Make secondary batteries an option on all laptops Laptop Power submitted by eaglewonj Jan 24 Please design/allow for the optical drives on all future laptop models to be removed and replaced with an additional battery that slides into the same slot. I see this on some models of laptops and feel it would be nice to have as an option to expand runtime when you don't need an optical drive. It also allows you to swap batteries without shutting down the laptop. 6 Comments » Offer 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista XPS products submitted by jefisher Jan 14 I have been searching for a new laptop and would like to future-resist the purchase and take full advantage of the 4GB RAM that I would like to include, however the only versions of ANY OS that Dell supports is 32-bit only. Dell needs to offer up the 64-bit versions so that 1/2 the warrenty is not voided when I load the 64-bit version from Microsoft using the same licence (which yes is valid). If MS can offer up these disks, why cant Dell? Support 64-bit Computing now 90% of the computers sold at Dell.com can support it. 30 Comments » Stop mounting substandard displays on high end notebooks please... This is the main problem with the India call centers - they have no idea what they are doing. They are obviously reading a scripted diagnosing tool and have no personal knowledge of computing issues. Give Dell employees better discounts so they can experience the customer experience Dell submitted by pwalker 02/02/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Dell employees tell me they don't get discounts on Dell products. It's time to give Dell employees good discounts so they will more frequently experience your customer experience. This is important. I believe motivating them to be Dell customers more frequently will generate a lot of ideas for improving dell.com, products and services. National Call Centers [and other Service Improvement Ideas] Service and Support submitted by henrieb 02/17/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
As a corporate customer I like Dell's products and my USA customer support. I have read the web about all the people that have had problems with Dell customer service and mine and others are not isolated incidences. If you want people to be loyal take a hint from the corporate sales and give Home users even a little customer support. My corporate help does not read scripts, they have the power to take ownership and fix the problem. Granted I do buy Gold support. If Dell thinks it saves money for bad support; I have personally talked 20 or 30 people out of buying a Dell. Better Notebook sound and features Laptops submitted by foxx 02/17/07
I was looking for a high end notebook for video editing. Every Dell model I looked at was missing something essential. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by rarmasu 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. I would like to see Dell offer a Bluetooth number pad option for laptops. The world is adopting wireless options and a search for bluetooth number pad's has turned up nothing. The closest options to external number pads are 2.4 ghz and cable based. There is one option though, and it is the Logitech Dinovo Keyboard set. I am not about to pay $170 for a keyboard set when all I want is a number pad. As there have been several stories online attributing a "tingle" sensation when using notebooks (of any kind, not just Dell!) that employ an AC adapter with only 2 prongs, Dell should make a 3-prong adapter the standard. The third prong provides a ground, which allows for a much more comfortable feeling as opposed to any kind of tingling or shock. Dell, please do this for the comfort and peace of mind of your customers! easy capital letters on a keyboard Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas submitted by sean22 Jan 29 Instead of holding shift and presing the letter you need at one to get a upper case letter, you could press shift then type that letter with out holding the shift key. One of the biggest annoyances with IdeaStorm is that the horizon for an idea being implemented is very blurry, if at all existing. If you're lucky, you get "third quarter 2009", but mostly, there is no timeframe at all. This leads to the feeling that not much is being done, and exactly that feeling is what IdeaStorm should be eliminating.
