Dell should venture/partner strongly into Mobile/PDAs spectrum

Dell submitted by ranjith 02/13/07

Dell should venture or partner with strong allies in the Mobile phone and PDA market space. We are seeing a lot of personal computing and day-to-day activities getting converged into this segment. Modiles/PDAs have become the second self for people including the emerging markets. Comment »

Why not catch the new wave of IP Phones to add to your product lines?

New Product Ideas submitted by skypefone68 02/16/07

Dear Mr Dell,

I am the founder of IPFONES, a leading manufacturing company specializing in IP Phones devices.

As you probably have heard and seen, all the major brands are already fighting to catch onto next generations’ voice communications devices which will all be IP based.

Cisco and Apple is fighting for the name of IPHONE itself as both of them are realizing how important IP phoning will be the next hottest thing to do as the world is tearing down its borders.

Every company is looking to catch on to VOIP and trying to find a way to lure in the revenues that VOIP can bring from a service or from a hardware supplier.

Skype is the most successful at it and the growth has been most incredible.
We believe we have a good name that will take advantage of individuals, corporations wanting to change over their voice communications devices.

It's IPFONES... Pronounced IP :Phones...

Here is a video that tells you a bit of how we marketed ourselves till

http://www.ipfones.com/us/content/view/18/9/< do not have the marketing power nor the resources as CISCO does but we are definitely very confident our name will survive the test of time.

Here is an article that would give us confirmation of that:
http://www.slashphone.com/115/5962.html< cell phone manufacturer in the world is also moving toward making their cell phone VOIP enabled.

Right now, we know there are over 2 billion cell phones users year and that number can only exponentially grow as emerging continents are all un-tapped territories. Imagine every renewed cell phone alone will be IP Enabled... We certainly do hope it will be an ipfones.

I would like to suggest to you as Founder and visionary of DELL, to look into maybe having a division that would tap into this new opportunity.

I know you have just hired an Ex-Motorola Mobile Executive for your top global sales. What a serendipitous "god sent" decision for this IPFONES suggestion don't you think?

If you would have any thoughts to this letter, please do get back with me at the below contacts.

Sincerely and respectfully yours,

Thomas B.

Cell phone and computer bundle

Sales Strategies submitted by yoda 03/01/07

Why not have a Dell computer and an optional upsell on a cell phone? The convergence of the computer and cell phone is nearing so why not and be the first to bundle a cell phone and PC. 1 Comment »

Dell Tablet PC

Laptops submitted by gautam 02/16/07 **IMPLEMENTED**

The XPS and E series notebooks are great, but a move into making 12.1 and 14.1 inch tablet PC convertible notebooks would be fantastic. I can easily see the m1210 and the e1405 being ported to the tablet medium.
Check out what Glenn from the tablet team has to say about the Latitude XT.

Popular Ideas Should Not be The Default.

IdeaStorm submitted by sangelnet 03/01/07

The default page should be Recent Ideas and not Popular Ideas. People are seeing these ideas first and are getting these ridiculous points that no other idea is going to get, just for the fact that they are the first ones everyone sees.

Have recent ideas in the default page, and you'll see that those ideas with those gigantic numbers will top growing!!!! Comment »

Could Dell Own Green?

Environment submitted by adrian 02/01/07 **REVIEWED**

Environmental concern and sustainability are today real issues with consumers and voters in many of Dell's markets. It looks as if a genuine commitment to reducing carbon and cleaning up their footprint will become a more important factor for companies wanting to strengthen consumer loyalty in the coming years.

Dell has already made its environmental commitment clear. My suggestion is that this could become a hallmark of the company - why not make the products, literally, green? If Apple can own 'pretty' and IBM/Lenovo can own 'serious', why can't Dell own 'green'?
Dell continues to do a lot to support our environment like our Plant a Tree for Me program and other activities documented on our Environment blog on Direct2Dell. Click here for more details.

Design & Form Factor

Desktops and Laptops submitted by logi 02/16/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

This forum is a great idea to get Dell back to #1.

What I like to see is new and innovative styling across the board on notebooks and desktops. Dell's product line looks 5yrs old and needs a total refresh.

As you can see Apple Inc. is winning conumers hearts because Apple owners are actually proud of displaying them in the living rooms instead of hiding them. Get rid of that XPS desktop design that thing is so ugly.. and come up with something consumers would be proud of displying in their media rooms.

Also I would like to see Dell create a sleak new design for a media center box so we can utilize vista home for the entertainment room and display it next to my audio and video units.

Thanks for listening Mr. Dell.

Hope_l talks about how passionate we are about design in this thread. To read more about how this idea is being put into action click here.

New Dell Retail Store! Death to Mall Kiosks!

Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by evilspell 02/16/07

Dell should open a retail store very similar to the Apple store. I know that they have small kiosks inside malls that they try to sell Plasma TV's and a couple laptops next to a guy selling knock off sunglasses and verizon cell phone sales sharks! Very unprofessional. Open a classy Dell Store and offer Tech support right in the store just like the Genius Bar in the Apple Store. 144 Comments »

Convergent Device - GPS, MP3, Cell Phone, Camera, PDA, Satellite Radio

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies submitted by msexpert 02/24/07

We all carry a lot of different devices today, it would be great to have a convergent device that will include:

1. PDA with bluetooth and WiFi

2. GPS with built in antenna (not sticking out), voice activated, real time traffic thru MSN Direct or Satellite or RF

3. Cellphone with GSM and broadband internet connectivity, speakerphone and bluetooth

4. Audio/Video Player, with upgradeable firmware, so that you can install new codecs as they come out

5. 5Mpx still camera and camcorder

6. 30-60GB hard drive

7. Satellite Radio

If possible, no buttons, all operations are performed through touch screen or voice commands. No visible connectors for in car installation, except for tiny holes on the back of the unit to connect to car windshield connector.

Sell it through Telco's, or let Telco's buy your coupons. Telco's in their turn will give out coupons based on the length of the term the customer is willing to sign up for. I.e. $100 for 1 year, $200 for 2 years, $300 for 3 years. If your selling price is even $600, customers signing up for a 3 year contract will be happy to get this all-in-one device for $300. Reduce price even further if customer subscribes to a long term plan with XM/Sirius, and have it funded by these companies. Comment »

Smartphone

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.) submitted by gautam 02/16/07

The Dell Axim PDA is not super-popular, but I think if it moved into the SmartPhone realm (especially in order to compete with upcoming iPhone) then it could pick up some market-share and be a great device for US cell phone providers. 92 Comments »

All-in-one Slim PDA-phone with 5 MP Camera, GPS, 10 GB

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Broadband and Mobility submitted by subhasreddy 02/18/07

Why can't you combine a PDA-phone, Digital Camera, ipod, GPS into a single device?

You should make a slim cellphone-pda-camera that:

- has Quad Band GSM/CDMA Phone, Infrared, Blue tooth, WiFi
with 1 GHz processor.

- is as small and light as a small slider cell phone:

- can keep adequate charge for at least 16 hours of full use incl. all beams

- has a storage memory of 10 GB - HD/Flash, along with memory card slots.

- has a 5 MP high quality digital camera-camcorder built in, that can also work as a webcam

- has a full-fledged GPS system

Software issues:

- wake up alarm with a given song/playlist

- can access all websites and streaming media exactly like a pc

- can play all kinds of audio and video - a universal player

(I have a high-end HP iPaq that can't play streaming media, and many kinds of
audio-video files)

Built in VOIP Phone

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas submitted by alokjain 02/18/07

VOIP is becoming increasingly available and accepted it is a wave of future (if not of present already) .. point being it'll grow. Having a (small) detacheabel VOIP phone within the laptop and also a separate device should have good market.

The phone should work with WIFI as well as bluetooth (connecting to bluetooth enabled laptop/desktop). It could allow Video Chat, regular chat, and phone calls..

wireless skype phone

Broadband and Mobility, New Product Ideas submitted by anoble66 02/28/07

would be great if dell developed a 802.11 wireless skype phone, similar to what belkin and netgear have launched but make it cheaper. Even better would be a wireless skype phone with the ability to fall back on to a cellular network. Comment »

Offer a Cell Phone that Competes with the iPhone

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Broadband and Mobility submitted by dgs20904 02/17/07

The future of portable devices is in the development of an all-in-one electronic device that has a cell phone, camera, GPS, speaker phone, bluetooth, WiFi, MP3, email, word processing, spreadsheet, address book, SMS, and web browser. The cell phone should be able to support four bands, including the bands used outside the US that require external cards. It would be even better of the device supported Linux or BSD as its operating system so open source apps could run on it. The device should support at least 20 GB of hard disk space and enough RAM to run applications, pictures, and music. As the Apple iPhone is limited to Cingular users only, the market for an all-in-one electronic device is still wide open for Dell. 2 Comments »
