Make memory upgrades EASIER, not more difficult

Sales Strategies, Simplify IT, Laptops submitted by nicopoon 08/19/07

I've always been able to upgrade memory myself on notebooks and laptops, but am concerned to see that Dell has made it so much harder to upgrade memory on new notebooks. You apparently now have to take the notebook apart by removing the keyboard to access memory slots. Why make it so hard for your customers, Mr Dell? All I can see is a lot of unneeded support calls and parts failures as a result of this change.

Besides, I am stunned to see memory prices on the online configurators. 4GB of notebook memory for $400+, while anyone can get the same quality memory under $150 in retail?

Please: either make memory price competitive, and I'll buy the 4GB upfront, or make it easy to upgrade it... before users break their notebook in the process. 9 Comments »

Dell's Website must work with Firefox running on Linux

Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by qgonjon 07/16/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

It's discouraging to have a Tier 1 vendor (Dell) selling Linux products and yet not really tailoring to Linux. Don't get me wrong Dell, I am not trying to take away all the good you have done. Offering Linux is a step in the right direction and I would like to see more steps taken in a monthly or quarterly basis. But, it seems that the basis for your current Linux promotion is for the Open Source enthusiast like me. I use Linux at home and at work as my main operating system. I use Firefox as my browser and I'm trying to order a Dell Inspiron 1420N. However, it seems that the embedded flash script that shows the different colors choices for the Inspiron is not working under Linux. It also shows that I can't see the different images thereafter. It works with Windows running Firefox as my vmware machine verified. But that is not the type of user that will most likely purchase a Linux laptop.

My request is simple. Can someone fix and verify that this page works well with Linux browser technology? So, that users can enjoy purchasing your Linux products and demonstrate that Dell really cares about their customer's operating system preference.

Dell I wish you the best in this venture as your success in this territory will help the Linux Desktop become a reality to the open source community.

Make A Wireless Dell

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by reg 08/07/07 **COMING SOON**

Apple has a real, valid point: Too many cables in a typical PC setup.

I think Dell could make a combo cable, or a unified display (display/camera/stereo speakers).

Dell should work on a nice clean design - like Apple's clean design - less cable rat nests, more computing power. 220 Comments »

Nvidia 8700M GT for XPS1710

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by impulse 07/25/07

I think the XPS1710 should have a Directx10 card option. The recently released Nvidia 8700M GT is the most powerful Directx10 notebook card as of now. Why not add it as an option? 13 Comments »

eSATA Notebook Support

New Product Ideas, Servers and Storage, Laptops submitted by rdahbura 06/09/07

I'd like to see eSATA support on Dell notebooks and/or port replicators. It would be the ideal solution for fast, large external storage support over the current USB 2.0 option.

Here are the transfer rate specs:

eSATA - 3 GB/sec
USB 2.0 - 480 MB/sec
FireWire 400 - 400 MB/sec

I'm not sure why some have voted down this idea. It's a simple addition. Notebooks already support SATA.

If you vote down the idea, please post a comment explaining why. 18 Comments »

E-SATA and HDMI ports on XPS M1730

XPS products, Laptops submitted by skolbits 08/16/07

Dell should really consider adding E-SATA and HDMI ports on the upcoming XPS M1730 and in the near future on all high end Laptops. That's going to be essential.
Users like to back up their music, movies and data on an extra hard drive, with e-sata port you can transfer everything much faster than USB 2.0.
HDMI is also another great extra feature that really revolutionizes audio and video quality and most enthusiastic users will love to play with it.
Well I hope Dell reads my post and consider these ideas which are for the best of all. 2 Comments »

"I detest the 'leaked' design of XPS M1730 and will wait for it to be redesigned."

XPS products submitted by lorax1284 08/17/07

If you DO NOT LIKE the design of the XPS 1730, and are willing to give Dell the time to 'fix it', you should PROMOTE this thread, as a vote AGAINST the design, but willingness to WAIT for it to be improved.

If you LIKE the design do NOT vote.

If you are UNWILLING TO WAIT for the design to be reworked (you will buy another notebook instead of either this design or waiting for a revision) DEMOTE the post. 13 Comments »

M1730 should look more like the M1330

XPS products submitted by saleemohaib 08/16/07

I saw the pics of the upcoming Dell XPS M1730 laptop. I was really disappointed. I was not expecting something so ugly from Dell. By the way you can view the pics on this link:
Not for the faint-hearted people. Get ready before you go to this link and for those who have seen it before no need to see them again ;)

http://www.laptoplogic.com/news/detail.php?id=2859 I

I also saw the M1330 and it look really nice. I think it might save Dell a lot of time and effort if they just made a 17' version of M1330 and call it M1730. Because I want a Santa Rosa XPS 17' laptop soon :)

I think including a 2 Megapixel camera on the M1730 would also be nice and color choice would be appreciated as available for M1330.

Looking forward to your coments.

By the way 'Dell' really appreciate the IdeaStrom. 27 Comments »

Please don't make the new XPS M1730 look like this!

This is possibly the ugliest laptop I've ever seen!

I'm praying this is fake.

Take cues from the 1330, please! 57 Comments »

M1330 style in more sizes and colors

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by kyliemanders 08/06/07

Nearly everyone appreciates the styling of the XPS M1330.

Why not make this look available across the board. Offer it up in 11", 15.4", 17" and 20" versions. Come up with additional colors.

Don't ruin the M1730 and put it in a tacky package like this: [image removed - not public information] 37 Comments »

Midnight Blue XPS M1330 and (hopefully) redesigned XPS m1730

XPS products submitted by tknisley 08/06/07

It is understood that the painting process is painstakingly difficult for the XPS m1330 and that the Pearl White paint scheme was recently discontinued. There are several posts out there that call for a blue m1330. Why not continue with using the Midnight Blue paint scheme currently used on the Inspirion laptop line upon the XPS m1330. I could only imagine what the delay for such a product would be.

As far as the rumored design for the XPS m1730, it is disgustingly ugly. Perhaps the carbon fiber could be replaced by tuxedo black and could be outlined in chrome with Midnight Blue or Red on the sides with the XPS logo retaining its position.

Dell, you NEED to be original. I fondly remember seeing carbon fiber on other laptops from other suppliers-they are simply non attractive. You want your products to attract attention in a positive way, and using carbon fiber is hideous and will attract that unwanted attention resulting in a further loss of customers! 1 Comment »

Put A DELL Direct store right next to all the APPLE stores!

Dell, Sales Strategies submitted by reg 06/27/07

Apple spent millions finding Retail Locations that generate large volume traffic and sell lots and lots of Mac stuff..

So, save money - where ever an Apple Retail store is located, put a DELL Direct store right beside it.

Have Apple trade in days so people can trade in their old G3 / G4 / G5 macs and get a real Intel machine that runs all versions of Linux and Windows, without any problems.

Where Ever Apple goes - be there to take their customers with low prices and better service. 10 Comments »

12 cell battery for 17-inch XPS

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by urackon 07/13/07

Try to fit in a 12 cell battery into the 17-inch notebook of the XPS line. The XPS's use some pretty power hungry parts (especially the graphics card, actually mainly the graphics card) yet their 9 cell battery is the same one you can find on much smaller lower end notebooks. The old 12 inch xps even had one I think(although it was fat). I know you have to take into consideration the thickness but their 17inch gaming notebooks. 2 Comments »

Post links to professional reviews of Dell products

Dell Web Site submitted by jervis961 07/21/07

Dell allows users to add a review to a product on the Dell.com site. Why not post links to professional reviews as well?

PC magazine, CNET and other sites has professional reviews that Dell could link to. Good or bad Dell should provide a link so the customer is better informed on its products. 12 Comments »

Alienware integration

Dell Web Site submitted by melvintomas 07/10/07

Since Alienware is already a part of Dell, why can't we link to it from the Dell Website? We should be proud of acquiring such a company. 3 Comments »
