Allow all customers to be routed to domestic call centers at request

Service and Support submitted by jabrieldonohue 11/13/07

The India call centers seem to do fine just up until the point that there's actually a situation that requires some circular thinking. At this point it would be ideal to have the option to be transferred to a call center that is capable of thinking around the protocol a bit. This is not a dig at India but the infuriatingly long time it takes to handle an issue person-to-person with an India based call center.

I understand IT has the option to be routed to US call centers, I put forth that much in customer satisfaction would be gained if that were expanded to sales as well. Comment »

Dell and Windows Mellinum

Operating Systems, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by windowsgenius 11/13/07

You know what sucks, dell only lets you get laptops and desktops with windows xp and vista. i mean come on! We as the consumer should be able to get our computers with windows 98 and ME if we want. Who cares if it is out dated or just plain dumb. We should get what we want without having to pay somewhere else for windows 98. Remember those old games like flight simular 95 and space simulator? they are to slow on our modern computers. but what if we want to play them? huh? think about it. alright? 7 Comments »

Give Us Some More RAM

submitted by pizza 11/14/07

I've been buying from Dell for a long time and I'm sorry but this is really bugging me. First of all Windows Vista uses resources and you should have at least 2GB of RAM in your Dell system. Dell in all there wisdom are offering 1GB of RAM included and making us pay more if we want the 2GB WE SHOULD HAVE. I really don't see why they can't include 2GB so there customers can have a PC that runs well since Dell has almost abandoned XP and forcing us to use Vista. My Dad bought me an Inspiron 530S for my birthday and OK so the first time the computer stars up slow because it needs toconfigure all of the stuff right? Well second and third time around it is a bit faster but still not as fast as I would like it being a NEW PC. My Dad's XP starts up in UNDER ONE MINUTE! Here he have people saying OHHH YEAH Vista is going to have blazing fast start-up times. Well that isn't happening. I for one am NEVER going to buy from Dell again. They are greedy and make it impossible to upgrade the PC's you buy so you HAVE to buy a new one. I have 2 Dell PC's and I am just going to return them and build my own I think Dell does not care for there customers and want to jack up the price for every little thing in the PC.

ALSO: I have had to have a tech support guy come over 4 TIMES to fix my Dads computer. 2 times for the fan, and the next time he came to replace the motherboard and the motherboard was faulty. Great work Dell. So he had to come again and finally his computer works. 3 Comments »

Keyboards Upfront for Notebooks / Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by samsonik 11/08/07

Before the arrival of Windows 3.1 all laptops had the keyboard upfront which was easy to use !

Shortly after the deployement of 3.1 everyone put the keyboard at the back and the touchpas upfront.

At the end of the day professional IT people use conveniently a mouse.

But in any case scenario, the keyboard at the front of the PC was MUCH MUCH EASIER to use.

Could we come back to the keyboard logically at the front of the laptop, with the mouse pad behind, as a backup in case the mouse is out of order !

Dell : heres how to come up with a cheaper computer

Dell, Desktops and Laptops submitted by agrawalavinash1 11/07/07

Dell /Gateway/Everex to come up with a cheaper computer that does not have default DVD or DVD-RW in their computers :
To request Dell/Gateway/Everex to come up with a the cheapest computer that you can tout as most economical($100-$300 range), that has:

a) No DVD or DVD/CD -RW
b) No lines to connect to printer, external displays
c) No dial-up modem
d) No unnecessary outputs etc at back of computer
e) Hard drive no more than 20Gig

Reason for above:
The computer would be forward looking. as (a) it uses the Internet for watching movies etc (hence no need for DVD or DVD/CD R-W), (b) it uses Internet for printing, it can upload files via Internet to print at Fedex-Kinko or Walgreens, (c) No dial-up model since it uses either DSL or cable, etc, (d) There are lots of unnessary pins at back of computer, they can be removed, (e) Since storage would be on Internet, Hard drive no more than 20Gig needed.

This is because, with online videos etc growing and storage of documents, spreadsheets etc stored online, there should be NO need to DVD, DVD-RW anymore. Also unnessarily creating DVDs harms the planet. This will also be cheaper for consumers.
But it does have good processing power and good network connectivity
Thanks,

Outsourcing, Philippines is the way to go!

submitted by daryldeal 11/11/07

Hey Dell, im just wondering when are you guys gonna expand your customer and tech support services in the Philippines? i mean, to say it frankly, i'd rather talk to a neutral accent'd filipino that would work with you to resolve a problem than a thick indian accent'd Indian that would speak like a machine gun that would rush the resolution in your concern. 13 Comments »

Purchasing Incentives: Getting returns on your Dell purchases

Dell Community, Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by cosmichellion 11/13/07

Dell, I would like to suggest that you offer a monetary credit for purchasing Dell product. Not that I have any exact numbers to offer up but here is just an idea...

Lets just say, you offer home users $5.00 credit for every $100.00 spent on your products or software and peripherals. When we log into our accounts, we would be able to see how much credit we've earned and then apply it towards whatever purchase we see fit on the website.

As a loyal Dell customer, I've spent thousands of dollars on pc's and accessories. I see this type of incentive as something that would keep people coming back. Computer technology quickly becomes outdated and most of us need to upgrade on components. If this was an option, you could see it as investing in any future upgrades when you buy from Dell now. 1 Comment »

Laotops should be cheaper!

Laptops submitted by windowsgenius 11/13/07

Laptops should be cheaper. I mean come on! how can dell charge over 1000 dollars for an xps when in reality it cost less than 500 dollars for parts and software. Dont get me wrong, i am loyal to the dall brand, they need to lower prices cause pretty soon with taxes and gas going up we wont have enough money to buy their over-priced productrs. 2 Comments »

Making 16:9 Widescreen Monitors for PCs instead of 16:10.

Monitors and Displays submitted by vanderlot 11/13/07

If Dell make monitors like these, then we wouldn't have to worry about getting a LCD TV to hookup to our computers or to any another component to receive signals from here and there (and LCD TVs doesn't always deliver picture perfect quality anyways). Having a type of monitor that will work with everything (especially with movies without having black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and we haven't been focusing on that when it comes on to computers).

So I'm suggesting that you guys consider doing something like this and have a sleek design relative to the current 16:10 LCD monitors. The monitors may carry a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 or more depending the size of the displays. You could still have the 16:10 monitors but separating those from the 16:9 monitors. I think it's a great idea. 15 Comments »

PCIe Flash Drive for OS

New Product Ideas, Laptops submitted by coachcg 11/14/07

This would be great to get in new Dell laptops:

SanDisk revealed Vaulter, a 8GB or 16GB flash drive that can hold your entire OS, designed to sit on the PCIe port inside a laptop. In Windows, this creates a separate letter drive, which speeds the heck out of your computer, without taking the place of your 2.5" SATA-connected HDD. It's not a Santa Rosa "Robson" thing either—it's a real drive, not some caching assistant. (In case you're wondering, Mac support is coming.) Performance acceleration comes from "pre-controlling the distribution of storage data between itself and the hard drive." The fact that it's on the PCIe port means that both storage devices can work in parallel. Now, the bad news: SanDisk is only offering it to OEM partners at first. We won't be able to buy them a la carte for a little while.

Even better if we can get them for upgrades to current laptop models. 14 Comments »

Idea Teams

IdeaStorm submitted by dwood 11/10/07

We should be allowed to start "teams" of users that work together to form ideas that members can actively send ideas back and forth for editing and revision, or members send ideas only viewable by that team in order to get more refined ideas so that they can be better than 'rough' ideas that leave all of the kinks worked out (not in code, but in options in that idea)

one example of a "rough" idea would be this one. 18 Comments »

Update Drivers for Laptops

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjamin89 09/22/07

Example: nVidia has released multiple new drivers continuing to tweak settings and making them more compatible with Vista and games. Dell has not updated its drivers for nVidia products since June, and one only can install Dell drivers for Dell laptops.

Update the drivers for your products regularly or allow the manufacturer of the product's drivers to install. 9 Comments »

Show the Vista performance rating during system configuration.

Dell Web Site submitted by jervis961 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

People may not realize that Vista gives your computer a performance rating based on several factors (processor, RAM, hard drive and video card).
Dell should show the performance rating on the side as you build your computer and update it as you go along changing the configuation. This should give people a guage as to if an upgrade will really improve your overall performance and also what kinds of games and programs your new computer will be capable of.

Up to date video drivers: ATI requires Dell's permission...

Gaming, Monitors and Displays, Service and Support submitted by zorgkang 05/08/07

Dell doesn't bother "forwarding" to us video card driver updates released by ATI. There is an easy solution though and all that Dell has to do is say "ok" to ATI. Please read on.

When trying to update directly from ATI, I am told that I can't update my system and I should ask my laptop manufacturer. Frustrated with this, I search for another way to update my drivers and find much information on

http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/< found out that ATI is not to blame, but Dell is. ATI comments: "We are working diligently on attracting tier1 OEMs to participate in the mobile catalyst program. Once that happens, we will update the validation tool to allow the mobile catalyst drivers to install on those platforms."

So this thread is to strongly insist that Dell join the mobile catalyst program immediately! Please let Dell know we are not satisfied with the video card driver support they provide! 6 Comments »

Continue to supply Windows XP drivers for all systems.

Operating Systems, XPS products submitted by audiofree 07/10/07

Let’s face it, Vista regardless of how Microsoft is trying to possession is not what all customers want. Some of us want to continue to use XP, it’s a lighter faster OS that does what we need. Please continue to support XP drivers at least. I want to buy one of the new 1420s or 1520s but can’t because not all the drivers are available. If you’re not going to sell the laptops with and XP option at least make the drivers available so those of us that want to install XP on our systems can. 20 Comments »
