Products with an estimated ship date should be shipped by that date. Or at least shipped by the revised shipped date. Not having a product shipped to you when it was estimated to be shipped leaves a bad taste in customers mouths. Don't charge for changing laptop color Laptops submitted by shrndegruv Apr 25
Nothing says Display Packaging Needs LESS Foam Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies submitted by lyonadmiral May 12 As an IT professional who sets up 50+ machines in a sitting, there is nothing more frustrating than unpacking a new LCD panel. Having experience with both new and refurbished panels I can tell you that the refurbished panel is packed much better than the new panel. New panels have to be unboxed like an union, 3 layers of styrofoam in order to completely break down and recycle the box. The refurbished display comes with two lightweight pieces of foam that secure the LCD and the stand in the box. Even with those two pieces the poduct is secured enough quite well to sustain the trip to my rural location. The new LCD packaging, wastes too much time, plus it uses too much material. Start using less. 4 Comments » Implemented: Ubuntu Dell is Le$$ Than Windows Dell Linux submitted by thebittersea 05/05/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
see comment from Erik down below... [Dell's Pricing Team] Provide Linux Drivers for all your Hardware Linux submitted by gergnz 02/19/07 **IN PROGRESS**
I don't care whether the OS is pre-installed or not, I want all the hardware to be totally supported in the Linux kernel without in mucking around. I currently have a Dell M1210 and I wish the modem would work, just in case I need it. The web cam would work, just in case I need it. At least the Intel wireless card is totally supported. Thanks Intel!! Make XP/Linux drivers available for all model even if only Vista is pre-installed Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Linux, Operating Systems submitted by vineets001 09/24/07 **REVIEWED**
There are good hardware models coming out. And only Vista is pre-install option. If people want to wipe off Vista and install XP or Linux, let them do that. Make a commitment to have the drivers available. Easier switching between home & business sections in dell website Dell Web Site submitted by svr May 14
Im sure there is a valid business reason for complete segregation between the 2 segments, but it would easen things a bit for someone trying to gather information on available options if one could switch between the sections in one click. Shipping Options - Local Pick Up Sales Strategies submitted by pablohs May 13
I have seen several ideas and comments about how long it takes for items to get shipped, and I agree sometimes 20 days is just too long to wait for a new PC / laptop, specially if the date keeps changing. Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Add USB port 5V supply to Laptop Powersupply units Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by michael.schwarz May 14
Today a travelling laptop user has often additional mobile devices which are charged by the USB port like Music players, mobile phones, PDA's etc. To charge these the Laptop unfortunate must be switched on. If the Transformator/ power supply for Laptops would have an USB power supply connector, - devices could be charged indendent from running the Laptop. (e.g. at nigth in Hotel) Sell AC adapters at retail stores Advertising and Marketing, Laptop Power submitted by undead999 May 7
Since Dell is selling computers at retail outlets offer ac adapters for laptops at best buy, staples and anywhere you sell laptops. Also offer ac adapters at your kiosks. Dell: join in! Offer a low-cost Linux PC! Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by phubert Apr 2
It appears Dell remains afraid of Microsoft... and here is an answer we haven't heard from Dell on IdeaStorm: Do not scale back build-to-order systems Desktops and Laptops submitted by masterr Apr 5 **ALREADY OFFERED**
Today in the news I read that Dell "is moving away from its build-to-order model to reduce costs. Dell is limiting the degree to which buyers can dictate specifications while expanding its line of prepackaged models". Please do not do this. The options build-to-order system is what sets Dell above some of the competition. By scaling this back and removing customization choices you remove some of the appeal of buying a Dell machine online. Please do not scale this back. Add higher screen resolution to all home & home office laptops Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by ccpljat Apr 25 I have been using a used [another brand's] business laptop that has a high screen resolution. The cheaper Inspiron laptops can only go up to 1280x800. I cannot be productive on a screen that small any more. At least bump it up to 1440x900 or equivalent. I have basically been forced to shop in the Small Business section to find an affordable computer with a higher screen resolution. 6 Comments » Let Home customers know it's OK to buy from the Business section and vice versa. Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies, Small Business submitted by jmxz May 7
From a conversation with Dell's robert_p, under a different Idea it seems that "Home" customers are welcome to buy from Dell's "Small & Medium Business" section, and Dell's "small and/or medium business" customers are welcome to buy from Dell's "Home & Home Office" section. Cut the cost of a 9-cell battery upgrade Sales Strategies, Laptop Power submitted by ccpljat May 6
Yes a 9-cell is more powerful and lasts longer, but $169? Come on. It can't be that much. Cut down the price to honestly reflect the difference. I mean good grief, you can buy a 9-cell replacement for an Inspiron 1720 for $154! An upgrade is always supposed to be less. Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. Put Ubuntu on the list of operating systems when building a PC! Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by samb0057 08/10/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. Allow anyone to get any product in any channel (home, business, etc.) on the Dell site. Sometimes Dell posts some products only in certain channels; for example home offices cannot get Vostros. track my votes
