LED Backlit Displays for Higher Resolutions for XPS M1530 Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by whitefrost May 14 The release of the LED backlit 1440 x 900 display is great, but needs to be expanded to higher resolutions most notably the 1680 x 1050 resolution which a large number of people use and are most comfortable with. It would not be a threat to the M1730 as you can keep the LED Full HD 1920 x 1200 for it alone. 6 Comments » "Europe" is not only France + Germany + UK Linux, Service and Support submitted by warp10 08/08/07
Dell started selling PCs equipped with Ubuntu in Europe a few days ago. Anyway, looks like Dell think Europe is only France, Germany and UK. [1] Develop A "No OS" Compatibility Testing Tool Service and Support submitted by aikiwolfie Jan 25
Given that Dell are clearly behind and struggling to cope with the overwhelming and monumental task of running compatibility testing for bare systems, I thought it was time for Dells customer base to give something back to Dell and not just give Dell their hard earned cash. Which of course could be better spent on more important things like buying the girl friends those shoes and that dress we never hear the end of. Better LCD Resolution for Inspiron 1525 Inspiron products, Monitors and Displays submitted by taumax Jan 4

E-SATA provides a way to add fast external storage with much better performance than USB or Firewire. Adding an E-SATA port would greatly improve the expandabiliy of Dell's notebook computers. HDMI, HDMI, by God almighty, HDMI Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by benjesuit 09/25/07
HP has had it on their notebooks for 1 year now. Come on Dell! What's it going to take to put in an HDMI port? Most of the new LCD TV's today input HDMI. Change Dell Direct Media with "mythtv+linux" (free software) Linux, Software submitted by jalberto Jan 19
Dell Direct Media is a windows reduced version and it depend on a full windows instalaltion to work. The idea is to create a new "Dell Direct Media NG" based on a embedded linux with mythtv. This will provide the same funcionality so more features and pros: Offer 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista XPS products submitted by jefisher Jan 14 I have been searching for a new laptop and would like to future-resist the purchase and take full advantage of the 4GB RAM that I would like to include, however the only versions of ANY OS that Dell supports is 32-bit only. Dell needs to offer up the 64-bit versions so that 1/2 the warrenty is not voided when I load the 64-bit version from Microsoft using the same licence (which yes is valid). If MS can offer up these disks, why cant Dell? Support 64-bit Computing now 90% of the computers sold at Dell.com can support it. 21 Comments » Make the dell ubuntu models available through the main webpage Dell Web Site, Linux, Sales Strategies submitted by rajeevbhatta 06/19/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Instead of having the model listings on a different webpage ( www.dell.com/open) have these models available from the product search you have on the main page or a link available through the main page (www.dell.com) Sales Strategies submitted by sonjordan Jan 17
I'm not exactly sure what the role of the salesperson is at Dell. I have called and chatted with them about why I cannot get 1440 x 900 resolution for the Inspiron 1525. They offered it initially but then dropped it for some reason. Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by xivulon 09/26/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
There are several proposals that basically ask the same thing: SHOW UBUNTU IN THE LIST OF OPERATING SYSTEM ON ALL MACHINES [subtract $50]. And why not, add XP to the list as well. There are also many more proposals that would be made redundant IF the above was implemented. If you add them all together that is probably the most requested feature at the moment. Yes I think many of the ideas below can be merged. coreboot (formerly LinuxBIOS) instead of proprietary BIOS Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by yesmathew 02/20/07
coreboot (formerly known as LinuxBIOS) is a Free Software project aimed at replacing the proprietary BIOS (firmware) you can find in most of today's computers. Make Intel Virtualization Technology (VT) enabled by default or allow user to enable Linux, XPS products submitted by shinypup Jan 23
So I get my new M1530 and setup VMWare Workstation 6.0.2. When I try to install Windows (I use Linux) VMWare reports VT is disabled and I should enable it in the BIOS. Low and behold the BIOS lacks the option to enable VT (in the M1530 model specifically, some people report other models do allow you to enable it). I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. Offer HighResolution screens for your consumer Laptops as you do for the business Latitudes Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by rseibel 04/22/07

It is not much more effort, but makes them much more attractive. Develop A Linux/Ubuntu Compatibility Testing Tool Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by aikiwolfie Jan 24
It's clear now that implementation of Ubuntu across Dells range of desktop and notebook systems is going to be a slow and arduous process. Undoubtedly there's a tone of compatibility testing and bug fixing to be done before Dell can sell most systems to customers that just work. Dell however are holding things back by not utilizing the Linux communities greatest assets. Linux users! Sales Strategies, XPS products, Laptops submitted by bryan14c Jan 9
dell should implement a Core 2 extreme processor as an option for the XPS 1330 and 1530 and a first quad core notebook , because the high end models have this , why not on the 1330 and 1530 XPS is high end right? and also why stick to 8600gt that there is a 8700gt or above graphics card , well the XPS 1530 and 1330 overall design is great slim light, well as an addition dell should also implement a PENRYN processor Let Us Build A PC Without Microsoft Works or Office! Ubuntu on all models where it works Linux, Operating Systems, Small Business submitted by jonsmirl 08/01/07 **IN PROGRESS**
I'm still throwing away copies of Windows. Recently I have ordered some Dimension 9200s from Small Business. All of these machines are running Ubuntu today without problem. They're being used to replace some PE400SCs that are starting to die. A 2GB quad core for $649 was too good a deal to pass up. It makes a great small server. track my votes
