Option on Website to display ALL Dell systems offering Windows XP

Dell submitted by arcturus 12/07/07

As Dell has now brought back Windows XP to a number of its system offerings, I think it would be a boon for Dell to have a selection from the Dell main website page to select to display ALL Dell systems (Desktops, Notebooks, Workstations, etc) currently offering WIndows XP (Either flavor) as an Operation System selection. All on one page (or series of pages) without having to traverse the entire website trying determine which systems offer XP and which do not.

This would allow those customers, who are waiting for Vista to prove itself (and allow for future service packs for Vista) OR simply DO NOT want Vista on their system to find the systems Dell has available with Windows XP...In particular XP Pro.

Simplify it...easier for quicker revenue generation, Dell.

Monitor/Laptop Display Toggleing

Vostro products submitted by waterdog 12/07/07

I would like to see Dell provide the functionality in the Vostro 1500 laptop to toggle the display to an external monitor only. The only current choice is to toggle between combined external monitor and laptop display and laptop display only.

I was told by Dell Tech Support that this model laptop was not designed with this functionality. 1 Comment »

Dimension 9150 stock Heatsink

Dimension products submitted by proto 12/07/07

So I was taking apart my Dell to clean it out, and for the first time in 4 years I actually removed the entire heatsink and cleaned it out.

What do I find? Well, I was expecting a pretty mediocre heatsink, nothing special. To my surprise, it's actually made quite well, and looks like a pretty decent heatsink. Along the lines of a smaller Thermalright styled hs. Altought I couldn't tell whether it was an Intel hs or a Dell proprietary.

Well, it seems the heatsink needs to be clipped and screwed in to the Dell 'air-duct'. Considering the stock CPU fan is rather week(and I mean week, like the kind of fan someone would use in a 'silent' PC), this air duct does nothing more than restrict the heat dissipation. Which, of course, is what a hs is all about right? Not only this, but the thermal paste that was used is so degraded that it's really not doing much anymore.

Here's my idea.

1. Replace Stock fan. Easy

2. Remove Air Duct. Easy.

3. Fabricate or buy brackets to install the heatsink without the air duct.

4. Should I really do this now, anyway? I mean, my Asus Maximus is coming for Christmas...and the Q9450's(which I'm buying one :D) comes out Jan 20th. I mean, I'll have a new system by Feb, so this probably isn't worth it. But could be a fun little mod to increase airflow and heat dissipation in the case. My 7950GT runs idle around 48, and load around 55/56. Not acceptable in my opinion for a GPU. 3 Comments »

13.3" Latitude

Latitude products submitted by cfuselier 12/07/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

The Latitude line boasts the right set of features for many business users, but the lack of a 13.3" model is a serious gap. A 13.3", 4 - 4.5 pound model is ideal for on-the-go computing (trains, planes, etc). I believe Dell would find an eager market among mobile professionals waiting for such a machine.

The XPS M1330 is a nice notebook, but it lacks some key business-class features such as a docking station port.

Media Direct in DESK TOP COMPUTERS

submitted by curtispetran 12/05/07

Dell can put Media Direct into DESKTOP COMPUTERS.

This will allow desktops to turn on to the Internet quickly. Lack of wait time to get on the Internet. This will sell more DESKTOPS as this will be the fastest turn on time on the market.

The computer with Media Direct would be like a drone at first to get onto the Internet while the other programs are turning on.

Lower wait time and faster on time will sell more computers.

Media Direct on DeskTops could be sold as special items or requested items to stores like MICRO CENTER, SPECIAL ORDER items. Faster is better and less wait time is better and will sell more computers. Or sell MEDIA DIRECT to other computer companies and that will get DELL more money.

MEDIA DIRECT in DESK TOPS FROM DELL.

This could be a stock rewardable item. As good as STOCK BUY BACK programs. GO DELL. Look at this Mike.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by rishitku 12/06/07

Can Dell get a slim MiniPC into the market and a slim Media Center PC that looks like a DVD player, which should look sleek. MiniPCs I mean, Stuff like Shuttle XPC X series.

I would really like it if you offer it with Blu-ray, HDMI, and Core 2 Extreme X7800 2.6GHz. 3 Comments »

Dell Computers be made Mac Compatible?

Operating Systems submitted by rishitku 12/06/07

Can dell computers be made ac compatible.
At least till OSX Leopard. I think its gonna look all hot with Mac on it. Moreover, many Apple customers will be diverted to Dell, as apple is also selling Windows Compatible machines but not with the option, so Dell can start keeping it qwith the option.!! 7 Comments »

Advertise with Barats and Bereta

Advertising and Marketing submitted by hoodedthing 12/06/07

What's with the new "famous" advertising scheme? I bet it's costing way more than it should, just because they're all "famous", and all they really say is "buy a dell". It's kinda silly how little they say, making it look like they're saying as little as possible to meet budget. You guys need a spokesperson.. someone who is associated with Dell whenever you run an advertisement. The barats and bereta guys are pretty funny, and have made somewhat of a name for themselves in the online comedy-sketch community. Have them do ads for you (funny ads are always best) at a fraction of the price you're paying your "famous" people. They'd probably even do a whole skit and say more than six words.

Even if you don't like the barats and bereta guys, get someone else. Middle-age would be best, that way you don't really exclude any age groups. And don't just make him say what everyone else says (e.g. Dell's all-new XPS 1350 is packed with the best hardware and software to give YOU an extreme performance experience. Now thru February get $100 off when you buy an XPS, by mentioning this TV ad!), say something that people will remember (NOT "I can't hear you, because you're not famous". That's lame.) like that budweiser "dude" commercial. It's funny, it's catchy, and he makes budweisers look cool.

Here's some of the stuff that the barats and bereta guys do. (baratsandbereta.com)

Maybe they won't want to endorse Dells, I dunno, but come on guys, you can do better than paying Chuck to say "XPS Power." and Burt to say "..pick your product, pick your pic' and pick your peeps" with his unlowerable eyebrows. 6 Comments »

Hosted applications...

New Product Ideas submitted by eagle0468 12/06/07

Now that Dell is offering hosted storage solutions that many small companies, and home based businesses will find invaluable, the next logical step would be hosted applications. The idea isn't new, and with competing products from Google, the market is quite ripe for competition. Microsoft has been offering the solution but does not push it. Dell could, in my opinion, enhance this marketing oppurtunity with a partnership with Microsoft, or even look into Open Office as a Desktop Office application hosted solution. Other applications such as image editors, disc burning software, etc. could all be made available. The concept could be offered on a use by use basis or subscription level. Both would generate income for the company as well as build brand loyalty. One caviate would be the user having to guarantee some sort of broadband connection. This could offer another marketing opportunity to Dell. 2 Comments »

Need Gigabit Ethernet in M1530.

XPS products submitted by hoodedthing 12/06/07

What about Gigabit ethernet...? It's really not new technology, and it's pretty dissappointing not to see it in the m1530. It wouldn't be that hard to implement now.. Just start sticking gigabit ethernet ports in the laptops instead of 10/100.

This kind of thing is pretty easy to do, it's not expensive for you guys, and makes a huge difference in transfer of files for wired internet. Put gigabit ethernet in the 1530. 9 Comments »

Desktop/Notebook replacement

Desktops and Laptops submitted by diverkle 12/06/07

Dell needs an All-In-One (similar to an iMAC) for people who don't really need a portable notebook.

I've had a notebook for years, but rarely take it out and NEVER use the battery.

Features.
- LCD Screen 15 - 19 inch
- Detached keyboard/mouse (Bluetooth)
- Same drives, slots, ports as a notebook, all in the screen.
- no battery. (You can add an external batter pack option).
- Case/Screen cover, so I can put it in a drawer when I'm not using it.

Why not just get a desktop? - I take it to Florida once a year. 10 Comments »

Why Dell at Walmart/Sam's Club make sense At Christmas.

submitted by robert 12/06/07

I have been an avid supporter of Walmart and especially Sam's Club since their inception. I like to save money. During Christmas, I shop where people say "Merry Christmas", have The Salvation Army, and play Christmas music. I am not alone here. Walmart and Sam's Club do this. My family and friends are all a part of this massive, consumer segment. So what? This segment spends a lot at Christmas and are particular where they spend it. This segment buys computers and accesories. Compare Walmart's recent revenue reports versus Target this season. Dell's decision to retail with Walmart may take some time to get in gear but it will work in the long term. Comment »
