Dell XPS Club

Dell Community, XPS products submitted by av1945 11/06/07

Why not have an XPS Club for XPS owners where they can enter compitions to win Dell stuff, answer questionaires, product updates, wallpapers and more. Sony has a 'Club Vaio', why not a 'Club XPS' 3 Comments »

Laptops need to be more Upgradeable

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by dwood 10/26/07

Ive always had this idea about laptops being customizable.

Let's say Joe is going into college and only want to buy a 15.4" Inspiron notebook.

Lets say it works, does its job for two years, and for any reason whatsoever the screen on the laptop breaks (being unrepairable). Joe doesn't have $500 to buy a new one and a desktop wont work out for his classes hes taking. He then has to either 1) Beg for money from family members, 2) Skip school and work until he earns enough money enough for the new laptop that fits his needs, falling far, far behind in school, practically ruining that term's gpa .

What if Joe needed a larger screen than before? Or smaller, to save batteries?
This is only one instance when being able to easily replace your laptop screen would have been a better choice.

More graphics cards in laptops should be removable for replacing with ones that also fit the "line" of the notebook, in case a person wanted to play better quality games or movies, without replacing the whole entire laptop.

What if Joe needs a better Cd drive, and doesnt want an external one?

More things in all laptops everywhere need to be replaceable. I dont want to replace my laptop just because the screen broke. I don't go around looking for new computers that have monitors every time mine breaks, I buy a new one. Why cant we just do that with a laptop?

Thank you for reading

Include cleaning and screen protection cloth with laptops

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jkeating 11/02/07

A nice dell branded cleaning cloth should be included with new laptops. This cloth would be used to clean the laptop sceens as well as lay on top of the keyboard when the laptop is closed to protect the screen from keyboard imprints. If a cloth is included it is far more likely that this cloth would be used to clean rather than some other cleaning device which may damage a user's screen. 10 Comments »

Make all Notebook power adapters the same

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by monseycomputers 11/01/07

Make all adapters the same, even if it’s a 65w or 90w but at least I should have the option to buy a 90w and power on every Dell laptop. Comment »

Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM

Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself.
On XPS Notebooks... you are charging $500 for 4GB of ram... when you could easily go pick them up at your local computer shop for $250... and pocket the other half of the $500...

It would be nice if dell could save the customers as well as the company itself this hassle.. and start charging NORMAL prices for an upgrade in RAM.

thanks =D

PS..... PROMOTE THIS!!!!

HDMI, HDMI, by God almighty, HDMI

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 09/25/07

HP has had it on their notebooks for 1 year now. Come on Dell! What's it going to take to put in an HDMI port? Most of the new LCD TV's today input HDMI.

And I'm surprised that the new XPS 1730 has no HDMI port. DVI is so yesterday and is not forward thinking at all.

Your next generation Montevina based models MUST have HDMI.

And yes, this is a dupe. A dupe of my own post even. But I want to buy a Dell. But without HDMI, it makes it difficult. 32 Comments »

Bluetooth based identification/proximity sensor

Broadband and Mobility submitted by delluser 09/26/07

There are many requests for bluetooth built in laptops and home systems, here.
I also suggest integrating some sort of proximity sensing software.
Bluetooth terminals (mobile phones, PDAs, ...) could store user preferences and transmit it to the PC and/or run remote control applications.
http://www.salling.com/ has some success with its bluetooth remote control application.
http://plutohome.com/ say they have a proximity sensing system that works for home automation/multimedia. Comment »

Reduce the amount of packaging

Environment submitted by mabeaver 09/11/07

Having recently been involved with rolling out a large number of Dell Optiplex systems.

I found it amazing how many boxes, plastic bags, cable ties & polystyrene had to be removed and disposed of. This ended up taking much more time than installing and configuring the systems.

I understand that Dell need to protect their products during shipping but there must be away of making the unpackaging process easier for corporate customers as well as reducing the environmental impact. 8 Comments »

Change the sub title of this website...

it says:

"Dellideastorm: where your ideas reign"

While the terms of service say that by submitting an idea it becomes Dell's idea. Funny that.... 8 Comments »

When Dell specify a shipping date for a product and when (if?) it doesn't arrive on time the computer or other product should be free. 27 Comments »

Dells pricing needs to be more competative

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 09/06/07

My son is begging for a laptop, his current Dell Desktop is on its last legs anyway so I decided to look around. I can find a notebook for as low as $319.96 on sale at box stores and from $450 online from manufacturers. The cheapest Dell I can find starts at $549 and has worse specs than what I found elsewhere. I looked at desktops as well and the story is the same. I even checked the Dell outlet and they don't really even discount items that much there.

I'm trying to support Dell but they aren't really helping me help them. They need to be more competative with their pricing. 26 Comments »

Make all parts optional

Sales Strategies submitted by yank 05/20/07

Plenty of people spend a LOT of time shopping around on Dell's site for a great deal. They trust the brand and haven't the time or interest to build there own PC so when they see a good deal they try and buy that new Dell PC with as few options as they can manage.
Let them!
Allow them to remove:
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
Hard Drive
Video Card
Etc.
Keep just the minimum basics and allow them to pick and choose what they want! 12 Comments »

Carbon Fiber, Magnesium Alloy, Titanium and other 'Exotic' materials

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by thorin_2 02/21/07

After literally MONTHS of research I finally settled on an IBM Thinkpad notepbook, not in small part due to the "coolness" or hip factor of having a laptop that partially consisted of carbon fiber casing (to reduce weight), a magnesium alloy "roll cage" (along with the accelerometer) to protect my data in case of a fall/drop, and even the optional titanium cover. These sorts of things set IBM apart from the crowd and eventually won me over.

Now if only I could only get IBM's ThinkVantage design, Apple's MagSafe, a 15" LED LCD display, all for Dell's low price point... 1 Comment »

Price Protection

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by ppaskova 07/30/07

Dell should implement price protection of any item bought from Dell for 30 days since purchase date. Dell has 30 days return policy with full refund to customer. Dell always has sales on different items on their Website. If person bought the item and in the next 30 days found this item for a cheaper price on Dell website he / she can always return previously bought item for full refund and buy it again from Dell for discounted price. In this case Dell will lose money on picking it from customer, reselling it and shipping new item to customer. Instead customer should have ability to notify Dell about this situation and receive difference in price as a credit. This should apply to desktops and notebooks with similar configuration as well. 2 Comments »

Price protection

Sales Strategies submitted by liquidfire 02/23/07

Offer price protection on your products at least 30 days. Dell can argue that computer systems change so fast that the product is never the same but for items like monitors and printers...come on... I was told to return the product, pay a restocking fee, buy the new product and save less than the restocking fee. This just doens't make sense. Comment »

"I detest the 'leaked' design of XPS M1730 and will wait for it to be redesigned."

XPS products submitted by lorax1284 08/17/07

If you DO NOT LIKE the design of the XPS 1730, and are willing to give Dell the time to 'fix it', you should PROMOTE this thread, as a vote AGAINST the design, but willingness to WAIT for it to be improved.

If you LIKE the design do NOT vote.

If you are UNWILLING TO WAIT for the design to be reworked (you will buy another notebook instead of either this design or waiting for a revision) DEMOTE the post. 13 Comments »
