Solid-State Drive at a kiosk

submitted by jjl1973 12/29/07

It would be nice to see a machine equipped with an SSD at a Dell Kiosk so the technology could be seen in action. WIth the current 64GB drive currently a $750 upgrade, laying it out there for everyone to see could potentially justify the cost for some. Comment »

Create a corporate uniform image in the products

Sales Strategies submitted by olivieri 12/29/07

Unify the image of the notebooks, not a new notebook case for every model

-Include Shipping & Handling n the price of the computer 1 Comment »

We Want To Build Our Own Computers!!!

Sales Strategies submitted by the_joker 12/29/07

Dell should be able to satisfy experienced computer users as well as the normal average "whatever" computer user. I believe that it is cheaper to buy a computer when the company doesn't have to build it for you. So I think the Dell website should have a separate section for computer builders who want to build their own computers. We should be able to pick our own parts and have Dell ship them to us and let us build the computer our self. Building your own computer is not only fun but is a great learning experience for computer users. We have a chance to actually get our hands "dirty" with the system and see how it works. This marketing strategy will not only save Dell some money but will also save us a couple of dollars also. We should be able to choose everything we want and install it ourselves, even the OS. Well thats just an idea from a 14 year old boy. :) 7 Comments »

Add an "Alerts" tab to the user dashboard

Dell, IdeaStorm submitted by winoffice 12/29/07

Currently, if a dell_admin wants to merge or delete a post, no one will know of the threat until they actually visit the Web page of the post, which they might or might not do until the post is actually deleted or merged. And the user this way does not get to reply to the threat, unless they search for the post that the dell_admin wants to delete or merge.

There should be an easier way to find out such threats. On the current user dashboard I see this.

"Dashboard | Ideas Submitted | Ideas Voted On | Comments | Account Details | Saved Items"

Dell, you might want to add a an "Alerts" category there. That way, if anyone clicks on "Alerts", then he/she will easily find out if a dell_admin wants to delete or merge a post, rather than having to search for the idea or comment. 3 Comments »

Upgrade My PC For ME!!!!!!!

Service and Support, Desktops and Laptops submitted by hds272 12/29/07

Let users send in their old dell to get ram, harddrive, os, anything upgraded for a service and cost fee. I would find this an amazing way for dell to make some $$$ and keep customers loyal.

Thanks,

My Design

Sales Strategies, Software, Laptops submitted by hds272 12/29/07

I enjoy making graphics in photoshop and would love to have the ability to have dell put my designs on the laptop, maybe even engravings! Also allow a set of stuff to put on the fron and sides like the ZUne stuff. I would love to have some sweet abstract vector engravings on my PC!!!

That would be cool,

Dell XPS m1930 Laptop

XPS products submitted by matthewmonkan 12/30/07

Dell's XPS lineup will only be complete once it has a successor to its m2010 notebook. It should offer the latest specs like the m1730 and be at least 2-3 pounds lighter than the m2010 in its final stage of design. It should include the same sleek handle and wrap-around case as an m2010 and be able to support itself upright when opened without feet protruding from the handle. I'd rather spend $2999+ for this notebook than a fortune on an m1730 with World of Warcraft theming. 1 Comment »

More OS Choices on the XPS Line!

Operating Systems, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by hoodedthing 12/30/07

Alright, the XPS laptop line is pretty good, but the OS choices are awfully limited. As a matter of fact, it's usually a choice between Vista or Vista Ultimate. Putting Linux, no-OS, and XP choices on all computers isn't a new subject, but I'm talking about the XPS line, because it seems to have been left out of the "partially implemented" part of those ideas.

The m1330 and the m1530 are both VISTA ONLY. I don't know about everyone else, but Vista pretty much sucks, and I would definitely re-platform any XPS I bought rather than deal with it. Can't we have a choice of XP, no OS, or Linux? Dell is really strangling these great computers by making Vista their mandatory OS.

The m1710 and m1730 do give you the choice of XP, but those laptops start at $2300. Why would you only offer XP on your high-end systems? It's not a new expensive product, it's still in demand, it's not anything inconvenient for Dell, so let's just stick it back in the pre-installion options.

So, they're great laptops, we want more OS choices because it's easy for us if we get the OS we want pre-installed, or at least don't have to wipe and then install one ourselves. I don't know how the legal whoop-dee-doo works with XP as opposed to Vista, but I know that a blank or Linux hard drive is free, and there's no excuse for not offering those. 14 Comments »

Light sensor on monitors (to dim or brighten the display automatically)

Monitors and Displays submitted by jmxz 12/31/07

It'd be nice if both my Laptop and Desktop could dim the display at night when it's dark; and brighten it automatically when the room is well lit; and brighten it even further if the sun's shining in the room.

It seems there's a fair amount of software that (very annoyingly, IMHO) brightens and dims the displays of notebooks when the power's connected or disconnected. But in reality I want the display to look readable to me - which depends far more on the lighting in the room than the power cord.

If all the monitors had a built in webcam, that would address this; but they don't, so perhaps a light sensor would do instead.

While I'm on the topic of dimming displays, It'd sure be nice if the dim setting on the E1505N's display could get twice (or even 10 times) as dim as it does. Even on the dimmest setting it annoys people trying to sleep in the same room as someone using the laptop. 3 Comments »

Update drivers more often.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support submitted by laxmanb 12/31/07

Dell hasn't updated drivers for the ATi Mobility Radeon in my notebook for 7 months. Since ATi, Nvidia, and most other manufacturers release new drivers on a regular basis to OEMs (once every month), And the early Vista drivers are buggy (my display driver stops working at times after hibernating), Couldn't you just post them onto your Drivers and Downloads page on a regular basis? 5 Comments »

Quit making government/higher education discounted items cost more than the same items in the home and small business stores

Dell, Education submitted by jfaris 12/10/07

It's frustrating as a purchaser at a public institution to find that almost every product listed in the government/higher ed store costs more than the same product in the other Dell stores. Discounts that apply to all of the other stores disappear. It seems like Dell is trying to take advantage of deep pockets and the assumption that some people make that they are getting a discount for being a public agency.

To get the lower price everyone else gets I have to call up and argue with a salesman every single time I want to buy something. This is a bad business practice and seems dishonest to me.

Please fix your pricing so that people like me don't have to jump through a thousand hoops to get the normal market price you charge for a product. 4 Comments »
