User selects which OS(Linux or Windows) to boot into on all new Dells

Linux, Operating Systems - Multiboot, Desktops and Laptops submitted by shannon_vanwagner 12/14/07

Imagine the headline.."With Dell you get a choice in what OS you can boot into when your computer starts up!" OR "Experience the best of all worlds Windows/Linux with your dual-boot Dell!!"

Dell could be the only company (at least initially) that sells all computers with the capability to select which OS (Linux or Windows) to use after the computer boots up. The computer can be configured to dual-boot Linux or Windows at the factory.

This would give both new users and experienced users the awesome capability to choose which Operating System they want to use every time they boot up their computer!! It's very important that common people get a choice when it comes to which OS they get to use - it's the future of computing!

Technology and Innovation is so important these days and so by offering this feature I think this would help to make Dell the market leader in innovation.

Here's how it might work:
The computer boots up and gives the user a choice with a snazzy, easy to use menu to select whether to enter Windows or to enter Linux (the Linux could eventually even be a few different distros so there would be even more choice!).

The user would then select which OS they want to use for that session, select it and then boot into it. Eventually Dell could then add the functionality for the two operating systems to share(or at least have access to) a part of the filesystem so the user's files could be accessed from whichever OS the user is currently booted into.

There would also be a simple recovery DVD and/or partition that could put the machine back to its original state if the user were to mess anything up.

Think about it, this would give users ULTIMATE POWER and more importantly A CHOICE!!! DELL CAN BREAK THE MONOPOLY AND SET THE NEW STANDARD!

Be INNOVATIVE, Think CHOICE!!

Can't wait to see it!!

DELL ROCKS!

Linux/Dell with a beautiful new computer case to show it's Linux - Dell's part in the OS revolution

Advertising and Marketing, Linux, Operating Systems submitted by shannon_vanwagner 04/22/07

Picture this...

You're riding on your favorite vessel of public transportation, there's people all around you. You just purchased an awesome new Dell loaded with Linux. Will anyone else notice? Probably not. Why? Because most people can't see your LCD display. When you show your computer in public, most people will only see the outside of your computer (the chassis).

So here's my point, if the outside of the Dell Linux computer looks just like any other regular computer, people will assume that it's just another computer loaded with W1ndows V$sta. Now if you were sitting on the ferry boat with a MAC computer, people will notice that you are using something different, no doubt "That Person's using a MAC". The guys at Apple have very successfully embraced the idea of being and looking different, and to them it makes profit. I think (and others would probably agree) that Linux deserves to have hardware that looks different and extravigant as well.

Here's what I propose, make the OUTSIDE of the Dell LINUX computer look much different from it's W1ndows counterpart, and make it look BETTER. Perhaps you could take a poll from your users, or have some type of design contest to see who could submit the best looking Linux computer chassis. You could also make it so the users can choose from different colors/styles of computer chassis (remember, choice is good when it comes to Linux). I believe this would stir up a lot of support from computer users everywhere because people would get to chance to personalize the look of their computer. This new Dell Linux computer would also have all of the greatest 2d/3d games already loaded and working beautifully on it as specified in previous postings.

Let's change Dell from.... Dell the #1 vendor of new computers with W1ndows V$sta to Dell the #1 vendor of computer products that are made for Users not profits - With Dell you(should) have a choice!

The OS revolution is at hand!! Dell should jump in now to be a major player.

On a sidenote, Here's my prediction: M$crosoft knows the OS revolution is at hand, that's why they are taking an interest in N0vell's SuSE. By endorsing N0vell SuSE, M$crosoft is trying to position itself to play a part in the OS revolution. Read the signs, M$soft knows that strategically it needs to be a part of Linux because Linux is gaining momentum - it's admitting defeat for M$soft.

Bottom Line: Users (the consumer) need to have a choice. Competition is what makes products better, it's time for better! Some will say V$sta is better, I say How would you know, if you don't have a choice!?

Thanks to (http://tinyurl.com/ynz3gj) and all others who have given us choice!!

Sincerely,
Shannon VanWagner

Linux with preinstalled free 2D/3D games - Build it and they will come!

Gaming, Linux submitted by shannon_vanwagner 04/20/07

I once read an article that said Linux is merely a hobbyists system because it doesn't have formal support from game developers.

So here's my idea:

Build a Dell Linux machine that already has the top free (open source) 2d/3d games installed and ready for the user to play.

BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!
This system would be totally attractive to young people everywhere... Imagine if you have a choice between buying a slimmed down M$soft W1ndows machine and having to fork out extra $$$ for games. Then on the other hand, imagine being offered a fully loaded Dell Linux machine with 3d games already installed (not trial versions)!! There's no comparison!!

There are a number of free 2d/3d games available for Linux, for instance:
America's Army
Nexuiz
Cube 2
Enemy Territory
Battle for Wesnoth
Neverball
...And many more!!!
Checkout these articles for more information:
http://tinyurl.com/2cwlbu
http://tinyurl.com/2mfd7h< I say sell Linux on Dell - with all the free software that's available, you can't go wrong!!
