I've alrady posted this idea but it wasn't very explicit : Cut the cost of a 9-cell battery upgrade Sales Strategies, Laptop Power submitted by ccpljat May 6
Yes a 9-cell is more powerful and lasts longer, but $169? Come on. It can't be that much. Cut down the price to honestly reflect the difference. I mean good grief, you can buy a 9-cell replacement for an Inspiron 1720 for $154! An upgrade is always supposed to be less. Linux, XPS products submitted by daniel117 Mar 12 After hearing a couple magazines and people say Vista has glitches, I think Dell's best computer ever (and best counterpart of Apple's Macs) this computer company should start looking into Linux more, especially Ubuntu. Oh sure, Dell didn't get enough people into Ubuntu, but that can be easily fixed by putting Linux into Dell One. Dell is missing out on more sales from Ubuntu fans and all you geeks out there. Not much of them, but popularity would spread and soon Vista is in the dust (not that I hate Vista, but I like Ubuntu better). 11 Comments » XPS products submitted by dabrace1984 May 12 According to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/12/dell-dropping-xps-focusing-on-alienware) Dell is going to be dropping the XPS product line and focusing on the Alienware brand for gaming and high performance computing. Promote this Idea to let Dell know that we need to keep the XPS desktop and laptop product line. 31 Comments » Do not scale back build-to-order systems Desktops and Laptops submitted by masterr Apr 5 **ALREADY OFFERED**
Today in the news I read that Dell "is moving away from its build-to-order model to reduce costs. Dell is limiting the degree to which buyers can dictate specifications while expanding its line of prepackaged models". Please do not do this. The options build-to-order system is what sets Dell above some of the competition. By scaling this back and removing customization choices you remove some of the appeal of buying a Dell machine online. Please do not scale this back. Dell: join in! Offer a low-cost Linux PC! It appears Dell remains afraid of Microsoft... and here is an answer we haven't heard from Dell on IdeaStorm: Dell needs to pick up the pace in releasing new designs Dell, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Mar 13
Dell is notorious for lack of innovation and has been making strides to change. Unfortunately they are still loosing out because they take to long to get to market and by the time they do someone else has usually beat them to the punch. [XPS M1330] The Nvidia 8400 GS runs to hot! Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by abgar Mar 19
The XPS M1330 is potentially a great notebook. But the heatpipe and the whole heatsinksystem is not solved well. The graphic-card runs to hot. The result: the fan is constantly running. This is unnecessary. The problem deters many potential customers - and even costumers who already own the 1330. Use better LCD panels in laptops. Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by mlazarov Feb 26
In order for laptops to be a viable platform for graphical applications, the color reproduction and viewing angles of their displays must be addressed. Most laptops use TN/CCFL displays that suffer from poor color range and color shift. Dell should at very least offer an S-IPS/LED display option in their workstation-class laptops. I realize several of Dell's laptops already have LED backlighting, but there would a significant improvement quality if S-IPS panels were used. I ordered a Inspiron 1520 and I am fed up with the issues: XPS products, Laptops submitted by hoodedthing Mar 18
Okay, I just bought this great XPS m1330, but it's literally falling apart. The top left hinge cover fell off, because it can't clip in because it's not the right size to begin with, or the frame is shifted too far right to begin with (factory defect, nothing is broken on the part). The plate that covers the two headphone jacks and the microphone jack also fell off, I guess it wasn't glued on well enough. I'm not real upset about this, but it's pretty pathetic when my state of the art flagship laptop has pieces FALLING OFF of it. I fixed both instances with some superglue, and they're as good as new now, but tweak the assembly line for the m1330 or something so that this doesn't keep happening. I don't care whether the OS is pre-installed or not, I want all the hardware to be totally supported in the Linux kernel without in mucking around. I currently have a Dell M1210 and I wish the modem would work, just in case I need it. The web cam would work, just in case I need it. At least the Intel wireless card is totally supported.
