Pre-Installed Linux on Desktops and Laptops and offer AMD

Linux, Desktops and Laptops submitted by nukem 02/20/07

Dell I hope you're beginning to see the picture of why HP is kicking your [profanity removed by moderator]. You need to ask your customers what they want, don't assume.. It sounds like they want an alternative to Windows! Dahhh..

If you want to be number one offer the three top Linux Version pre-installed on you systems. You just might move back to the top.. Oh and while you're about it install AMD and do yourself a favor.. They may no longer be the top dog, but some of us want an alternative to Intel..

More AMD machines, higher graphics options, better sound integration

Desktops and Laptops submitted by pjf3rd 02/17/07

I applaud Dell for offering a few machines with less expensive AMD processors, but Dell needs to offer AMD options on more machines and notebooks, from the low end to the high end. Competition is good, sell more AMD and force Intel to reduce their ridiculously high prices.

And Dell needs better graphics options all over the spectrum. Why can't a buyer get a better graphics card pre-installed on ANY machine in the line, not just the higher-end ones?

Bottom line -- if I want to pay to get high-end graphics and sound and save money by choosing a lower-power processor and less software, why can't I?

I was forced to buy an HP notebook last year because HP offerred a 2Ghz AMD processor, 1GB RAM and 100GB hard drive + DVD-RW for under $1,250, while an equivalent Dell notebook was well over $2,300. And I got 15.4 in WXGA as well. The only HP drawback was 1280x1024 max on the LCD, but the graphics card supports 1600x1200 for an external monitor.

The last Dell desktop I bought (Dimension 8400) came with Soundblaster Live sound, but because it was a separate card and not chips on the MB, there are no front-panel sound connections. This is extremely annoying and makes sound connection changes much more difficult (my CPU is in a cabinet where it is harder to get at the back of the machine). Choosing higher-end sound should not remove convenient front-panel connections.

I have been a loyal Dell buyer since the mid '90's, and I still recommend Dell to friends and co-workers, but I will buy where the price and features are the best. Wake up Dell! 1 Comment »

AMD notebook with 64-bit Opteron multi-processing

Operating Systems, Laptops submitted by brianvon 02/20/07

If Dell were to develop an AMD notebook with 64-bit Opteron multi-processing, it would enable a luggable laptop with desktop performance. Now that more and more computing is occurring on laptops, Dell needs to close the performance gap with laptop workstations that push directly into 64-bit multi-threading performance. Ship Windows XP 64 on it. Battery endurance is less of an issue than speed and performance for a power user. 1 Comment »

AMD cpu's in servers and blade servers

Servers and Storage submitted by balle-larsen 03/03/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Dell is loosing sales on servers because you are not offering AMD cpu's for servers.

In competition with e.g. HP and IBM for rack mounted servers Dell has no matching offer.

As Enterprises are entering into Blade systems and Virtual servers the AMD equiped servers are not available from Dell and you are missing out an opertunity to develop og even stay in that market.

Now offered on the PowerEdge M605

AMD in XPS Notebooks

submitted by inspiron8000 02/18/07

I think dell should come out with a 15inch XPS Notebook with an AMD Processor and should incorporate the new RS600 Chipset set for release in April and also come with x2800 or x2900 graphics or the integrated x1250 graphics solutions.

If you this Mr. Dell I think people would take your Company seriously in offering AMD Products. I nothing against your inspirons, they are great ( I own an Inspiron 8000 Fully Loaded for back in its day) but I'm looking for a 15inch XPS with and AMD in it.

Hope You take this in Consideration
P.S. Keep my suggestion in mind you release these in the future release in your XPS Line. 2 Comments »
