HP gives me the helpful option of letting me choose not to deface my laptop with a Vista sticker. VISTA label Yes, they also give me the option of not getting Vista at all on that page (saving $75) but I think that's been pointed out in other ideas on ideastorm before. Dell: Please give us the option not to get a sticker - and, like HP, to make the systems without a Vista Basic Logo cheaper than ones with the ugly sticker. 12 Comments » Stop using Microsoft and Intel as crutches Dell submitted by ronsemail 02/17/07 Try innovating without Microsoft or Intel as your R&D lab. Go hire and staff a kick butt set of designers and engineers and pay them the better than anyone else. In fact pay all of your staff better than anyone else, in 3 years you will be the best brand in the business. Try spending some of your customers money on product development instead of putting it your bank account. 4 Comments » Give Dell employees better discounts so they can experience the customer experience Dell submitted by pwalker 02/02/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Dell employees tell me they don't get discounts on Dell products. It's time to give Dell employees good discounts so they will more frequently experience your customer experience. This is important. I believe motivating them to be Dell customers more frequently will generate a lot of ideas for improving dell.com, products and services. submitted by platinumriver 02/20/07
Offering a Windows only option might have been a good idea years ago, but now even Apple's Mac OS X runs on Intel hardware and Linux is certainly a great alternative. Linux, Operating Systems submitted by lenny 02/20/07 I will probably buy a Notebook this year - I guess this Spring - and I would prefer NOT to get Vista on that Notebook. I think, XP Pro does the Work just rigth and I am not the slighest interested in getting Vista with that Notebook, just to make M$ and/or Dell satisfied. Comment » Sell Linux PCs Worldwide - not only the United States Linux, Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by ergo 05/02/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**
Dell has now decided to sell computers with Linux pre-installed. GREAT MOVE! But for the moment, it only concerns the US... Here outside the US, we can't wait to buy a pre-installed Linux Dell PC! Please sell Linux PCs worldwide! External wifi antenna connector Broadband and Mobility, Laptops submitted by cromo 02/17/07 I came into this idea some time ago. The idea is simple - to put an external wifi connector on the back of the laptop and a button to switch between internal and external antennas. There are loads of different solutions for laptop users that need better signal reception for their wifi cards, most of them simply increase transmitting power (thus exposing us, the users to higher radiation) while all the problems could be easly solved by adding external connector and some some cheap and small external antenna. It would be nice to see such connector on the replicator port, too. Considering the forthcomming WiMax that will be mostly used by ISPs to provide internet connection I am sure such external antenna connector is even a must for the laptops that will come with integrated WiMax card. 6 Comments » Biodegradable Packing material Environment submitted by ewagnerjr2000 04/19/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
When I received my 32" lcd screen it had an extremely large amount of Styrofoam. Dell is working to be environmentally friendly, maybe they should consider a better packing material at least one that will biodegrade. Linux, Operating Systems, Software submitted by oposit 02/21/07
I think dell computers with Linux or without OS is a good idea, but the potential for a hit resides in Linux with Beryl. Dell executives cold miss a great oportunity if they didn't realize the sales that can be made only on Beryl eyecandy (or enhanced productivity, if you are business minded). I think it's telling of where Dell's priorities lay when most of your boxes has a sticker that says "Designed for Microsoft [XP or Windows or Vista]" on it. Wouldn't it be better if you designed your products for your customers first; and particular software vendors's agendas second? Provide a way to associate similar ideas/posts IdeaStorm submitted by hjwasson 04/26/07
There should be a way to associate many similar posts together. If you page through IdeaStorm, you will find clouds of posts regarding "Please don't kill the Axim," "Fix the search feature," etc. Dont force people to choose Windows Vista Operating Systems submitted by gaborlake 03/13/07 When buying a new Dell computer, Windows Vista is the only OS of choice. So far, with all I have seen about Vista, I would rather want to stick with XP, since Microsoft announced that it would support XP even longer than Vista. There is no real reason for having a computer with Vista installed at the moment. So it would be a good thing to still have the option to have Windows XP installed instead. 9 Comments » Service and Support submitted by onthemovefit 02/17/07
Dell used to have the best support, so good you advertised being the consumers choice. Now, at least for home based support, Dell's support is terrible. Business support still seems to do a good job. It's time for Dell to get back to basics. Make clear what Windows Vista costs Operating Systems submitted by rvw 02/21/07
We all know the retail prices of Windows Vista for the different versions, OEM, etc. I would like to see the price difference if I don't want a Vista license. This should be a discount of course, not something you have to pay for (what has happened in the past). This should be the normal OEM price, but probably Dell has a special discount from Microsoft, so the true costs for Dell could be less. I wouldn't mind if Dell used the OEM price. Although I don't think it would be a good idea to go overboard with preinstalled software, a few free and open source software (FOSS) programs would be nice. Having a large computer company such as Dell behind these products would really give open source the traction it needs to be widely accepted. Also, FOSS does not expire or require activation such as most of the software currently bundled with Dell computers. The currently bundled programs add no value whatsoever to the product and are actually a nuisance to most people. Open source would greatly improve the out of the box user experience. These are the programs I believe would ADD VALUE to Dell computers. Preinstall linux and offer windows in virtual machine (vmware player or xen) Linux, Operating Systems submitted by mahei 02/19/07
The first thing i always do is to kick the preinstalled windows of the hard disk, install my favorite flavor of linux and then reinstall windows in a virtual machine for the few tmes i really need it. Remove: "Dell recommends Windows Vista™..." from any publication Advertising and Marketing submitted by tho.meier 02/21/07
It would be nice to see advertising without any Micro$oft, from Dell. I think there is enough advertising for MS from MS it self. Dell Axim X51v Windows Mobile 6 UPGRADE Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by wickedlyslick 02/21/07 **REVIEWED**
