Precision M6300 with 3600M and *Blu-ray*

Precision Workstations submitted by zanlok Mar 8 **IMPLEMENTED**

Now that the M6300 offers an upgrade to the fantastic new Quadro FX 3600M graphics card, I'd really *really* like to see a preconfigured high-end system that offers that and Blu-ray. Currently, this is not supported.

This would be analagous to the XPS M1730 WOW Edition for us Engineer types.

(Until/if Dell ever releases a long-awaited M9300?!)

Use magsafe power connectors

Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by badblood 05/20/07 **UNDER REVIEW**

MagSafe power connectors, by Apple, are magnetic power connectors that pull out harmlessly when the cord is tripped upon.

They are very cool and quite sensible.

better video card for the rumored XPS M1530

Gaming, XPS products submitted by nicolas.velasquez 10/10/07

I've seen the rumored specs of the new XPS M1530 coming on November 7. This laptop is aimed partially/mostly people that works with 3d, video or gamers. If the specs are as follows:
# 15.40-inch display (CCFL up to 1680 x 1050, LED up to 1440 x 900)
# Core 2 Duo options from 1.5GHz (T5250) up to 2.6GHz (T7800)
# Crestline GM/PM 965 chipset with up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
# GeForce 8400M or 8600M GS options (up to 256MB)
# Slot-loading Blu-ray / 8x DVD±RW
# Options for 802.11a/b/g/n, WWAN, Bluetooth
# HDMI, VGA, 1394, ExpressCard, (3) USB 2.0, Ethernet, fingerprint reader, media reader
# 2.0 megapixel (with CCFL) or 300k (with LED) cameras
# Weight supposedly 4 pounds to start

I think that, even optional, the video card MUST be a:
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3
If not, it will be just an Inspiron 1520 with HDMI and fingerprint reader in a different case. 5 Comments »

Fully "Certified for Windows Vista" x64 Workstation

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Precision Workstations submitted by dwayne 03/14/07

Dell Precision 390, 490, 690 systems are offered with x64 Vista. The boxes by themselves are x64 Vista certified by Microsoft; however, the options provided destroy the certification. (As determined by Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility Website http://whql.microsoft.com/hcl)

The only graphics card choice is the Quadro which is NOT "Certified for Windows Vista". The FireGL cards shown on the product information page are not even an option.

The only sound card (and there is no offering for the 490) is also NOT "Certified for Windows Vista".

May I also add that choosing your 27" monitor (which is "Certified for Windows Vista" and very cool) indicates that the monitor is not compatible with Vista. This is not true since it is a graphics card compatibility issue and not a problem with your monitor (which is certified).

I have wanted to purchase a Dell x64 Vista system for some time, but your choice of two cards (graphics and sound) destroys the robustness and certification of the system.

The Precision 490 should have an option of a sound card or an explanation of why it is not offered. 3 Comments »

More Video Card Choices for Precision Line

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Precision Workstations submitted by sinjin 04/23/07

Offer nVidia 8800 cards along with the Quadro options. For many CAD users a Quadro is not needed and an 8800 would give the need the performance needed at a much lower cost. An overclocked version should be offered like XI Computer does for their workstations. 1 Comment »

Dell Mobile Workstations Need Numeric Keypads M90/M6300

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Precision Workstations submitted by pauln 08/28/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Dell needs a numeric Keypad on "Mobile Workstations" M90, M6300 types. HP has had a numeric keypad for a While on their mobile workstations. If these are oriented towards CAD applications, then give engineers (who deal with numbers daily) what we need, a numeric keypad and utilize some of the wide open space on this 17" notebook.
It wouldn’t cost much more and for the price they should give us what we need. It’s not like they have to invent one for notebooks, they are already being made!
Also allow us to turn off the touch pad so it doesnt get bumped when using the keyboard, we use a mouse and 3D motion controllers to navigate our applications!

Make A Wireless Dell

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops, Monitors and Displays submitted by reg 08/07/07 **COMING SOON**

Apple has a real, valid point: Too many cables in a typical PC setup.

I think Dell could make a combo cable, or a unified display (display/camera/stereo speakers).

Dell should work on a nice clean design - like Apple's clean design - less cable rat nests, more computing power. 220 Comments »

Precision version of XPS M1330

XPS products, Precision Workstations submitted by sopwith 08/02/07

There is a need for an 'ultra portable' ISV certified notebook - the M4300 is still just a little on the large side.

If you could offer the XPS M1330 with nVidia Quadro FX 570M (256MB dedicated ideal) then you would have a great solution, especially with the LED backlit screen.
(Note: the Quadro FX 360M is not strong enough with its 64bit memory interface.)

Get the SSD up to a 64GB option and I would consider that as well. Comment »

Smaller Power Bricks

Laptops submitted by drew08867 06/28/07

I know they've gotten smaller with the new line of inspirons, but lenovo's are still something to be rivaled. What is the point of having a thin/light laptop and a heavy power brick you have to carry around with it? 4 Comments »

Allow customers to come to Dell.com and Order just "Plant a Tree"

Dell Web Site, Environment, New Product Ideas submitted by clocks 06/27/07 **ALREADY OFFERED**

Allow users to work with dell to imrpove Dell's "green" image. Make an "Accessories" product to allow people to just order "plant a tree" or to order as many "Plant a tree"s as they want. This option was not presented when I bought a desktop just a few days ago and I personally would go back right now and order "Plant a tree" because I would like to.

I think that if nothing else, the few minutes it would take Dell to setup this option would give you guys something to point to, even if it wasnt an option that a lot of people had taken advantage of.

if you wanted to take the concept a step forward, build a few add banners/buttons etc to make freely availible with the code to insert one on your web page. The button would be something along the lines of "Join Dell in planting trees". Your logo is associated with an environmental practice, blue logo on green with various tree abstracts in the image, etc. Reputation boost, plus you have genuinely provided a capability to your user base and various concerns on the internet to actively take part in helping Dell be green.

Sure, maybe you are using a few hours of the time of your salaried workers who you already pay for to add the item to the site and create some logos but if you really care about improving your reputation in this area, it might be an investment well worth it. 14 Comments »

Dell should transition all monitors to LED back lighting. More cost effective (in terms of energy use), greener, longer life. 11 Comments »
