WHY DELL LOST MARKET SHARE !!

Dell submitted by jeetendra11 03/07/07

I Just wanted to Add some points here and tell Dell why it lost the market share and this is what i feel.

1.Compare the look and feel of Apple computers with Dell and HP Printers with DELL. Dell Should Invest in Innovating new products.

When i go to BUY anything today for the first time i am impressed with the looks, Dell Should INNOVATE new types of products, Compare APPLE Ipod, Does Dell have anything like that.
Compare HP Accessories and Printers and Dell Printers. if i am a new Customer Dell will not impress me in the first place.
I am not talking abt high end XPS stuff but other than XPS Line Series Dell Should concentrate more on product looks.

2. Dell Should not look for profit from Consumer customers.. Give them the best for their price. Quality should be highest priority, Should streamline the supply chain and improve all round product Quality, there are system's which are at Fault Out of box.

3.Make warrenty infomation more simpler.

Any thing that you act should be on one golden principle... " Todays solution should not be a cause of tomorrows problem"

Flagship Laptops

submitted by iano 03/03/07

How about some flagship high end impressive laptops with innovative features? OK, so the bread and butter may come from value for money products that can be a little staid, but why not a few 'funky but expensive' flagship products to help the brand image?

They need not sell in huge volume as long a the mags rave over them! 1 Comment »

a luxury laptop?

Dell, Service and Support submitted by vozome 03/03/07

I feel there is a need for a very high-end product line, especially for laptops.
In the recent years, the laptop prices have collapsed, and now one can get a fine machine for a mere $1,000. In Dell's business model, prices are closely related to the components that the user has chosen for their machine, so the most expensive machines (such as a supercharged XPS M1710 or an Aurora mALX, both in the $5-6000 range) are the most powerful and feature rich. And both are marketed as gaming PCs.
Yet, there are quite a few people out there who wouldn't mind spending $5 or 10,000 on a laptop, if they felt it was worth the price. A prestigious, exclusive machine, made of the finest materials, designed by visionary artists and with perfect ergonomy, and packed with services such as unlimited assistance or overnight service. That would be the kind of machine with which one could make a statement. 1 Comment »

Dell Needs to Make a Porche

submitted by sa7078 03/02/07

I should start by saying I'm total Dell loyalist and have bought a new Dell system every three years or so since my Dell 486 DX2 50 from 1993. I'm an intermediate user who tends to focus on internet and power gaming. I definately am ready to upgrade to a core 2 duo or quad but i'm really put off by the price and size of the xps 700 series. I'm sure they're terrific for the users looking for the PC SUV, with lots of expandiablility and plenty of slots. I'd love a PC Porche alternative. Small, quiet, fewer slots and bays but all the power. The latest graphics cards, vista, big watt power supply, etc, 1 Comment »

Divide this forum into separate hardware and OS request areas!

IdeaStorm submitted by kyliemanders 03/02/07

Divide this forum into separate hardware and OS areas. I can appreciate that the open source folks are looking to get their voices heard but lets put the OS requests in a completely separate area from hardware.

If would be very efficient to cruise through the ideastorm ideas without reading things I am not interested in - in my case Open Source offerings. (ps - I love my Vista Ultimate and am not a MS employee!). I live and work with Dell's and have no intention of changing. 2 Comments »

To make good ouside shape and thin laptops

submitted by yenct 03/02/07

I don't like the outside shape of latest Dell's Laptops at all (except Latitude D620), and I don't like thick laptop at all. Dell's laptops look too thick and ugly in shape design. I still like the shape of Dell's old model like Latitude D600.

I think the outside shape, weight (compared with the same screen size of laptops from other brands) and thickness (height) are the three most important things for me to choose a laptop if the performance between laptops is similar. Especially for Asia buyers like Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese etc., many buyers from Asia don't like the laptop with bad, ugly or heavy looked like design.

Lenovo T60 is only 1.0~1.2 inches in height (LCD 14") and HP's NC6400 is only 1.1 inches in height (LCD 14").

I hope Dell can make good shape in design and good look Laptops. Comment »

Allow ideas that management doesn't want to hear

IdeaStorm submitted by slashdot 03/01/07

I believe IdeaStorm would be much more effective if Dell didn't censor suggestions and comments that Dell management disapproves of. 6 Comments »

Blue Balling Isn't Cool

Servers and Storage submitted by exzen 03/01/07

Dell

You had a very good idea with www.dellideastorm.com. You knew that your company needed an injection of fresh ideas, and you recognized that there is an audience willing to tell you exactly what it wants.

However, as of late it seems more and more like you've missed the point of having a site like this. You can call it 'merging' or 'cleaning' or whatever, but in the end it still just censorship with a nicer title. What is the point of opening up a public forum for ideas if you're going to censor those which offer criticism or dissent? You should learn from the criticism, and see what you can do to improve from it.

Also, the superficial reasoning behind the dismissing of the pre-loaded linux idea is alarming. Even more alarming is that this followed a previous announcement of yours which made it sound like you supported of pre-loaded linux, and were seriously considering it. What gives with the big tease act?

You shot yourself in the foot Dell, I wonder if you're even going to try anything to regain some of the legitimacy you've lost.

Proper laptop chasis

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by lynz 03/01/07

As by far, using primarly linux, i see Dell as one of the best hardware providers, at most in terms of quantity of problems with their HW.

But what really disappoints me - is the design and quality of laptop chasis. I have now an Latitude D620. And why am I able to pull the monitor panel 1 cm towards me? Very poor plastic quality and simplistic design is disappointing.

Please consider making laptops in IBM like, nice , tight and expensive chasis. That would make me to Dell addict. But now I still want an IBM Thinkpad, but not the one made by Lenovo =) Maybe Dell could do my next Dream-machine?

Best Regards,

Things that make you go hmmm...

Gaming, Service and Support submitted by nystylin74 03/01/07

All I have to say is that my buddy bought a gaming computer from Dell and can't run any of the Battlefield series and a bunch of other games. He's called tech support 2 times and they came up with the same results. So they said that they would send him a new video card. Well they never did. SO I called back pretending to be him and I went through the same 3 hr processes to come to the conclusion the other 2 techs came to. So he says that they will send a new video card and to send the old one back in the same packaging. He never got that one either. So according to Dell he has 3 new video cards. Now I ask everyone this... First of all in this day and age of computer technology. Why did we have to go through the same exact 3 hr processes of troubleshooting the same crap. Don't other tech support guys put notes by your account about your calls and what has been done? And why do we praise dell if the promise and never deliver? In this case the video cards... And another thing... Don't people pay for 1 yr in home support when you buy a brand new PC from this company? Why has there not been any attempt to fix his pc and make him a happy customer? I'll tell you what! DELL LISTEN TO ME HE WILL NOT BE PAYING HIS BILL TILL YOU FIX HIS PC. If he didn't pay his bill every month you guys would be calling him to the legal limits of the FDCPA to get your money. Now why is it that your not doing your part?
Now lets get to the root of this post. I've read that Dell has been censoring their blog post here so that customers don't read the other customers bad posts about this company. Well. if your going to use the excuse that they were cursing and saying offencive things that could not be posted on a companies public post. So here it is no cursing slander or racist remarks. But I bet that you not going to let this post hit your forum. But guess what...?!?!?!? I will copy and save this post and if I see that your censoring it I will post it 100 times a day if I have to till it gets seen. If you ban me I will get a new e-mail address that I'll never use again and re-post 100 times a day till your It's get sick of seeing this post and deleting it. I'll make them spend all of their paid by you time to deal with me. Go ahead ban me and I'll keep coming back. Like a bad hemroid. So what's it going to be????? 3 Comments »

Popular Ideas Should Not be The Default.

IdeaStorm submitted by sangelnet 03/01/07

The default page should be Recent Ideas and not Popular Ideas. People are seeing these ideas first and are getting these ridiculous points that no other idea is going to get, just for the fact that they are the first ones everyone sees.

Have recent ideas in the default page, and you'll see that those ideas with those gigantic numbers will top growing!!!! Comment »

Better looks and the ability to buy Dell and Alienware locally.

Sales Strategies submitted by akiba 03/01/07

Design has been a failure for most of the PC manufactures. Alienware got it right but they don't offer very much for the average budget. Mac has a nice style that does not apeal to everyone so I would look to your own guys at Alienware for case designs etc and not Appple.

The Alienware machines are soo much more impressive in person then on the web. Even Dell's look and feel better than a website can portray them. I'm buying a Dell or Alienware notebook as a secondary machine. The only reaons I chose elsewhere for my primary machines is becaue I am an impulsive shopper who like to see what he's investing in and recieve it right away. Overall I think the XPS M1210 is very attractive design and configuration. I would like to more compact notebooks (12 to 14" monitors)with decent graphics cards.

As far as Linux goes just be mindfull that it was an organized effort that brought so many supporters here and not a primary concern of all of your existing and potential customers. I'm not saying a choice would be bad. Comment »

Sales Strategies submitted by vishnumrao 03/01/07

How about sellling Dell products at stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples, Frys etc and also on online stores like newegg, buy.com etc.

I would like to see them there as it would give me a first hand feel of how my desktop or notebook will look like. 4 Comments »

Dell Spirit!

Sales Strategies submitted by captainsensible 02/28/07

In the old days Dell used to give out a birth certificate with every Dell system, like having a geek cabbage patch doll or something. Dell should include something like this, along with a tshirt, coffee cup, bumper sticker, keychain, and anything else that users could show off their new system with! We need spirit! 10 Comments »

XPS LINE MUST BEAT BOUTIQUE PC

XPS products submitted by junduv 02/27/07

Dell is a world leader in the pc industry, so why not give a fresh look to the xps line? Design is one of the most important and relevant aspect to take in account when buying a new pc. This does not only allows a great attention to new or existing customers, but also improve system performance as well. I think that the xps line desktop and/or laptop is now completing the product life cycle and need to be redesign thoroughly. Dell also need to be more competitive with those boutique pc vendors such as Velocity, Alienware, among others which always offer cutting edge technology.

Why buy a Dell if there are better products

Desktops and Laptops submitted by h2ram 02/26/07

Why don't they build a computer like a Mac. The Imac is a one piece computer. What an idea, it requires less space and is a flat panel PC. It uses less energy too. Why do they build a Mac that looks better, designed smaller, and operates smoothly? When will Dell make an all in one Machine like Apple? I have a Dell for work and it is slow and struggles to do the work needed. We have docking stations. Why not create an all in one PC with a cover to take it to work or something?? Why have a docking station when you can have a PC that has a big screen and compact size? My work PC is stupid and wasting the LCD and CRT material and energy. Most laptops travel 20% of the time. Why not go big like Apple?? Wouldn't it better to sell millions of $2000 machines instead of $500 junk?? Building a higher quality machine with a superior OS and design might, maybe, make a lot more money and sense. If you like losing money and market share keep up the good work. Selling cheaper won't make more money ask Ford Motor Company about their cheap seller the Ford Fusion.

Good luck, the Dell image is now burning laptops with poor quality and service, the fires are free.

Note I have bought 2 Dell systems, One Compaq laptop and an IMac for my home and office use. The Mac saved my marriage and reduced the stress of poor OS from Microsoft. Sorry I won't come back to Dell until they can make a better product. You will never convince my wife, she called the older dell, Satan, don't ask.

Good Luck with the old paradigm of cheap computers and OS. 2 Comments »

15" XPS Laptop

XPS products submitted by nosintake 02/21/07 **PARTIALLY IMPLEMENTED**

I think there should be a 15" XPS laptop. There are plenty of companies that have a 15" "gaming laptop". I think there should be a Dell XPS with a rotating camera, 1GB RAM, Blu-Ray player, and 80GB hard drive standard.

Make pricing simpler

Advertising and Marketing, Dell Web Site, Simplify IT submitted by girishc 02/26/07

Hi,

Currently before buying DELL products, we need to research on a lot of forums for available coupons that can be used to make the price lower. You settle down on one price and buy the product, you find another coupon that offers a better discount. Why all this mess? Make pricing simpler..

Thx,

- Girish. Comment »

affordable laptop

Education, Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by finder9 02/26/07

I suggest that dell create a laptop that is targeted towards elementary and middle schools.I would produce it in large amounts, as it could perhaps even be taken to and from school with the children and used at their houses. It would have to be fairly durable, as it woould be taking a lot of wear and tear, but it would not have to have a large screen, much memory (20 GB would be fine for most) and could run a version of Linux. It could be sold to the school systems in large quantitys and could be quite similar to the One Laptop Per Child program Comment »
