Retail Presence- Don't cheapen the Brand!

Dell submitted by raymc 05/29/07

I hope you know what your doing! Looking on from the UK I shared the general hope that DELL would start a retail presence, but was dismayed to see that WalMart is your choice of retail partner in the US. Translating that choice over to the UK, WalMart=ASDA, and I can't think of a worse choice for a retail partner! The picture this condures up is;

1. Stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap policy- go for the lowest common denominator, price as the only deferentiator, unsophisticated customer base!

2. Non-specialised sales staff.

3. definitely NOT the first, and probably the last, place I would choose to buy a PC.

Even if you are very selective with the models on offer, there is a grave danger that the DELL brand will be sadly diminished by your choice of friends.

I am a big fan of DELL and have sold many DELL systems to clients over the years, and personally have 3 high end DELL systems for my personal use. I am rooting for you, but ask yourselves is this latest move an admission that DELL is now just a me-too box shifter? The Alienware, XPS ranges offer hope that this is not the case but please tread very carefully, you are as others see you! 2 Comments »

Sort it out Mr Dell, before it's too late!!!

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by raymc 03/08/07

Please Mr Dell, get into retail outlets! I don't care how, but you must swallow your pride and place DELL products in retail stores alongside
your competitors URGENTLY.

Laptops, Laptops and more Laptops!

In the UK, I spent several hours on Saturday in a prominent hardware retailer 'PC World' and watched many, many ordinary people (not the techies who dominate this IdeaStorm) asking very basic selection questions of the staff and walking out with laptops by the shedload.

HP, Acer, Compaq, Sony, Phillips & even Apple, all there for the customer to see and feel. What makes DELL so special and seemingly so aloof?? The market is telling you something, ARE YOU LISTENING MR DELL!!!

Look at Acer's sales growth!!! Look at DELL's sales slump, how can you fail but to be extremely annoyed at missing out on the most obvious area of hardware growth?

Most of the ordinary people I know have bought ACER laptops, and mainly because they are there in front of them! None have even considered DELL, purely because they are not willing to buy sight unseen.

In first purchase homes, how do you even expect people to access the Internet in the first place to view your products???

And as for the telephone, forget it! Who in their right mind is going to buy a Laptop over the telephone, on the strength of a newspaper advert?

You are not reaching your customers!

I am technically minded, and in the market for a new laptop. I like and use DELL products. Your website drives me crazy, too many choices, too confusing & I can't even touch the product!

Believe me I am a fan of DELL and want to give you my custom but I can't bring myself to buy sight unseen, when there is so much choice just 5 minutes down the road!

Don't ignore what the sales figures are telling you, be bold Mr DELL but above all, be quick!!! 1 Comment »

BloatWare Uninstall- single click software remove

Software submitted by raymc 02/19/07

I understand the importance to Dell of the additional revenue stream collected from the suppliers of 'free' bundled software. So to shift the decision making process onto the customer, can Dell make the removal of such bundled software a single click choice 'remove bloatware' on first power-up of new products? Ergo Revenue stream retained and customer choice satisfied! 6 Comments »
