Offer the 8800M in Latitude

Dell, Latitude products submitted by zanlok Jan 29

The graphics cards in these latitudes are amazingly outdated. I personally want the option of non-Quadro card in my Latitude. The 3dMark06 performance of the 8800M is amazing compared to those lame Quadro NVS 135M / 140M cards. If it doesn't conveniently port, then do a motherboard/cooling redesign for the Latitude D640. But, offer it ! 7 Comments »

4GB Upgrade a ripoff?

submitted by bobhalford Jan 2

If you are not aware that the full 4GB of addressable ram space is not available when you pay for the memory upgrade option, (my machine reports 3.3GB... so thats over 600 MB lost) you might see this as a ripoff... it is really not worth going beyond 3GB for a 32 bit address-space cpu. Dell should point this out when offering the option.

Give discount for the delays

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by saleemohaib 08/29/07

These days there are delays with some of Dell products. I think as good gesture Dell should offer extra discounts to customers who order products with extended delivery time.

Dell Outlet: allow more "at least" or "greater than" search options

Sales Strategies submitted by bg02446 08/30/07

The Dell Outlet search can be frustrating: I'd like to see more "at least" or "greater than" search options. I don't care whether my PC has a 256, 512 or larger video card, I just want it to be AT LEAST 256. Same with HD size and some other options.

I noticed there were some changes made to the Dell outlet web site, but they were not significant enough, to my mind. Comment »

Apple Now #3 in Laptop Sales in US

Dell submitted by lindahewitt 08/29/07

Apple is now #3 in laptops sales in the U.S. HP is in first position and Toshiba is in the #2 slot.

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&artic...

Why is this happening. Apple is better at delivering quality at all levels but most important, they understand how to treat their customers.

When is Dell going to institute a strategy more customer and quality oriented? 14 Comments »

Monitor Optional for PC = Motor Optional for Car

Monitors and Displays, Sales Strategies submitted by nyorker 06/13/07

Why not promote honesty?

Adding 3 years to an included 1 year service warantee is optional (and a good idea).

Adding memory and upgrading hard disk is optional (and, in many cases, a good idea).

Trying to make use of an older monitor seems like trying to take the carpet when you move - don't you want a chance for something newer and better? 6 Comments »

Simple design improvements for LCDs

Monitors and Displays submitted by mattj 05/25/07

Three simple improvements for LCDs - I'm basing them off a 24" 4:3 LCD.

1) Make the "No signal detected" screensaver picture only remain for say 30 seconds, then switch to sleep mode. I'm sure lots of people use an LCD attached to a laptop, so just pulling out the cable without needing to switch the LCD off makes sense.

2) Turn the side-mounted usb sockets upside down, so the "top" of them faces the user. For most plugs it doesn't matter, but it's useful for usb memory sticks with activity indicators.

3) Rearrange the up/down navigation buttons more untuitively. I always get mixed up with which of the left or right buttons will be up/down, and everyone else who uses the monitor finds the same.

Those are 3 simple no-cost things that'd make things more sensible. 1 Comment »

Monitors and Displays, Desktops and Laptops submitted by mikedee 04/04/07

i fix alot of computers and its amazing to me how many people leave their monitors on 24 hours a day .. its not all the end users fault as MS has XP set at Never by default .. Vista Intro Outsold XP

Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by catalyst 03/27/07

Microsoft: Vista Intro Outsold XP
Sales of Vista during the first month that the newest Windows operating system was available to consumers were more than double the sales that Windows XP racked up in twice the time, Microsoft Corp. said.
While Microsoft didn't break out Vista sales by version of the product, anecdotally, users appear to prefer the premium version. Dell Inc. customers are "overwhelmingly" choosing the premium version of XP, a Dell spokesman said in the Microsoft statement. 7 Comments »

Dell partners with The Air Car

Dell, Environment, Laptop Power submitted by reg 03/26/07

The Air Car runs on Compressed Air. It is the only car with NEGATIVE EMISSIONS RATINGS! Air is Cleaner coming out of it than going into it!

The Air compressor filters air as it goes into the car, and the car filters the air as it goes out. The Air car acts as a transportable atmospheric scrubber system.

Click the Air Car to see other models.

Dimensions: 3.84m, 1.72m, 1.75m
Weight: 750 kg
Maximum speed: 110 kmh
Mileage: 200 - 300 km
Max load: 500 Kg
Recharge time: 4 hours (Mains connector)
Recharge time: 3 minutes (Air station)

No Combustion, no pollution, no heavy electric battery, no heavy metals, no toxic leaks. It use just compressed AIR. Travel for only a few cents, instead of more than $2.00 a gallon of gas.

Burning gasoline is expressed as exploding expanding gases. Why use liquids at all, when AIR is so much cleaner, easy to store, and actually helps the environment?

Dont eliminate XP just yet

Operating Systems submitted by javaprog07 02/17/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

Ok, well I know I may be chastised for bringing this up, but vista is still a young operating system with its own problems etc... I would like to see both Home and Business computers, especially notebooks have an XP Home and Pro option on top of Vista until it has at least been out for a year. For those seasoned users like me who just feel that you need to let a new OS mature before jumping right in. I am planning on buying a new notebook, and I would like to insure I wont have to format it on arrival just to have XP.
Check out the Idea in Action to find out more about Dell offering XP.
