Start a reseller model vs. 'Dell only' for accessories Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), PartnerStorm submitted by earlra 02/21/07 **IMPLEMENTED**
I was looking from RAM and an internal HD to upgrade my Dimension 4600 machine. However, when i looked on the Dell site, I could find only 'reconditioned' hard drives. To add insult to injury, I found I could get new drives at a better cost/capacity ratio from other online vendors. Why in the world would I then buy from Dell? In the end, the only thing I bought from Dell was the mounting bracket to make sure I had the right one. Solution Provider Direct Program Upgrade PartnerStorm submitted by cyberbiz 02/20/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Most customers and industry people don't know this, but Dell has a reseller program where small software vendors, VARs and system integrators can buy discounted Dell gear and resell to the public. The idea, naturally, is for the reseller to provide support services in conjunction with the hardware sale. Empower Your Value Added Resellers PartnerStorm submitted by mongo 02/24/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
As it stands, very few customers even know Dell has a Value Added Reseller program. The program itself is poorly supported internally, and lacks the infrastructure to compete with other major reseller programs. Here is a list of the top five things Dell needs to do to improve the Value Added Reseller program: PartnerStorm submitted by colinharris 07/15/07 I would like to see proper recognition of value added resellers. At present, we are treated like corporate customers and get allocated an account manager who knows that we are buying on behalf of our customers. We have no idea what our margin will be on any purchase or if there will be any margin. Often, customers phone in and get as good, if not better deals than we get. There are a lot of VARs buying from Dell, mainly because we like the reliability of the products. Please setup a VAR channel with a structured commission system. 2 Comments » Sales Strategies submitted by aikiwolfie Jun 15
Please for the love of God offer next day delivery of pre-configured PCs. I've just had to buy a new M1530 at short notice. Which meant I had to go to Tesco. Which meant I had to buy a Vista machine. Which means I'm now mentally traumatized and scarred for life! Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has. Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500". Offer IdeaStormers To R&D Their Own Ideas IdeaStorm submitted by simon_n Jun 19

I don't care whether the OS is pre-installed or not, I want all the hardware to be totally supported in the Linux kernel without in mucking around. I currently have a Dell M1210 and I wish the modem would work, just in case I need it. The web cam would work, just in case I need it. At least the Intel wireless card is totally supported. So you may be asking, am I insane? Include a touch sensitive screen on your new linux powered sub-notebooks! Linux, Laptops submitted by shrewduser Jun 14
Touch sensitive screens cost next to nothing, especially when its done by the manufacturer at scale. YI think they have an important role to play on the new generation of utlra portable linux based devices. Please stop using cheap LCD panels on your flagship XPS laptop line. Think how much energy would be saved if PCs were functional as soon as they were turned on - just like a PDA. Users would then turn the PC off when it was not required - rather than leaving it on just in case it might be needed. It would also save a lot of time. Don't put the Dell logo upside down on the Mini Inspiron Laptops submitted by jervis961 May 29
I didn't notice this last night as I was checking out the pictures of the new Dell Mini but it was pointed out by JamesWeb on Dell's "yourblog" that the Dell logo is upside down. Have Firefox pre-installed as default browser Software submitted by robinjfisher 02/19/07 **REVIEWED**
Does what it says on the tin! Most people only use IE because they aren't aware of other browsers - they think Internet Explorer is the Internet! What would really drive take up of alternative browsers is if Firefox was pre-installed as the default browser so that when people look for the "Internet" in Windows, they are using FF. I find myself many, many times in dark or poorly lit environments having to guess the various keys - would be fantastic to have a backlit keyboard - with backlit individual keys as the best option. Give XPS Notebooks Gigabit Ethernet XPS products submitted by croftki Feb 17 I understand that Dell market research says home users in general are not interested in gigabit ethernet for home networks. Those who pay for the premium design in the XPS line, however, are more likely to want gigabit ethernet. I would rather buy something more exciting than a business class notebook, but I want to build on my home technology with each purchase I make. XPS Notebooks unfortunately do not help me do this. It seems my only option is to buy a Latitude. 28 Comments » Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. Put Ubuntu on the list of operating systems when building a PC! Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by samb0057 08/10/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Ubuntu is hidden in a dark corner of the website. I work in IT support, and I have a client who was having virus problems a little while ago. I fixed the problem by installing Ubuntu on their PC. Very recently they called me asking for advice on a new computer, I told them about your new offer providing Ubuntu pre-installed on PCs and they wanted to purchase, but could not find the section on your site (this person is a very basic user, doesn't know what open-source means, probably didn't even see the open source link). There is no way they would have found your Ubuntu section on their own. Monitors and Displays, Laptop Power submitted by yardsale Jan 16 I dont know why dell hasnt done this yet. switch all monitors on desktops and notebooks to LED. did you know that you can run an LED screen at full brightniess and it uses less power than a LCD monitor at the lowest brighting level?!? its cheaper, its energy efficent, and it needs to be done! promote this, if you demote i wanna know why! 63 Comments » track my votes
