Put wheels on the bottom of PC cases (as an option of course)

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by badblood 09/10/07

Put wheels on the bottom of PC cases (as an option of course). Mag wheels, alloy, spinners, chrome, gold or just plain shopping trolley plastic wheels. Put wheels on the bottom to make it easier to wheel in and wheel out the PC case when you're changing all the bloody cords at the back.

OptiPlex, Vista Business and dual monitors

Monitors and Displays, Operating Systems, OptiPlex products submitted by amg 09/10/07

Would someone terribly mind updating the Premier page so that it does not give the false impression that Dell can fulfill an order for dual monitor support on an OptiPlex 755 running Windows Vista until one has spent the time going through the whole configuration? The average shipping time on an OptiPlex 745 with an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro is well over a month. I don't know who plans out the purchases through Dell's vendors but maybe they need to polish up that old crystal ball. Between the monitor shortage and now the video card shortage, it seems that Dell is not quite on their usual game. 2 Comments »

Build a time capsual

Dell, New Product Ideas submitted by badblood 09/11/07

Build a massive, air tight concrete bunker somewhere in the desert. Build it in a secret location, deep underground. Seal it. Make it water and light proof.

Fill it full of Dell hardware and a massive portrait of Mr Dell and the executive team. Maybe even a statue or two. Put a faux throne in there and fake documents about Dell's rulership of the USA during the late 20th century.

I know it's been done before, but you might want to consider building a massive pyramid over it....

That'll be an interesting find for archaeologists and historians in years to come.

I mean what else are you doing with those billions anyway...... 1 Comment »

tell us how much dell pays for a vista license

Dell, Operating Systems submitted by howlingmadhowie 09/12/07

i for one would be very interested in knowing how much a copy of vista increases the price of a new computer from dell. i think it is a perfectly fair request that the customer be told this. 6 Comments »

Light durable long lasting notebooks

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by datof 09/13/07

You should make notebooks that are
2.1 lb (under a kilogram),

have
8 hrs battery life,

have
waterproof keyboards,

and are fairly durable.

an example http://www.kemplar.com/panasonic_r6.php#Specs
sony also makes light laptops

I believe people would be willing to pay a premium for good quality thin and light notebook and also make sure it's easy to type on. people are even willing to import this notebook at a premium to obtain it. currently the lightest laptop on the website is 3 lb which is a world of difference compared to a 2 lb laptop (such as the asus eee pc) 1 Comment »

Dell, Lock down IdeaStorm till Dell_Admin1 catches up and can reduce her work week to 40-50 hrs.

IdeaStorm submitted by jorge 09/13/07

Dell its time to lock IdeaStorm down to allow dell_admin1 the time to catch up on the work she's backed up on. She's currently working 80hrs a week, way too much unless you're paying her overtime which we know you're not. Lock down the site, let her catch up and get some sleep.

Of course this is not without a benefit to us. All ideas marked implemented will be actually implemented as written or have their status changed to **NOT NOW**. 25 Comments »

Dell: if you CARE about IdeaStorm, establish a "Dell EXECS are LISTENING" forum ON IdeaStorm!

IdeaStorm submitted by phubert 09/14/07

How often have participants here complained about lack of communication from Dell?

In how many ways have participants suggested improvements, including ways to increase PARTICIPATION?

If Dell truly DOES care about what has been coming through IdeaStorm, we've again and again said they need to provide some EVIDENCE of it.

This would be one way.

It could easily be done without revealing the 'family jewels' (things Dell doesn't want to reveal just yet)

After all, if Dell execs don't know HOW to communicate, exactly how can the company RUN???

We're still waiting...

An ALTERNATIVE:

ADD a TAB next to "Ideas in Action"
Make it bright BLUE with orange or black or bright white lettering (high contrast)
Title it "Dell is Listening" 17 Comments »

Are you, ideastorm user, giving up on ideastorm? Why?

IdeaStorm submitted by jmxz 09/14/07

The idea is if we can let Dell know why we're not participating as much [and it seems noone's participating as much as they used to], it might be useful for Dell.

I can think of any of a number of reasons why we might not be coming by as much:

  1. Dell quickly responded to every idea you submitted and now your a totally happy customer?
  2. Dell product managers spend so much of your time requesting more info about your ideas that you don't have the bandwidth to help answer their questions anymore?
  3. Your sponsor noticed that IdeaStorm doesn't really affect what Dell does, so the software company that was paying you to post here stopped paying you?
  4. Everything that can be said to Dell already has been said to Dell; and all that's left is for them to start doing it?
Any other reasons? For me, it's #4. 21 Comments »

Prove that Dell Cares, that Dell is listening

IdeaStorm, Service and Support submitted by badblood 09/14/07

Prove to us that Dell cares about this website, that it actually informs development. 12 Comments »

Dell Show us you don't care nor support IdeaStorm by not implementing ideas and ignoring the site.

IdeaStorm, Service and Support submitted by jorge 09/14/07

Dell prove to us you could care less by never implementing an idea, never responding to anything posted on this site especially anything that will lead to a legal case you will lose or a computer feature you will sell or sell more computers. While you're at it give dell_admin1 yet another task outside of IdeaStorm so she ends up spending even less time working on the already short schedule she has on the site (promoting the ideas and what not, not just being a mod deleting .chris and petzy's comments).

Prove to us you set this up to pigeon hole any problems you have as a company and keep it from your employees by preventing them from venting ... I mean commenting on ideas relating to their work tasks. Oh and prove you feel your employees are not capable of interacting on a public forum without giving out/leak secrets that might conflict with national security. 9 Comments »

LED and OLED displays

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by mike2912 09/14/07

I would like to see more of the laptops and even desktop screens utilise the LED sisplays. The colors are richer and they consume a lot less power. The XPS 1330 is excellent so why not spread the technology to the rest of the products. 1 Comment »

No Limits! Make **all** choices available **anywhere** in the world

Sales Strategies submitted by mrw 09/16/07

First example: The Germans are second class customers, because they don't get the same choices for Ubuntu Laptops as in the USA. We here in Switzerland are even third class customers, because we do not get an Ubuntu Laptop at all.

Other example: The choices I can make for a notebook depends on how I walked through your shop! Sometimes for the same Model, I can chose a low end Harddisk, sometimes not. That's absolutely ridiculous! Please allow any possible hardware combination!

Allow to select any matching hard disk in any laptop (or desktop)! Allow to setup any kind of memory, especially e.g. one(!) 2GB module instead of two 1GB modules, give the choice for between either a mirroring display or an anti-glare display for any available display size and resolution. If technically possible, allow to choose between NVidia and ATI, and allow to chose the Memory of the card. Allow to completely deselect the operating system and all kind of installed software.

First: Make all offers available anywhere in the world!

Second: Do not limit the possible combinations!

Shouldn't the customer be king? Let us all choices! 34 Comments »

Offer bluetooth on all Dell computers at no extra charge - make bluetooth standard.

Broadband and Mobility, Sales Strategies submitted by badblood 09/17/07

As in Free Bluetooth.

Make it a time bound promotion if you can't or are unwilling to sustain it.

After the promotion, make bluetooth a standard on all computers. Integrate the cost in the price of the computer - and reduce the cost while you are at it.....(Kudos jmxz) 9 Comments »

Reposition the touchpad!

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by sidharthg 09/17/07

Using of touch pad with thumbs or while typing is very difficult. It better to reposition them on top of the laptop keyboard. That way we can easily use the touch pad with fingers and type faster! Although the keys would have to come down..! But definately the touch pad should be on top for better ergonomics! 3 Comments »

Rethink the terms of service to be able to sue us......

Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by badblood 09/18/07

Ideastorm is legally governed in accordance with the Laws of the State of Texas, or so the terms of use say. Given that Texas does not have an extradition agreement with many countries around the world and given that many of the contributors are neither resident nor citizens of Texas (if it's possible to be a citizen of Texas given that Texas isn't a country) I wonder how they can hope to enforce the terms of service. The upshot is that legally the terms of service don't really apply to anyone living outside of the US. So how can Dell possibly hope to sue anyone in case they breach the terms of service?

Dell recruit a qualified lawyer who has traveled outside of Texas to look into this important issue!

Pick up the pace on the status tags

IdeaStorm submitted by jervis961 09/18/07

I thought Michael Dell always reviews the top 20 ideas on the site and the Executive board discusses them as well. There are ideas on the front page without a staus tag. You might want to look at page 2 also as all but 4 ideas have no status tag assigned. 27 Comments »
