Mike Dell for USA President!

Dell submitted by reg 05/29/07

Well, you see how being Vice President has helped Haliburton gain contracts,
if Mike Dell was President of the USA he could require all State, Federal schools to buy
only Dell computers - or end their government funded support.

Mike Dell For President of USA -
or do you want Hillary Clinton to win?

It's not like he could do a worse job - quite the opposite,
Mike Dell is sophisticated and educated,
a true real leader for the USA.

I PROMOTE THE MIKE DELL 4 PRESIDENT - WRITE IN CAMPAIGN !

When it comes time to vote for USA president, write in: MICHAEL DELL .

You got my vote, Mike!

Don't sell at WalMart

Sales Strategies submitted by siege24 05/27/07

Instead of selling at WalMart, Dell should go with someone a little more upscale. Target currently doesn't sell computers at all. Why not drop the whole WalMart idea and approach Target about exclusively selling Dells. It could be a win-win situation. 3 Comments »

XPS M2010 - Enhancements

XPS products submitted by pem 05/28/07

1) AMD Processor option (64-bit dual-core)
2) Monitor improvements (higher res and quality)
3) Linux / Ubuntu option (save money)
4) does the keyboard touchpad support horizontal/vertical scrolling?
5) why does the keyboard go to sleep; the battery on logitech's high end keyboard lasts for over a month in a single charge
6) if this is all notebook parts, why does it consume so much battery? the screen I guess? would a faster desktop cpu kill the battery? (the battery life isn't that important; you just need to be able to take it from outlet to outlet)
7) with no fan noise, does it ever overheat? with stress testing?
8) can I play Wii on the screen? Last TV tuner I tried in a media center with a game console had a display lag so it wasn't playable

Just some ideas! I'm really interested in it b/c I want to travel more (work from hotels etc) with something better than a laptop. Guess it won't even fit on a plane either unless I have 1st class or 2 seats to myself... Comment »

Idea v1.1: Install software in Windows, run them in Ubuntu Linux through an interpreter!

Linux, Operating Systems, Desktops and Laptops submitted by nordviks 05/28/07

Why not pre-install all PC/laptops with both Windows and Linux with shared documents/storage, and the ability to run software installed in windows to run under Linux through an interpreter (driver/script/software).

What I mean is: When you buy a PC from Dell, you will have the option to boot either Windows ore Linux. You will also have the ability to work with Photo Shop, Access 2000, 3D Studio Max ore any other software/driver you install in windows, directly from Linux after next reboot into Ubuntu. You will also have access to all you're files which have been made in Windows, through "My Documents" ore an other folder/partition.

This would give MS some needed competition, which could mean lover prices and better software. MS has an unfair advantage over Linux through the amount of software that is supported under Windows.

This would make Dell the number one choice for Linux users as well as it is for Windows users. And they would gain favor by the whole Open Source community, and giving us MS users the chance to try out Ubuntu Linux.

Dell should definitely commit them self, to let their customers have freedom of choice, and to make it easy for Windows users like myself, to make an effortless change to Linux if I would like to! 8 Comments »

No TPM Chips at all \trusted computing

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by sonicsteve 05/20/07

The idea is simple, trusted computing is an initiative started Microsoft, HP,IBM, Sun and others that has too much potential for abuse by these powerful companies. While a user control over ride would be OK I believe that having NO TPM chip (on any device, sound board, video, drives etc...) would be better still.

It is more than possible that a computer that has the user over ride engaged to enable it to run software that is "not trusted" could be blocked from important web sites or from engaging in other critical activities. In this scenario it would be virtually useless to run software that is not trusted.

Pre-Install Bonzi Buddy on all new systems!

Software, Desktops and Laptops submitted by captainsensible 04/25/07

It's not about what the user wants, it's about profit! If you don't upgrade Bonzi within 30 days he gets really sad and begs you hourly for money. And each feature costs an additional fee, and if you don't get it, Bonzi starts to get angry and delete your emails and randomly disconnects you from the internet! But the profits would be amazing.

Dell work with Intel: Create a CPU with 128 MB Level 2 cache.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by reg 04/25/07

<font>
Dell should work with Intel to make a 45nm process CPU with a huge 128 MB level 2 cache.

Now the speed advantage goes to CLEAN, TIGHT CODE.

128 MB is enough space to keep the whole Puppy Linux OS + Apps running IN THE CPU 100%!

The CPU could be 3 GHz or 4 GHz - and all the program and data would be running at the
very high speed Cache 2 speed. The RAM sticks almost operate as secondary storage.

Welcome to India

Dell submitted by nimitsoni 04/26/07

Come into a huge emerging market for computer market like India is realy a great opportunity for a giant like Dell. But one thing which the company should keep in mind is about the rural market of India and the supply chain need to be established in this market segment. The company can hire local trader in the field. These local traders are generaly dealing in computer assembly. In this rural market the awairness of Branded computers is still low. People preffer in assembled computers. If the company want to cater these customer than need to make more promotion and creat awairness about branded product of this catagory. 2 Comments »

Monitor RCA Cords

Monitors and Displays submitted by jk31213 04/25/07

Exactly as the title says. Instead of DVI Cables, I think monitors nowadays should connect to desktops with these. It could possibly be sharper sound and image quality. When time goes on, possibly to HD style! 5 Comments »

PS2 Support

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops submitted by cornettt 04/25/07

I know I am not the only one to run into this problem. Dell needs to make PS2 support standard on all desktop computers. Every new computer we have ordered comes with only USB ports and no PS2 ports.

Since most wireless keyboard/mouse sets, Microsoft's & Logitech's included, come with the keyboard connector in PS2 only they don't work without trying to find an adapter online. Until wireless keyboard/mouse makers do away with PS2 connectors Dell should keep the ports as standard on their computers. 28 Comments »

Now You Choose - Concept 2

Gaming, XPS products submitted by dell_admin1 04/25/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Participate in the product design process! Dell is using IdeaStorm to decide between two new product design concepts. Vote on your favorite and weigh in to tell us what you think.

When we unveiled the XPS 710 H2C at CES this year, we also uncovered it. There were a limited number of systems sprinkled throughout the show floor that had a clear side panel allowing easy viewing of the patent-pending two-stage H2C liquid cooling system.

Since then, more than a few people have suggested we offer a “panel with a view” as an option for our XPS 710 line. Now we need you to vote for one of these two options and, most importantly, share some reasons why you like it.

This “Now You Decide” vote campaign will be open from Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most votes will be featured in a future generation of XPS gaming desktops.

Check out the latest Idea in Action on the new XPS 730.

Put the computer in a different room from the monitor/keyboard.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by jmxz 04/25/07

If there are any cables that'll carry video across a house (and no doubt there are - cable TV is a proof by existence) I'd rather just ran that cable from the garage where I'd have an (ideally rack mountable) computer & dsl modem, etc.

It'd be even better if it didn't need a cable - I'm not sure if any of the powerline networking solutions would do it - the HomePlug alliance has decent industry support (Intel, LG, GE, Linksys, Sharp, etc) - and HomePlug AV talks about sending video through powerlines. http://www.homeplug.org/home< advantages would be:
* I stop caring how loud the fans & disk drives & graphics card are.
* I stop caring how the machine heats up the room.
* I don't need massive power strips for all the plugs.
* I get the space back in this room.

Note that this is different from a thin client - because thin clients are subject to the poor video performance of whatever card they put in the thin client. I still want the massive loud video card - just move it to the garage and stream the video to the monitor on my desk. 4 Comments »

Take quick advantage of CPU price drops

Sales Strategies submitted by officeglen 04/24/07

This weekend Intel dropped the price on CPUs, including a 38% drop on the Q6600. At the time of writing this, when trying to purchase a XPS 710 Black, an upgrade to the Q6600 is still $800 US - to quote the web site, an upgrade from E6300 to Q6600 is " Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) [add $800".

My suggestion is to quickly react to CPU price changes - update the web site ASAP, and send out an email to potential customers "great news, and we pass on the savings to you!" - so now less people want to buy in stores, since they could be losing out of $100s in savings.

I've purchased many Dells over the years, both for work and for home, and I would love it if the company could rebound a bit. 15 Comments »

64 Bit Windows Edition With 32 Bit Virtualization

Operating Systems submitted by stargatefan 04/23/07

It's time to upgrade all systems up to 64 bit machines. It is the future and we need to embrace it. I think Dell is in a posistion to start offering systems that are fully 64 bit. The problem with doing so is compatability issues with 32 bit applications. Windows Vista tries to fix that but it isn't all there yet, hopefully they will better it along with everything else with SP1. But even with Windows XP which Dell is still offering (Way to go, Windows Vista isn't quiet ready yet, soon but not yet, so great move), we can offer 64 bit editions.

To solve the compatability issues is simple have the systems ship with a virtualization software package allowing the system to automatically run a 32 bit application inside a 32 bit virtual enviroment built ontop of a 64 bit machine and 64 bit edition of Windows.

The world is ready for 64 bit the problem is with the software developement having developers write software for 64 bit systems is complex, just as writting for multy core systems but we need to start doing it. i think this is a temporary fix to the problem. The trick is the virtualization program has to intiate and run without any difficulty or lagging the trick is not to let the user know that the application they just clicked on is running in a virtual sandbox machine. This can prove to be difficult but I think it can be done and I believe it is a necessary step. 8 Comments »

Laptop display

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by feeneyl 04/23/07

The display on the laptops that are currently sold by Dell (and its competitors) pose a problem for individuals with a certain type of vision problem. They are highly reflective making the screen contents extremely difficult to view. The surface is mirror-like. I don't want to see my reflection. I want to be able to view the screen. Please bring back a matte option on laptop displays. 8 Comments »
