Compact Flash Slots needed in a ultra portable or small laptop ...

I'd very much like to see a least one model of small Laptop have a high speed compact flash slot.
Many digital cameras are still produced with Compact Flash slots, particulalry Disgital SLR's. For me, I would really like not to have to rely on adapters and such sticking out of the Laptop.

DELL Petition the USA Government to Seize Windows XP Pro under Eminent Domain - and provide it as a free download

Eminent Domain - the right of a government or its agent to expropriate private property for public use, with payment of compensation.

All abandoned software - Like Windows 95, Windows 98, and Soon Windows XP - should default back to the government and be reverted as a public property.

Since the manufacturer has refused to accept the responsibility of maintaining it's own creation - then under Eminent Domain, previous unsupported copies of windows become public property, for the good and benefit of all of society.

Eminent Domain is used to take land, buildings, streets, farms, etc. - in order to build bridges, roads, pipelines, and train tracks. The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision rendered the Government as the Supreme Power over all of property,
and in fact can take your private home from you, in fact whole city blocks of private homes, and give them over to Walmart to build a super shopping center. Because Walmart will do more business than a collection of private homes, so Walmart has more right to take what you have, than your right to keep your own home.

The same rules apply to software - ok microsoft, millions of people depend on your old programs, but you cut them off from support, expecting them to spend billions of dollars on upgrades, just so they can continue doing what they are already doing.

Fine, under Eminent Domain, the government takes the old copies of windows, and gives them freely to all the USA citizens.
Set up some server to provide free download Install CDs.

It is time the Government stop being pushed around by one little corporation, and if Microsoft gives them trouble,
then the Federal Government can take the Microsoft Headquarters, and use it for the next illegal immigrant tracking and processing center. 49 Comments »

Improved (and actually functional) anit-virus packages

Instead of the commercial "trial" (e.g., it's out-of-date and it's not free, and will expire in a year or less anyway) software currently pre-installed on Dell Windows computers, consider instead AVG, ClamWin, or Avast! anti-virus - all of which are free for end-users, and all of which score higher than Symantec products (for example) in independent anti-virus testing. 12 Comments »

Backlit Keyboards

I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option.

I would actually pay extra for that convenience if the option was available.
This could be done for desktops or notebooks.

Hey, it would be great if dell could sell computers with pre-installed virtualization options, by doin' that, we could choose the OS (or multiple OS) that we want in our machine... IE:

Partner with shipping companies to be more green

Since so much volume gets shipped through the likes of DHL, UPS, FedEx because of the Dell direct model, wouldn't it be wise to partner with them to become greener, maybe a special fleet of biodiesel trucks for the Dell products? or only use Virgin airlines who is committing to be green (I think).

Have more USB ports on the XPS 1330, just like the 1210. Just 2 USB ports is very less. One is always occupied by the mouse, and only one remains free. Also, currently the XPS 1330 does not feature a rotatable camera like the 1210. Please add that feature as an option in XPS 1330. 18 Comments »

Make the dell ubuntu models available through the main webpage

Instead of having the model listings on a different webpage ( www.dell.com/open) have these models available from the product search you have on the main page or a link available through the main page (www.dell.com)

When I go to dell.com and I search for the product model numbers I never can find them I have to go to the other page and then I see it. The only thing I saw on the main page is a small flash ad which then takes you to the page.

Why cant you place these models with the other models on your page.........

Cut shipping and tax

Most large online retailers post the cheapest shipping together the item price. Dell shipping is quite expensive (unless it's free:) which you don't know until you are done customizing).

Are there simple and legal ways to avoid having to pay taxes? One of them is not to do business in a given state but to ship from another state instead. That's what other online retailers do, and it makes their laptops $60-100 cheaper.

In general, the website should at least warn you that your local tax will be applied and that a shipping charge (or no shipping charge) awaits! This should be stated before system customization. 12 Comments »

Allow customers to come to Dell.com and Order just "Plant a Tree"

Allow users to work with dell to imrpove Dell's "green" image. Make an "Accessories" product to allow people to just order "plant a tree" or to order as many "Plant a tree"s as they want. This option was not presented when I bought a desktop just a few days ago and I personally would go back right now and order "Plant a tree" because I would like to.

I think that if nothing else, the few minutes it would take Dell to setup this option would give you guys something to point to, even if it wasnt an option that a lot of people had taken advantage of.

if you wanted to take the concept a step forward, build a few add banners/buttons etc to make freely availible with the code to insert one on your web page. The button would be something along the lines of "Join Dell in planting trees". Your logo is associated with an environmental practice, blue logo on green with various tree abstracts in the image, etc. Reputation boost, plus you have genuinely provided a capability to your user base and various concerns on the internet to actively take part in helping Dell be green.

Sure, maybe you are using a few hours of the time of your salaried workers who you already pay for to add the item to the site and create some logos but if you really care about improving your reputation in this area, it might be an investment well worth it. 14 Comments »

Laptop Web Cam and Microphone

Webcams are standard on all XPS laptops and an option on all Inspiron laptops.
