Glare and reflection from high glare screens, screen frames, and notebook computers is annoying and distract from function and use.
In stores, this may be a marketing ploy. Consumers may not fully understand the problem of glare. Online sellers like Dell should inform buyers when shopping whether the screen and case are "glare" or "nonglare."
When "nonglare" was introduced to television, shoppers considered it an advantage worthy of extra expense. In the art world, nonglare glass is considered worthy of extra expense.
How did we ever get glossy screens?
Dell should offer customers a choice between "glare" and "nonglare." 244 Comments »

"Printer Command Language, more commonly referred to as PCL, is a Page description language (PDL) developed by HP as a printer protocol and has become a de facto industry standard." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printer_Command_Language If you make make printers that support pcl these drivers shold work with your printers: CUPS-Compatible: pxlmono and pxlcolor drivers (GhostScript built-in) gutenprint (GPL (free software)) Edit: "Vista too. [...]Googling for "Vista PCL 64 bit driver" returns lots of results. Without a well documented interface like PCL, it's harder."(in a comment by jmxz ) 17 Comments »
well watch this video to see how dell's XPS 1330 and 1530 Glossy Color in red and scratch test very nice Gorgeous. i hope Dell would implement this design of Glossy Color just watch how vibrant the red color on Glossy finish imagine the blue, black , white, etc color option, if this would be implemented as an option Now to the XPS 1530 and 1330, Dell staff , administrator have you implemented this idea? i hope you could implement this!!! NOW!!!
@ this time its not finish it seems to have bubbles but the finish product is so shinny and well protected from scratches
it seems to be bubbly and not smooth because the process is not finish you will have to remove the excess air and water but overall it will be a glossy finish and well protected from scratch 15 Comments »
Dell I have absolutely no need for Microsoft Works 8.0. Especially on a PC designed for multimedia entertainment! Please give me the option of having a PC without any office software at all.
Please SIMPLIFY MY IT experience by giving me the opportunity to avoid the uninstall process. 26 Comments »
I'm not exactly sure what the role of the salesperson is at Dell. I have called and chatted with them about why I cannot get 1440 x 900 resolution for the Inspiron 1525. They offered it initially but then dropped it for some reason.
All the Dell salespeople can tell me is that they have the 1280 x 800 resolution available. I can see that from the website, but I want to know why a product has been changed, and most have no idea that it was initially offered at the higher resolution even though numerous online reviews state it. Did they run out of panels?
I don't need someone typing something I can read for myself on the website, I need product help. Either train up the sales staff more or create a new department. Comment »
Dell needs to offer faster RAM (i.e. If the FSB on the laptop is 800Mhz then match with 800Mhz RAM rather than 667Mhz RAM). I always have to buy the minimum amount of RAM for the system and end up throwing it away. They charge me $350 for 2GB of 667Mhz then I turn around and purchase 4GB of 800Mhz for $130. Since they make you buy at least 2GB... it is such a waiste! 7 Comments »
There has been much speculation about a leaked picture of a possible upcoming Dell ultraportable. Some say 13.3 inch others think it is 15" and some even speculate it is the 16" from the XPS they showed at CES. Upon magnification you can see it has the following visable: Slot load DVD, 2 USB, Ethernet and 2 other ports (display port and power?) on the left side. Also visable is built in web cam on the LED lit screen. It doesn't appear to have media buttons or a fingerprint reader.
The guys in marketing and developement must be getting sick of being scouped by Engadget and with all the flack they have gotten over the other recent releases (XT, M1330 and M1530). Why not create some good PR, scoup Engadget for once and find out some of the complaints while there is still time to tweak the system. Discuss this system Dell as it can only lead to a better product and greater buzz for it in the process. 46 Comments »
I dont know why dell hasnt done this yet. switch all monitors on desktops and notebooks to LED. did you know that you can run an LED screen at full brightniess and it uses less power than a LCD monitor at the lowest brighting level?!? its cheaper, its energy efficent, and it needs to be done! promote this, if you demote i wanna know why! 63 Comments »
Clearly, there is a huge pent-up demand for pre-installed GNU/Linux systems from Dell. But equally clearly, it would be difficult for Dell to make, sell and support such systems with its current business model.
Why doesn't Dell adopt the solution outlined by Harvard professor Clayton Christensen in his book The Innovator's Dilemma? That is, to set up a completely autonomous division, dedicated solely to meeting the demand for such systems - one that is not obliged to follow any of Dell's traditional practices.
Unconstrained by Dell's current methods or cost structures, it will be able to explore, devise and adopt innovative solutions to serve this very different market profitably. Dell makes money, people get their pre-installed systems. 44 Comments »
I live in California but I prefer to use a French Canadian keyboard. To get a laptop with a French Canadian keyboard, I had to order my computer from the Canadian web site dell.ca and have the computer shipped (from the USA factory) to Canada and then have it shipped back to the USA.
If it is made in the USA why can't it be shipped to the USA?
I am sure there are many people in the States that would like to use a Spanish keyboard if it was available.
Similarly, a wider selection of keyboards should be offered in most countries, both for laptops and desktops. 6 Comments »
Since power costs are a significant part of total cost of ownership it would be helpful to see the power consumption of selected items in the shop.
Maybe you could also show the consequences of additional Memory, higher display resolution and different user styles (gaming, internet, fulltime office work, etc.) and provide a total power cost projection. 5 Comments »
I've noticed that Dell's web sites are a bit disjointed and disconnected. It give the impression Dell's left hand doesn't know what it's right hand it up to. The solution is to create DellPortal. A single web site that can take you to any other part of Dells on-line offerings.
As part of DellPortal Dell should create an on-line video library. A bit like StudioDell but with decent content or every on-line video Dell produces. It would give us a one stop shop to finding Dell stuff on-line. Simplifying IT :o)21 Comments »
I just got a shiny new M1330 and all the extras that are built into the laptop are great! BUT... the built-in microphone is so weak it's unusable. By the time it picks up anything close to my voice, I'm either screaming or about 3" away from the mic (which then looks pretty silly on the webcam) Comment »
I have noticed a lot of Ideas are repeats. I would like to help solve this problem by finding Ideas that fit under basically the same Guidelines. What do you think?
I have noticed that the search puts up a LOT of The Same idea Twices: Idea X would be on page 5 but Idea X was already on page 1 A more efficient search function would be GREAT. Please tell me if i put up the same idea twice or missed an idea. 53 Comments »
Offer the coolest OS on your coolest laptop. I'd be great to buy such a cool laptop knowing ubuntu would work flawlessly on it. Maybe even add Beryl into the default install so that the graphics on the screen were as nice to look at as the laptop itself. I'd even take a dual-boot with Vista - just something to assure me that on the system is Linux ready.
You really, really, really screwed up when your company decided to stop offering the Dell all-in-1 monitor LCD mount for your small form factor business PCs.
That All In 1 had an easy to carry handle on the top of it that allowed are techs to mount everything on the unit and carry 2 out at a time by using the handle on top. Since you discontinued that - now we've just been forced to increase our workload by 4 steps!
Before - with the all in one, everything was mounted together. Now, our techs must take the PCs out to the vehicles, then come back for the monitors, then come back for the keyboard, mice and power cords.
With the all in one, it was super convenient. Bring that unit back for us! We loved it and not having it is causing us more work. 2 Comments »
From all of the press I have read it is plain that Vista is a big bomb. To buy the cheapest version I hear it isn't even as good as XP SP2. At the same time you need at least 4 Gig to run it. Offer other options... I don't care if it's Linux, XP, or a rat running on a wheel. Don't make us buy Vista. You can read more about this the OS options Dell offers here.
