Vista S L O W S D O W N PCs, Get XP installed if anything. Operating Systems submitted by reg 03/05/07
Well Dell Dudes, Keep XP, make OS and App pre-install optional Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by agent24 05/03/07
First of all I would like to say that I am definitely not switching to Vista any time soon, and will be using XP for as long as I can. Quite a lot of people feel the same and I think it would be (and is good) that you are offering XP again on your PCs Offer A Free Downgrade From Vista To XP Operating Systems submitted by huper 04/24/07
I for one have had it with Windows Vista. I find this software so full of bugs that I am spending more time transferring log files to Microsoft than getting actual work done. They are certainly not paying me for my time to repair their flaky software! When I got my Dimension E520 it came loaded with a 2.8Ghz Duo Dual Core Intel Processor, 2GB of RAM, 256MB on an NVIDIA card & 2 - 250GB hard drives. Surely this system would be powerful & I could focus on writing & getting work done quickly. But no, the slow speed of this operating system taxes the hard drives & CPU so they are regularly running at 75% & 89%. I have tried changing the swap file to use a different drive, removed non essential services as well as swapping out memory from one slot to another. I have used every OS both client & server since DOS 1.0 & this is by far the worst! (Except maybe BOB or ME). Dell wants to give users an upgrade to Windows Vista within a certain time frame. How about offering a downgrade to XP for people who don't want Vista? Otherwise I will be checking into which Linux version will best run on this hardware. Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by xcasto 03/14/07
As long as M$ continues to support XP it should remain an option for system builds. Dell has done a good job of telling people when the system they've configured, in the order process, doesn't work for compatibility reasons and currently XP can run on most (if not all) Vista configurations. I called Dell yesterday to extend my warranty and informed them I was removing VISTA from the laptop I have had for a couple weeks. But now, I have to purchase XP on my own! Operating Systems, XPS products submitted by ahtistudios 04/23/07 I read on the Ideastorm homepage today about Dell finally agreeing to package Windows XP with more of their systems, in response to the posts here requesting such an action. As an audio professional and computer enthusiast very familiar with Microsoft's continued pattern of releasing operating systems before the bugs are worked out, I'm happy to see this. I'm actually in the market for a new desktop right now, and can't use Vista, as many of my hardware pieces and software programs don't work with it. I'd like to buy an XPS410, but after having spoken with two Dell sales reps at different times (one before Dell's announcement to have increased XP support, and one today), I've found that the only XPS system to come with XP is the 710. I don't need the advanced cooling system or graphic cards of the 710. I just need a Dual Core desktop, priced competitively, running at an optimal speed (the 410 is the only one that fits my needs, without adding extra stuff I don't need). If Dell can add XP to their Dimensions, why not the XPS series in full? 1 Comment » Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by rjrich 04/19/07 Win XP Pro should be provided as an alternative to Win Vista on all laptop models (XPS and Inspiron as Lattitude and Precision). 1 Comment » Operating Systems, Desktops and Laptops submitted by mr_road 02/20/07
I noticed recently when looking for a new PC with XP Pro on, I couldn't find XP Pro on any of the machines I was intrested in. Why does Dell recommend Vista? It is not a tried and tested system, why is it my only option on many many machines. An endorsement for Ubuntu over Microsoft Dell, Linux submitted by phubert 05/10/07
For those who have advocated Ubuntu on Dell systems, here's a VERY PRACTICAL endorsement Software, Small Business submitted by jmxz 05/10/07
Many of your customers are satisfied with the software infrastructure they have, and don't want forced changes to their infrastructure. Some of those are even running older versions like 2000 or NT. "Windows NT 3.51 Workstation and Server U.S. Service Pack 5If even Microsoft realizes it's important to continue helping customers with infrastructure dependent on these older OS's; Dell should realize this too and could help its customers by continuing to ship the OS's upon which many company's operations still depend. Dell's an important enough customer to Microsoft, if Dell asks for it Microsoft should sell it to them. If Microsoft says you don't need it and to sell Vista instead, point out to them that they're still helping customers with that infrastructure - and it's only fair that you can too. If your business still has Win2000 or WinNT systems, vote this up to avoid forced upgrades. Bring back Win2000, NT, and ME (just kidding on that one) so I never need to learn what software's incompatible with Vista. 4 Comments » track my votes
