Desktops and Laptops submitted by olderthan 05/06/07 I'd like to see colors other than dark gray and corporate off white. Cherry red, royal blue, warm orange etc. 1 Comment » Service and Support submitted by zmaz 05/06/07
I'm not an idiot, so don't treat me like one! When I call the customer support hotline, I'm tired of being told to "click twice on the that looks like the world behind a brick wall" or something like that. Customer service reps should be able to recognize that if I'm asking, say, what port I need to open to do X or Y, or something of the like, I'm probably not a user who doesn't know how to turn the computer on. Instead, how about "You need to open port *number* UDP and port *number* TCP. Do you know how to do that? Provide a way to associate similar ideas/posts IdeaStorm submitted by hjwasson 04/26/07
There should be a way to associate many similar posts together. If you page through IdeaStorm, you will find clouds of posts regarding "Please don't kill the Axim," "Fix the search feature," etc. Laptops submitted by whistleway 05/06/07 No more stickers please. Let the true sexy Dell come out.. 9 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by paulr 05/06/07 Idea: Traditionally PCs and Notebooks have booted from Hard Discs. These days newer technologies such as Solid State Discs (and/or the ever increasing capacity available in SD cards) make it possible to envisage a PC which dispenses with the traditonal Hard-Disc and boots directly from a Solid State Disc (or SD card). Presumably to do this would just require changes in the PC BIOS to instruct it to boot from the alternative drives. 3 Comments » Add "Report Duplicate" link for articles. IdeaStorm submitted by akidan 05/06/07 Similar to the 'Report Abuse' link appearing in each IdeaStorm article, it would be nice to have a 'Report Duplicate' link as well, with the ability to specify the duplicate article. This would prevent wasted time and space on reading duplicates. 6 Comments » User Choice of Wireless operator Broadband and Mobility, Simplify IT submitted by paulr 05/06/07
Notebooks can now come with support for 3G Data services integrated into the machine. These though are restricted to just one network operator. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by theonlyho 05/06/07 Every time I see a Dell laptop, all I can think of is a noisy loud fan. Loud fans to me give a very annoying background noise, and also creates more heat than needed. I say Dell should make or find fans that will be equally effective, but half the sound. That way it's the happy way to go for the user and anyone who have a Dell laptop next to them. 1 Comment » Built-in camera in notebook lid Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by filipzahradnik 05/06/07 I'd love to see a small camera built into the lid of the notebook - just above the display. Some notebooks (like Asus) already have it and it works great for video calling. This would save people having to lug a web cam around... 4 Comments » Make AM/FM receiver optional on all Computers Broadband and Mobility submitted by badblood 05/06/07
To listen to your favorite local progams, especially when there is no internet. Advertising and Marketing, Desktops and Laptops submitted by chilloutfriend 05/06/07 People buy computers to find music, listen to music and organize their music. I enjoy using the free music sharing service iLike. I would suggest that Dell computers come with a link to ilike.com in the browsers (Firefox, Explorer...). Comment » Software submitted by badblood 05/06/07 If you must add crapware, it might as well be free and half way decent. So add Picasa, which is free and half way decent. 2 Comments » Provide one Notebook and one desktop with hardware entirely supported under opensource licences Dell, Linux, Software submitted by monday90 05/06/07 Either source your own drivers and release them under an open source license or build them from hardware that has openly available interfaces. This enables people to install whatever they want, Windows/ Linux /BSD /Opensolaris etc and write their own drivers should they wish to. You wouldn't even have to provide drivers for the latter option. All of this can already be done, the challenge is putting together the best performing rig. 6 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell submitted by sangelnet 05/06/07 Dell should provide power supply testers to all DSP technicians. 1 Comment » Linux, Operating Systems submitted by blackholestorm 05/06/07 Dell recently offered Ubuntu preinstall option. While a step in the right direction, we need to get more Linux distros offered. 7 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by javaprog07 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. Desktops and Laptops submitted by mwmtjm 01/30/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Do away with 512MB of memory as a base option to buy consumer desktops and notebooks. With Vista running best on 1GB at a minimum, don't make customers have a basic experience with the new OS because Dell wants to be able to advertise at a lower price point. The success of Vista -- and subsequently for Dell -- will be largely in word of mouth. Take a long-term view and build the momentum one great customer experience at a time right now! I have a XP Pro retail copy, will soon buy retail vista, I also like Linux: Make WINDOWS-FREE, and OS-Free an option for more than just expensive business lines. Provide Linux Drivers for all your Hardware Linux submitted by gergnz 02/19/07 **IN PROGRESS**
I don't care whether the OS is pre-installed or not, I want all the hardware to be totally supported in the Linux kernel without in mucking around. I currently have a Dell M1210 and I wish the modem would work, just in case I need it. The web cam would work, just in case I need it. At least the Intel wireless card is totally supported. Thanks Intel!! track my votes
