It could tell the consumers of America why Dell has chosen to pre-install Linux on mainstream computers and hopefully promote the advantages of this new endeavor. Recycle & refurbish old Dell PCs back to Dell for 10% discount

Recycle your old Dell back to Dell for a 10% discount on new equipment. Dell can then secure overwrite erase the hard drive, install Ubuntu + hardware drivers, then donate the hardware to unemployment, food stamp, and welfare offices Nationwide. The social services offices then can pass out the refurbished used equipment to its clients, and Dell can be given BIG tax breaks by the State and Federal Systems.



1. Recycle - Turn it in, don't landfill it.
2. Reuse - There is still life left in that old hardware
3. Reduce - Buy new electronics less often, get 5 years use out of every PC.
4. Refuse - wasteful spending, wasteful practices & wasteful companies.

An even easier site-cleanup idea for Jokes, Dupes, etc.

Would this be an easier way to clean up ideastorm.

1. Have a mode that hides Ideas with negative votes.
2. Add a link to put you into a mode that lets you see Ideas with negative votes.
3. Make the default to hide the negative-voted ideas; so execs and normal users aren't subjected to them.
4. Encourage people to vote down dupes; and let people change their votes so longtime users can re-vote down dupes that they didn't notice were dupes the first time.

For any normal user not clicking on the "also show bad ideas" feature, IdeaStorm would be reasonably clean. Dell_admin* and Dell execs could focus on only ideas voted up. People who have an Idea voted negatively can't complain about censorship; and have the option of lobbying elsewhere (slashdot, digg, msn forums) to getting their bad idea back into positive territory if they want people to see it. 6 Comments »

No Politicians to give speeches from Dell HQ or Dell Campus

Dell do not allow any politician to give a speech from Dell Head Quarters or Dell Campus. Politicians are the kiss of death when they give political speeches from company head quarters or campus, recall what happened to Silicon Graphics! Don't suffer the same consequences!

Dell add a dust/lint filter to the front of your desktop and laptops to reduce the cause of reduced cooling.

Dell add a screen/filter to reduce the amount of dust/lint that gets into the system fan/cooling system. This is not a problem in clean rooms where systems are probably tested but in the real world dust is everywhere, after any amount of heavy use the cooling system efficiency is greatly reduced by dust/lint build up. This can be an option if you do not want the exposure or legal ramifications on old systems, much like the Dell mouse pad on configuring a computer for sale.

Offer the option of a reserve edition Inspiron in 15" (1510) and 17" (1710).

The reserve edition would have:

- choice of 3 burl wood casings (oak, cherry, gray) or leather (black, brown, tan) which surround the display and keyboard, as well as the lid.

- choice of keyboard and touchpad color (Piano Black, Graphite grey, Piano Ivory, or brown).

-Illuminated key caps w/user controlled on/off

-Available choice of what is normally exclusive to the XPS line. Components such as high end video card. High capacity 7200rpm or higher HD, Dual HD, and solid state drive.

-Choice of operating system (Vista, Ubuntu, FreeDos)

-Choice of 24kt gold, silver, or platinum Dell badge on lid and at the bottom of the display.

The REAL media keyboard

We've seen media keyboards that has play / stop / volume and those buttons.

Why not include a universal remote in the keyboard? One that can control all the other devices, such as cable box, DVD player, and so on? Those buttons are PERFECT for that.

Make the remote detachable and act as a free-floating mouse (either thumb-ball type or Wii-type air-motion) and you got a perfect Media Center Keyboard. 3 Comments »

Help Dell Support help Dell Customers.

Provide a how to trouble shoot computers sheet and steps on what to do before picking up the phone/e-mail/chat with with Dell Support.

For example, for a hardware issue have the user run the Dell Diagnostics and then call for support with any error codes for a quick turn around time.

For Software, Dell will need something similar, I don't use the default OS or software so I don't know how people deal with this.

At any rate most people call without any proper knowledge of what they need to provide Dell Support to help them, listing the basic info a user must have on hand would speed things up, i.e. Serial Number/Express Code, Model Number, OS, Special Hardware attached. If Dell Diagnostics lists an error number those numbers should be at the hands of the Support person so they know what it means not having to refer to a manager (as I make them do) to find out what it means.

If any number (customer number, serial number, case number) is entered on the phone by the Customer do not ask it be re-entered several times or repeated verbally after its been entered, how about asking for a verification of the number? If the number does not follow the call thread state so, people keep thinking Dell Support just doesn't look at these entered numbers on the phone making Dell Support look incompetent.

Dell quickly develop a case for both Notebooks and Desktops that either use or are actual transformers. The Movie is going to be out soon and if you time it right you can hit the bandwagon marketing window and cash out! As in sell a plethora of computers using this theme and without using the actual word Transformer! Kids will buy these up by the gross! You can use your outgoing product line as the guts of the transformer computers to use up the remaining P4's and Celerons you still have lying around. These computers do not have to be long lasting only hyped up to sell as a gimmick, and your new Wal-Mart deal can be used to distribute as most of the possible customers will be buying there as it is.

Car companies are gearing up, so don't miss out on this opportunity!

Pre-install kid friendly software and set internet properties accordingly.

I am a parent and every time I start looking for computers for my kids I am surprised on how little computer makers focus on setting desktops and laptops to be used by kids.

Just pre-install applications that are used by kids, games, etc, and pre-setup the internet access so it blocks websites, chat rooms, etc that are not appropriate for kids. Hey, you could even have this as an option with different software and settings depending on the kid's age group.

Make it easy for parents and fun and safer for our kids and we'll start buying more computers for our kids. 8 Comments »

Move Dell HQ near to a Bog & Build a new Green Building Dell Corporate Headquarters.

Sitting in the middle of a city makes people think like an Urban Dweller.
Stuck, thinking inside the box.
Surrounded by dead asphalt, cold metal, and lifeless steel.

So, to improve corporate awareness of environmental issues:
- move Dell HQ to the edge of a bog.

Being close to nature is refreshing and inspiring. The New Dell HQ should have very large atriums and windows to allow everyone to enjoy sunlight and see the living world outside.



The HQ should be far from town, with a large park and ride parking lot 3 miles from DELL HQ.

Natural Gas Shuttle busses and a zero emissions electric monorail can take employees and visitors back and forth to the greatest, greenest corporate headquarters in the USA.

The new facility will be built within walking distance to the wetland, but have Zero impact on the environment - specially designed to be close to nature and use the 'Green Building' engineering best practices.

In the morning the employees will be greeted by birdsong instead of traffic jams.
In the evening the techs can work outside in the large WiFi courtyard, listening to the spring peepers and bullfrogs.

Dell Tablet PC

The XPS and E series notebooks are great, but a move into making 12.1 and 14.1 inch tablet PC convertible notebooks would be fantastic. I can easily see the m1210 and the e1405 being ported to the tablet medium.

Dell you need to get your name up in the NBA boards and join the high rollers in advertising in sporting events that are Team oriented to use them for team building strategies for the company. This improves company moral and adds a company outing to raise moral.

My pork barrel is to move the money from auto racing to non-energy wasting sports.

This can lead to a Dell dept. tournament and increase moral even more! Not to mention increase the health of your employees and increased attendance at work.
