminated keyboard but XPS customers are. Post polls so that members can vote on these issues and provide you with accurate data. We are here to help so use us. 7 Comments »

Annoying blue power button

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops submitted by jescott418 Feb 29

I just purchased a Inspiron 530s. Very nice computer, fits nicely in a small space next to desk. Only one problem is the flashing blue power button when in sleep mode. Talk about brite!
I have this computer in a bedroom and its a problem at night.
I end up turning off the computer because I have tried covering it up and it still shines through. 14 Comments »

Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has.

Broadband and Mobility, Dell Web Site, Linux, Laptops submitted by tonyb2006 08/29/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500".

Give users the option of making Firefox the default browser when they turn on for the first time

Software submitted by goldspeaker 12/23/07

When I first buy a new Dell I want to turn it on for the first time and, after I've finished installing Windows, I want a window to pop up asking me which browser to make the default. Both Firefox and IE would already be on there and this single window would come up and give me enough information to make an informed decision as to whether I want to use the open source Firefox or the intergrated Internet Explorer. That way even the most novice of user can say that they have personally chosen to use their browser.

This would solve the following problems:
- Would make it easy for those who have heard of Firefox but didn't understand how to get it to simply and quickly make it their default.
- Would educate every single user that browsers other than IE exist.
- Would inform every sin gle user about the existence of open source software.
- Would not be bias in choosing which browser.
- Would make it even easier for those who know they want Firefox to get it (just one step, rather than going to the site and downloading)
- and more...

Come on people. Isn't this the way it should be? You choose the options that matter the most, straight out of the box.

Thanks for reading. 11 Comments »

Use magsafe power connectors

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon.

They are very cool and quite sensible.
