Make PC 8500 RAM and Turbo RAM standard

Desktops and Laptops submitted by wallyhorse 3 days ago

This level of RAM (PC 8500, 1.067 GHz) is already being offered on Lenovo's new level of laptops, and is something Dell should also be looking at doing on ALL of its computers (as opposed to the current 800 MHz RAM for desktops and 667 MHz RAM for laptops).

In addition, Dell should also offer a Turbo RAM option (Lenovo also currently offer a 2GB Turbo RAM option) on all of its laptops. 2 Comments »

New Inspiron Mini Design

Inspiron products submitted by brokencrystal 2 days ago

I know it's too late for the first generation of the Mini Inspiron, but this idea is for the second generation.

Instead of having the mini look like this:

Could we please have the upcoming mini look like this:

The XPS and Studio notebooks look so much nicer than the leaked photos of the Inspiron Mini, so why not make the next version of the mini look like the XPS or Studio, just much smaller? Maybe you could make a higher end mini notebook called the XPS Mini or the Studio Mini for those of us who have to have top of the line in a small package? 10 Comments »

have a Dell "new and upcoming products/ideas" page

Dell Web Site submitted by luckeycat Aug 16

I think it would be convient if Dell had a page on thier site that was dedicated to new and upcoming products and ideas, that way people could actually see almost everything that will be upcoming/new, and ideas that Dell has. Then after all that, make the page easily accessible. 1 Comment »

Share the savings!

Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by luckeycat Aug 17

Ok so with Dell and other companies going green and using less packaging and cheaper materials saves not only the environment but the companies money as well, while they either keep the price the same, or up the pricing on these prodcts(sometimes, usually rarely but somtimes). So while they save the environment they also save money and take ours. So I think they should lower the price a little. Even if its just a little, to a mass company like dell that saves alot of money-but for them, not us...I also think the concept of going green is to save the environment, not take our money that they save... 2 Comments »

New LapTop

New Product Ideas, Laptops submitted by bunstero Aug 13

I would like to see Dell develop a new laptop that is comprable to a Mac that does not get viruses and is easily navigatable, but that is still a PC. I know that some think that there might be one already out there, but I use both as do many others in my field and I don't think so. I would like to stop having to go back and forth and be able to use one machine for personal and business. 9 Comments »

batteries

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support, Laptops submitted by nd86 Aug 11

Two things regarding batteries. First, if batteries in the laptops are planned to run out to keep us consuming them, then you should have them in stock. Essentially you have been out of stock of insiron batteries all summer. 3rd party reseller was the only alternative.

More importantly, you must allow your sales rep to answer customers honeslty when they are asking questions about battery availability. Reps avoid the in-stock/out of stock question, and instead answer "sometime in the next 30 days it will ship". A direct company should answer directly. 2 Comments »

Don't place mouse buttons on side of touchpad on Mini Inspiron

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Inspiron products, Laptops submitted by hollyberry Aug 9

On the HP 2133 Mini-Note the mouse buttons are on the side of the touchpad and it is very awkward and uncomfortable. I don't know if the buttons are like that on the Mini Inspiron or not but if they are please change it to the traditional mouse buttons under the touchpad. I realize it is space saving for small pcs like that and I also realize it may be too late to do anything about it on the first model, but maybe something can be changed about it on the next model. I'm sure the mouse buttons can be squeezed in there! 8 Comments »

Give us more Vista 64-bit options!

Operating Systems, XPS products submitted by qwik Aug 9

Come on, 4GB is a standard now and we need Vista 64-bit on all XPS desktops. Honestly, you should have them on every computer you make now. Yes, compatibilty is still a concern but I'm a hardcore gamer and everything works perfectly. Retailers are starting to stock 64-bit in a major way. Dell.com is behind and should catch up. 1 Comment »

Raid options on laptop

Desktops and Laptops submitted by tnitchov Jul 29

Offer the option of a dual-drive RAID mirror setup in laptops and desktops. I would like the added security of having a backup should one of the drives fail and I lose all my digital camera pix, tax returns, and other important files. This would allow me to accidentally lose a hard drive but not the data on it. Then I could burn everything to DVD, purchase another laptop hard drive and have Windows rebuild the data.

With the cost of hard drives these days (less than $100 for 500gb) you have to wonder why people ARE NOT doing it on all their systems. Comment »

Mini Desktops Need Better Specs!

Desktops, Gaming, Linux submitted by aikiwolfie Jul 29

Okay! 5400RPM hard drives on a desktop? Intel only video? Such a shame. The mini Studio Hybrid desktops look pretty cool! But the specs are going to let people down. Plug a TV tuner into one of those USB ports and you have the perfect PVR. It even has HDMI!

Does Dell deliberately set out to get us excited and then disappoint? You're always stopping short! Upgrade these ridiculous specs! And consign the Celeron CPU range to history where it belongs!

It wouldn't hurt to give us a Ubuntu option would it? 7 Comments »

Internal storage/ports

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by daewootech Jul 28

I think like a internal storage tray would be cool, like something to the sides of the touchpad that you could pop up and stuck things like money or a usb key other small items, also could be a nice hidden spot for internal connections like a micro usb reciever for the logitech mice or other small usb devices so you can have they plugged in all the time and not worry about breaking the usb port or key.

Try to push Adobe to fix their Flash Player.

Linux, Service and Support, Desktops and Laptops submitted by linux-user Jul 25 **UNDER REVIEW**

I know it hasn't much to do with Dell, but Dell has been busy to improve drivers for Linux by working in cooperation with developers like Ati, so let's give this idea a try:

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 on all of my PCs and my laptop and it's a great operating system, but there's one thing I hate: Adobe's slow development of their Flash-plugin for Linux. Some bugs are in their plugin for years now, but it looks like Adobe doesn't want to fix them.

Some examples:
1) Menu's dissapearing behind Flash-object. For an example go to the website of ASUS:
http://www.asus.com/index.aspx
Move the cursor to "Products" and see the menu dissapear behind the Flash-object.

2) Impossible to scroll when the cursor is on top of a Flash-object. When you move you're mouse to a Flash-object, you can't scroll. You first have to move your mouse away from the Flash-object to be able to scroll.

3) Transparancy won't work. When a Flash-object is using transparancy, you will see a white background, in stead of the underlying objects.

4) Sometimes Flash Player let's FireFox crash to the desktop. For example when watching videos at YouTube. After watching a couple of movies, FireFox crashes.

I've got these troubles on all of my PC's and my laptop, different versions of FireFox and different versions of Ubuntu. I hear a lot of people complaining about these problems, but it doesn't seem like Adobe wants to fix these problems. Maybe Dell can do something. I know it's not Dell's task to fix these problems, but they've worked with other developers to get better support for Linux and look at the big improvement Ati made in the last year (although I don't know how much Dell has to do with it).

studio and xps should be changed!!!

Laptops submitted by bonymjose Jul 25

dell,
can't u put centrino 2 platform to studio and xps line???? .
studio 15 needed to have a better graphic card!! gddr3 should be used instead of ddr2 for graphics in studio.

also why are u not upgrading xps line with growing trends??

also can't u upgrade your graphics cards on xps 1530 ????
and put an additional options like backlit keyboard or something?? Also more powerful ddr3 rams??

consider implementing these changes to other countries as well when they are implemented!! usually it takes many months to travel these changes to other countires!! why are u putting these delays and some options already present like full hd display (19200 x 1080) on xps 1530 and studio 15 in some countries!! why are u not considering other countries????

thanku!! 1 Comment »

RFID Embedded in Laptops from Dell

Laptops submitted by dcollins Jul 22

Embed a common - maybe more than one type - or type specified at time of purchase - RFID in your laptops. Security is becomming a real issue for laptops and companies would appreciate if your laptops came with RFID's built in. This way it would be easy to track the systems in the building and who took what out or into the building with RFID based security systems. 3 Comments »

new xps 17in sound quality

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), XPS products submitted by dondadah88 Jul 20

oh this is my first post so be easy on me.
i think the the m1730 now is perfect. i want to buy one but since the new intel and nvidia chips are out i'll wait for dell to come out with these.
(i have never seen or held the latop before so i'm threw stuff out there before i buy lol
but some features i can see added at a

i would add a subwoofer but placing it is a different story. maybe the front would sound the best but the m1730 has beatiful buttons there i think the front bottom and put some air pockets at the front so us deep end lovers can feel some air coming out(but not a lot because we know it's a laptop)

also some sound changes. if you add the bass i would make it a 3 way reflex system the front speakers play the tweeters on in the inside play mid. and the bottom bass

this would prevent sound quality loss in the system over time, and when it's closed you wont loss to much quality out of it either 7 Comments »
