Personal Web Pages

IdeaStorm submitted by daniel117 Mar 12

Oh sure, we have a "Dashboard" that we can see all the results from our ideas, but don't you think that's not really much? We should have a personal page that we can customize with a theme, a line graph to see how many votes you have, and a gadget where you can view recent comments, and more. We just need a personal web page just like the Dashboard, except a bit fancier. 6 Comments »

Allow User Pictures...

...or icons at least. I don't want to identify Stormers (users) by their name that much. Anyway, we need some color to this website. Avatars that you can edit could be better. 2 Comments »

Ubuntu (RED)

Advertising and Marketing, Linux submitted by daniel117 Mar 12

After hearing of PRODUCT RED products out there, how buying a (RED) product can help AIDS victims, Dell should partner with Ubuntu to get a PRODUCT RED Ubuntu version of the new 7.10. Dell already joined
RED, so Ubuntu should too.

Have Ubuntu on Dell One

Linux, XPS products submitted by daniel117 Mar 12

After hearing a couple magazines and people say Vista has glitches, I think Dell's best computer ever (and best counterpart of Apple's Macs) this computer company should start looking into Linux more, especially Ubuntu. Oh sure, Dell didn't get enough people into Ubuntu, but that can be easily fixed by putting Linux into Dell One. Dell is missing out on more sales from Ubuntu fans and all you geeks out there. Not much of them, but popularity would spread and soon Vista is in the dust (not that I hate Vista, but I like Ubuntu better). 11 Comments »

Make a New Dell Division That is Apple Counter-Part

Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by daniel117 Feb 2

Since Apple expanded its sales by making stuff other than computers, why can't Dell do the same? Apple has the iPods, the iPhone, the iEverything! Dell can't match up to the Apple desktops and notebooks (except pricewise, iMacs are about $1000, as well as the MacBooks). But
Dell can open up a new division to compete with the Apple stuff. It can first start experimenting with iPod counter-parts, and if that works well, it can counter-part all the the others. I know that Dell wouldn't really match up to the iPod sales because Apple was on the spotlight first, but it wouldn't hurt (sales) to at least try. Comment »

Compete with Apple

Advertising and Marketing, Dell, New Product Ideas submitted by daniel117 Feb 1

From my vantage point, I think Dell isn't competing with Apple enough. It's like letting the kids take cookies from the cookie jar, and the takers are Apple's new products and the cookies would be the customers from Dell.
MacBook Air, Apple's new weapon against Dell's XPS notebook product line, challenged Dell by its slim size, the weight, performance, and its wireless connectivity. Hopefully that got Dell a wake-up call. Apple introduced Air at the Keynote Address by Steve Jobs. Of course, Dell can compete easily by the cost, MacBook Air's start at $1799, but the cost of the $500 iPhone didn't stop costumers from buying it. Might be the same case here.

Sell Refurbished Computers in Other Stores

Sales Strategies submitted by daniel117 12/31/07

Well, the title says it. I just got a Best Buy catalog, only to be surprised to see two Dell computers on the front page. So why not sell refurbished computers to stores and online stores like Best Buy and TigerDirect.com?
Anyway, Dell's refurbished computers are probobly collecting dust at the Dell warehouses, waiting to be sold. 2 Comments »

Transparent XPS Case

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by daniel117 12/22/07

While surfing the web, I noticed that some gaming PCs had transparent PC cases. So I said, "Since XPS is mostly and mainly used for gaming, why can't it be like the other systems with transparent cases?"Anyway, it looks cool when all the "behind-the-scenes" stuff can be seen without taking off the lid. There should also be dark blue colored lights inside to enable you to see inside, also like the other gaming systems. 9 Comments »

Make "Post an Idea" Button Bigger

IdeaStorm submitted by daniel117 12/22/07

The new face of IdeaStorm is cool and nicer, but I think Dell is forgetting
what the site was for. The "Post an Idea" button seems suffocated with the other stuff around it. To me, it's a little too small to be the button of the star function of IdeaStorm. Bigger is better so might as well apply that phrase to the button. 10 Comments »

Put Dell Axim PDA Back

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies submitted by daniel117 12/22/07 **REVIEWED**

Dell Axim was introduced back in 2002, and recently dropped the PDA production recently on April 2007. PDA's are helpful devices and I wonder why Dell dropped the product so quickly. Of course Dell is better at desktops and notebooks, but it doesn't mean that they have to drop something Dell was new to. They are producing tablet PCs even though I hardly see them any where. Same should go with the Axim.

Compiz Fusion, Have it be an Option

Linux, Software submitted by daniel117 09/01/07

Update to "Ubuntu Beryl, Have it be an Option" in response to the Beryl-Compiz merger.
------------------------------------------------------------------------...
What do you get when you cross Windows Vista's cool effects and Ubuntu? You get Compiz Fusion!

CompizFusion is a window manager for any type of Linux. But you shouldn't get confused with Windows Aero! CompizFusion is better than ever, with the merger complete! It is eye candy and has much more than Aero! (and CompizFusion has most of the effects Aero has). It has cool effects like Wobbly Windows (windows that move like Jell-o), Fading Windows (fades windows on creation and destruction), Desktop Cube (represents multi-desktop workspaces as a cube) and so MUCH

More Intel Xeon Desktops and Notebooks

Gaming, XPS products, Desktops and Laptops submitted by daniel117 08/19/07

Dell has only one desktop computer that has Xeon and no notebooks. It's time that Xeon should get out of the high-end servers and into the everyday computers. I think that Dell should put Xeon into the XPS gaming desktops for better gaming and also into a XPS notebook (probably it should be an option with XPS M2010). 5 Comments »

Ubuntu Beryl, Have it be an Option

Linux, Software submitted by daniel117 08/17/07

Update:Please do not vote here but vote at the updated idea:Compiz Fusion, Have it be an Option

Sorry for the inconvenience!
------------------------------------------------------------------------...
What do you get when you cross Windows Vista's cool effects and Ubuntu? You get Beryl!

Beryl is a window manager for any type of Linux and is a fork of the Compiz project (Beryl and Compiz are currently merging, once merged, the project will be called Compiz Fusion). But you shouldn't get confused with Windows Aero! Beryl is eye candy, and has much more than Aero (but Beryl has most of the effects Aero has) such as Wobbly Windows (windows that move like Jell-o), Fading Windows (fades windows on creation and destruction), Snow (turns your desktop into a blizzard), and so MUCH more!

Please have Beryl as an option with select Ubuntu computers!

Update: Compiz and Beryl have finally merged into Compiz Fusion! Sorry about the late update! Beryl is discontinued but still supported. And Compiz-Fusion just made their first version after the merger. Also their new website is:http://www.opencompositing.org/
This whole merger is a bit messy for me so don't expect this stuff is accurate!
Stay tuned for the confirmation of this info!
Update:Status:CONFIRMED. Expect a new idea called "Compiz Fusion, Have it be an Option" at 6:45 PM Eastern Time (GMT-05:00 US & Canada) Sept 1,2007. Transfer your votes to that idea. Sorry for the inconvenience. 6 Comments »

Dual Boot, Have the Choice of Ubuntu and Windows

Linux, Operating Systems - Multiboot submitted by daniel117 08/17/07

Why settle for only Windows without Ubuntu and vice versa? Dell should have dual boot on Windows and Ubuntu. Compromising is sometimes good and in this case, its great! 16 Comments »

Nice Skin You Got There!

Desktops, Inspiron products submitted by daniel117 07/04/07

I was thinking of a "skin" to put on your Inspiron desktop computer. You can put that beautiful picture of your son and daughter or even Mona Lisa on the side of your desktop computer to get a one nice, processing, and Windows Vista operating piece of art. By putting a skin on your computer, instead of that blank, white side on your computer, you can mail or e-mail your picture, submit your picture while building your Inspiron PC online at Dell's website, or choose from Dell's archive of photos (which will include Mona Lisa as well) when building your PC. The photo will be on the right side on the computer case.
I can't wait to put my favorite photo on an new Inspiron (if Dell would be interested about this and put this as an option, so please promote it!). 2 Comments »

Linux Kicked Out of the Spotlight

Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by daniel117 07/03/07

At the release of a line of computers with Linux, they put Linux in the banner on the home page, but after that, it's like they put Linux in the back room of the website, with other old links in the stinky, old, cobweb-filled room. The only way you can access the Linux link is by only typing in "Linux" or "Ubuntu" or "FreeDOS" in the "Search" box (a.k.a. where you type searches). Dell should make a link for this product, or they would not really see profit in this, because it wouldn't be popular by not being in the front page, and you know what this means (out the window it goes)! 3 Comments »
