Desktop tower with LCD display on the side.

Desktops, Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas submitted by chewd 05/03/07

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Take an ATX (or micro) case, stick a 17" (or 15) flat-panel display on the side (ideally with a snap-on cover) put a handle on the top, maybe have the keyboard & mouse clip on or slide out somehow, and youll have the ultimate LAN party machine. All the upgradability and performance of a desktop machine with -some- portability.

Its also ideal for people who want to limit cable clutter or have limited space under the desk.

Please pardon my limited gimp skills. Also apologies to dell for taking their product images & butchering them :) 38 Comments »

LED backlit 30" LCD Monitor

Monitors and Displays submitted by mcfazeli 07/11/07

The next round of upgrades to the high-end Dell display line should bring in LED backlighting and 120 HZ true refresh rate if possible. Not only would this enhance the contrast and colour reproduction of the screen (assuming you still aim for the 92% NTSC gamut like the 3007 HC model), but it would be more energy efficient, and natively support the 24 fps media like Blu-ray and HD DVD.

The 30" would be the ultimate display. A 27", 24", 22" and 20" would round out the best display line on the market.

I for one will not upgrade my 2405 FPW to the 30" model until I can buy one that has most of the characteristics I mentioned above. Comment »

As long as you're not offering 1ms lcd, offer CRT alternatives.

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies submitted by bbr 08/21/07

Monitor refresh rates for gaming (fast movement) is very important.
With 1 ms refresh rates, lcd monitors are about as close to CRT as it gets, but with all the benefits of a LCD monitor.

However. the most commonplace LCD monitors are 4 or 8 ms speed.. the expensive ones are 2 ms.

* Dell doesn't list the refresh rate or performance of the lcds that it sells. It'd be nice if this information was added.
* Dell should look into improving the technology. BenQ is coming up with a 1 ms prototype before the end of the year. 6 Comments »

22" WUXGA Widescreen LCD

Monitors and Displays, New Product Ideas submitted by sh4z 08/13/07

I would like to see a widescreen 22" WUXGA LCD with full 1080p support.
at least 2ms response time and 2000:1 or more contrast ratio. The current 22" screens have a maximum native resolution of WSXGA 1680x1050 which is not enough to view the new standard in HD content. 3 Comments »

High DPI 24-inch monitor

Monitors and Displays submitted by st_0_0_0 04/20/07

How about a 24-inch LCD with 2560x1600 resolution? I love the size of the current 2407, but the 100 dpi seems a little too low-res. 9 Comments »

high resolution lcd monitors

Monitors and Displays submitted by jrowley 05/27/07

I have an E1705 laptop with the WUXGA display and absolutely love it.

I am in the market to upgrade my two 19" regular sized lcd displays at home and am disappointed that in order to get the WUXGA, I have to purchase at least a 24" widescreen.

If Dell can offer WUXGA on a 17.1" laptop display, why can't it also be offered on a new 19" or 20" widescreen desktop LCD? 1 Comment »

Unleash the full potential of Linux's multi-user capabilities: Ubuntu + Ndiyo's Hubster

Linux, Operating Systems - Multiboot, Desktops and Laptops submitted by limulus 08/02/07

When you think of a Windows machine, generally speaking, its a box connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse, which one user uses at a time. Dell's Desktop Ubuntu machines are currently shipped the same way.

But Ubuntu is Linux and so has the potential for many users to use the same computer at the same time, as is done with a server.

Imagine if you will being able to buy a single computer and everyone in the house can use it at the same time; no more fighting over who gets to use it when or who gets stuck using the old computer if there is another one. This is the exciting potential of Ndiyo's Hubster.

"Hubster is the first ultra-thin-client terminal with completely user-configurable hardware"

* plug a USB hub into your computer
* plug the Hubster, a USB keyboard and mouse into the hub
* plug a monitor into the Hubster

and you have a Terminal that behaves just as if it were its own computer. Repeat the process for a second Terminal, etc.

Some new monitors will even have the hub built right in to make it that much easier.

Watch the demo video on their page and be as awe-struck as I was :-)

AFAIK, there is nothing currently like this offered by any major OEM; if Dell were to get it to market I'm sure many families would want one! 18 Comments »

Make A Wireless Dell

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by reg 08/07/07 **COMING SOON**

Apple has a real, valid point: Too many cables in a typical PC setup.

I think Dell could make a combo cable, or a unified display (display/camera/stereo speakers).

Dell should work on a nice clean design - like Apple's clean design - less cable rat nests, more computing power. 220 Comments »

15.4 size XPS system

XPS products, Laptops submitted by lilredfoxie 02/16/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

I think theyre needs to be another 15.4" size XPS system, currently the XPS lineup has no middle ground, theres either the m1210 which is too small, or the m1710 which is too large ( I dont count the m2010, since its not really a laptop, its more of its own hybrid desktop/laptop comptuer thing) use the e1505 chassis, give it the cool XPS lights, and a D-dock connectior below
Check out the Idea in Action post for details about our new 15in system.

All possible options should be available via the website

Dell Web Site submitted by steve0073 07/27/07

On the Dell website, many options are not available. But they are available when ordering by phone. For example, the Inspiron 1720 can't be configured with an 7200rpm harddrive, but it can be ordered with such harddrives by phone (yes, I asked).

Now, this is what I don't get:
Every person who wasn't asleep during the last 20 years can tell you that taking orders by phone is much, much more expensive for a company than taking orders via a website. Orders by phone take time, use up expensive human resources. You maybe need to hire more people for this, and the already hired ones are stressed out and don't have the time for real special cases where they would be really needed. And they maybe even forget to call you back because they're just too busy (yes, happened to me twice now).
That adds up to more costs and bad customer service.
If you would allow configuring everything on the website, you would have a lot less people calling your customer service.

So please Dell, provide all the possible options directly on the website so we can order what we want/need much easier and with less stress, and less cost for you. 5 Comments »
