Let customers choose what trialware/demoware to pre-install to subsidize their machine. Sales Strategies, Software submitted by jmxz 04/19/07
Many people understandably complain about third party software on Dells (it's one of the top rated items on ideastorm). McAfee Trial - (subtract $10) on your purchase pages.Norton Trial - (subtract $15) AOL trial - (subtract $20) MSN default search engine (subtract $20) Microsoft Works - (subtract $100) That would give people who don't want the hassle of the third party windows software ways to avoid it; and it would give power users who don't mind it and know how to uninstall/avoid it the benefit of the cheaper subsidized machine. Personally I would get them all -- yes, including Norton and Macafee and any other antivirus programs - because the first thing I'd do is remove Windows from the machine anyway. But it would be interesting to see if I can get a machine sufficiently cheaper that my savings would offset the time it would take to install Linux vs the presumably higher cost of buying a less subsidized pre-installed Linux machine. 9 Comments » Support Engineers that speak English Service and Support submitted by scottgreer 04/19/07 Why is it so hard for Dell to hire call center employees that speak fluent, clear English? It, on average, doubles the length of a call (and my frustration) getting assistance on any issue. I can't imagine that it would cost so much to move those call centers back for all customers. Dell. The Man. The company. Apply Thermal Grease At The Factory - Thermal Pads Are Terrible. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by burner 04/19/07
The use of thermal grease instead of a thermal pad will cause better heat transfer between the CPU and heatsink. More heat will be removed by the heatsink as a result. This should increase the lifespan of several components and reduce fan speed/noise. Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), OptiPlex products submitted by animart3d 04/19/07 so that not to do renderfarm but cheap of the market. single they must put 5 optiplex in a cabinet for rack. to use a source of being able redundante and shared for the 5 computers and that each one has its exits usb and of network. 3 Comments » Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by rjrich 04/19/07 Win XP Pro should be provided as an alternative to Win Vista on all laptop models (XPS and Inspiron as Lattitude and Precision). 1 Comment » Dell, Operating Systems, Desktops and Laptops submitted by bassaf 03/08/07 Make a deal with Steve Jobs and have OS X installed on new Dell PCs with style and affordable price, so my father can actualy use a computer without being a systems engineer. 51 Comments » Operating Systems submitted by javaprog07 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP. track my votes
