True Media Center PC form factor New Product Ideas submitted by bgullick 08/30/07
I've been waiting patiently for Dell to release a true home theater style PC form factor. All other PC companies have a product in this form factor except Dell. The product needs to look like an audio component and should have the following features as a minimum: Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by hardway 08/30/07 Many of us have seen personal USB cooling fans that clip on or can be positioned by the user to blow air on to them. These are great idea but no one needs another device to carry around with their laptop, no matter how small it is. On the next generation of Dell laptops a pop-up "bank" of cooling fans could be integrated in to the case of the display. Something like 3 or 4 slim PC cooling fans would be perfect. Offer variable speed controlled by the user within the software (think Windows volume control) able to run any one or all of the fans. On airplanes, in restaurants, at the office, outside, and many other locations, a small custom steady breeze is priceless. 5 Comments » Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by mugunth 08/31/07 Why not have an option to Laser Engrave a quote or names on the laptop? Seems Canonical is thinking of it... Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 08/31/07 In car PC has been brought up before but I don't think in this way. Dell could make a tablet PC with a screen the size of a double din car stereo. The PC would click into a dock in the dashboard and work as your PC, Radio, GPS, MP3 player and video player all in one. The dock would supply the power and connections for the stereo speakers and hold an amplifier to boost sound. When you remove the PC from the dock it runs on battery or a supplied power cable like a normal tablet. I think a removable PC makes more sense than a built in one. 7 Comments » Ubuntu pre-installed on Dell servers Linux, Servers and Storage submitted by seeking_alpha 08/31/07 Could you please start offering servers with Ubuntu, Dell? I am a more advanced user of Ubuntu Linux. I can get the propietary NVidia driver running, the webcam running and the Bluetooth working. Please don't prevent me the opportunity to ship me a 1420N with these additional hardware choices. I want only the best possible for my laptop. That means 4GB ram, fastest hard drive, processor, and graphics card. I can get the other peripherals working on my own. For the sake of the less advanced Ubuntu users, you could put a disclaimer that indicates limited or no functionality will be available with these peripherals unless you know how to install additional drivers (restricted) in Ubuntu Linux. Dell - please stay focused on the highest-voted ideas. Don't distract yourselves with the other ones until you've addressed the ideas below which have been the top-ranked ideas for at least 6 months without adequate responses.. Why not make some decent bags available for the M1330 - USA has a decent range but new zealand range is very poor. Most of them either look like something from the 1990s or are designed for far larger computers. We bought a M1330 for portability and looks, and we need bags to match. I think theyre needs to be another 15.4" size XPS system, currently the XPS lineup has no middle ground, theres either the m1210 which is too small, or the m1710 which is too large ( I dont count the m2010, since its not really a laptop, its more of its own hybrid desktop/laptop comptuer thing) use the e1505 chassis, give it the cool XPS lights, and a D-dock connectior below Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by nardzro 09/03/07 Can you sell Alienware on your website? would be easy to compare with your XPS product 3 Comments » Have a MCE destop tower available Desktops submitted by sonic77 09/04/07 Give customers the option to have a multimedia desktopt tower. I have been informed by a customer that he would like to see that option and many computer companies are not making them available. That way when a person wants to put it next to their stereo it matches the evironment. Comment » Embeded virtualization on current/"legacy" laptops via bootable SD slot. First: Entry for each new product in Linux Wiki Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by power3d 09/06/07
Dell has a wiki ( http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_7.04 ) for a few systems. Why don't create an entry for each system and then let the community contribute with tips/solutions for each system? Dell's part of an amazing Windows supercomputer. Operating Systems, Servers and Storage submitted by jmxz 09/07/07
This is a followup (but not a dup) to a previous Idea of an Amazing Dell Linux supercomputer. What I didn't realize is that there is apparently a a much bigger Windows cluster that undoubtedly has many Dell nodes. Who would have guessed that windows clusters could scale that well. The previous Idea mentioned that Dell may not be taking advantage of the PR benefits of the impressive NCSA supercomputer because it was Linux based and Dell seems to hide most of their Linux activities. With the existence of the Windows cluster Dell can say they can do big things on both Linux and Windows supercomputers. Idea: Dell - let the world know how good you are at supercomputers - the first names that pop to my mind are still IBM, HP, NEC, etc. Pledge to make 1420n work fully with standard Ubuntu 7.10 Inspiron products, Linux, Operating Systems submitted by dara 09/08/07
I know there isn't much more time before the 7.10 release of Ubuntu (pre release named Gutsy Gibbon). I've been following a bit in ubuntuforums.org and some are optimistic about a fresh install of 7.10 enabling all the hardware on a 1420n. But I'd be much more likely to buy a 1420n now (I'm close) if Dell would promise to make every effort to get everything on this laptop as currently offered (heck, throw in bluetooth again too) working fully with the October release (and if not fully, working to get the updates onto the repositories as soon as possible. I think it's about time Dell and Nvidia got together and produced a Quad SLI option. Some custom system builders were producing these when SLI first appeard. Everybody went "oooooo" ... dribbled down their shirts and then we get nothing. Next-Day-Delivery On Parts & Upgrade Products Service and Support submitted by aikiwolfie 09/09/07
I'd like to see Dell implement a Next-Day-Delivery program for upgrade parts and consumables. I've recently just ordered two additional hard drives. The on-line tracking system tells me they won't arrive until the end of the week. track my votes
