give the possibility to choose the OS Operating Systems submitted by nicolagiacobbe 02/19/07 Simply let the user choose what he wants. I had to put down many Dell offers for not having the possibility to avoid the Windows tax. A pre-installed Linux distro could be OK but the most freedom is to let the user choose which OS wants on his PC (if any). 5 Comments » Solid State Drive as option in Notebooks Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by tablet205 03/28/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Definition Sell more desktops without monitors, keyboards, etc Desktops, Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by gordonbrown77 02/16/07 **COMING SOON** Make it an option to not get things people may already have when upgrading a PC such as monitors, mouse, keyboard. This would be good environmentally and save people some money if they already have theae things and will not be keeping the old PC. 34 Comments » Software submitted by fgarpe 02/26/07

Always include ALL software AND driver reinstallation discs for FREE (or at let us get the option do get the for free if we want as follows)...don't make us pay extra in case that we have a disaster and need to reinstall from scratch...! Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. I have a XP Pro retail copy, will soon buy retail vista, I also like Linux: Make WINDOWS-FREE, and OS-Free an option for more than just expensive business lines. Desktops and Laptops submitted by mwmtjm 01/30/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Do away with 512MB of memory as a base option to buy consumer desktops and notebooks. With Vista running best on 1GB at a minimum, don't make customers have a basic experience with the new OS because Dell wants to be able to advertise at a lower price point. The success of Vista -- and subsequently for Dell -- will be largely in word of mouth. Take a long-term view and build the momentum one great customer experience at a time right now! Would love the ability to have a clean Vista install. No AOL software, no earthlink software, no google software - just a clean, original OS. Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. Make longer lasting batteries for better portability Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptop Power submitted by winoffice 05/05/07 **IN PROGRESS**
Don't make us recharge our laptops' batteries so often! A recent Cnet article (posted at Cnet's news site at about May 5, 2007) explains that Windows Vista's Aero Glass feature gives you less battery life. So, if we want Windows Vista, then we either have to recharge more often, or pay extra for more and better batteries! Instead, make Dell get rid of the batteries which quickly lose their charge...and come up with something that would give us longer battery life as follows (under Windows Vista), without making us stay away from Windows Vista or pay an extra $99 for another and better battery. Software and Proprietary Products Software submitted by bobtravels 05/05/07 Stop installing entry-level or "starter" software. Also make it easier for consumers to purchase memory from non-Dell suppliers. I don't want to be tied to Dell-only products to enhance my next computer. This has been the case with the five-year old Dell Dimension 8200 desktop that I plan to replace later this year. Comment » Change The Laptop Power Plug, Please! Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products submitted by transit60 05/05/07
Dell needs to change the type of power adapter plug that attaches to their Inspiron laptops. The plug end that connects to the laptop does not fit snug and is too easily pulled out. All Dell Accessories should use a common power hub Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays, Printers and Ink submitted by delawie 05/06/07 I need two power strips to hold the scads of wall wart power supplies I use for all of my computer gadgets - printer, scanner, camera, speakers, external hard drive, etc. Dell should come up with a standard power hub with multiple outlets - maybe 8 - 10 - that all of its accessories could use. then you would only need two sockets - one for the CPU & monitor, one for the power hub. 3 Comments » Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jeffme 05/06/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
I've always thought that the 13.3" screen was the ultimate laptop screen - it has a more eye-friendly dot pitch than the 12", isn't as ungainly or heavy as a 14.1" and it accommodates a wider keyboard quite easily. Enable AHCI in Dell Notebook BIOS Operating Systems, Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by ldr 05/06/07
Latest Dell notebooks are based on ICH7M chipset and even have SATA hard drives with NCQ support. But, the option to enable ahci, and therefore to enable SATA NCQ is not available in Dell BIOSes (other brands give the option). Sales Strategies, Software submitted by mcneiljohn 05/06/07
Completely eliminate all crapware on new computers, but provide access to all trial software versions on a dvd requiring conscious action by the user to install and provide a booklet with a brief description of the promoted products. Provide one Notebook and one desktop with hardware entirely supported under opensource licences Dell, Linux, Software submitted by monday90 05/06/07 Either source your own drivers and release them under an open source license or build them from hardware that has openly available interfaces. This enables people to install whatever they want, Windows/ Linux /BSD /Opensolaris etc and write their own drivers should they wish to. You wouldn't even have to provide drivers for the latter option. All of this can already be done, the challenge is putting together the best performing rig. 6 Comments » No OS Installed (at a lower cost!) Dell, Operating Systems submitted by fuscob 05/06/07 We understand that there is already an option to have no OS preloaded on the machine, but it doesn't save any money. A copy of XP Pro OEM costs $139 - the consumer should get that money back if they choose not to have Windows preloaded. 10 Comments » track my votes
