printer and laptop in one

Printers and Ink, Laptops submitted by buttafuco 06/26/07

it would be so cool if you could print something without having to carry a separate, bulky printer, just your laptop. or instead of having to find a kinkos or hotel business center where they will charge you $.50 a page or something crazy. i think the technology is small enough that it could be incorporated into the bottom of the laptop as an option for people on the go. Dell could either make it like a battery that you can pop out and put a paper thru and bluetooth send from your computer or where the printer is actually part of the laptop like a bottom layer.

if you demote - explain why please. bad idea? not feasible? wouldn't buy it? duplicate? 23 Comments »

Power Supply with multiple connectors for a meeting room.

New Product Ideas submitted by nickhodges 12/19/07

Many times, my company will hold a meeting, and there will be seven or eight of us sitting there, all with our laptops, and all of us with our own power supplies that we have to carry into the room.

How about a "Meeting room power supply"? It would be a a "brick" that could sit on the top of the desk and could have 8-10 cords coming out of it for many people to use. That way, we wouldn't have to hump our power supplies with us to meetings. 8 Comments »

Add a 'Graphics' Category, here, please.

IdeaStorm submitted by bretta 12/20/07

Graphics are critical in today's environment in many of most areas, but you have no 'Graphics' Category!?! This is needed.

You have categories for gaming and monitors and displays, but none for the underlying technology? What's with *that*? Please add 'Graphics', for I have many comments waiting that will otherwise get lost, it seems. These include several issues related to cards (form factor, bus, etc.), long range needs for corporate, medical and modeling clients, support issues and more.

And please don't tell me to put comments under 'gaming' or some of your large corporate clients will be appalled - many of us care immensely about high-end graphics and couldn't care less about gaming apps - it's night and day regarding buying habits and more. 3 Comments »

Whats so Bad about AMD?

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Dell Web Site submitted by dannyboy91 12/20/07

(This is my first post so ah... please be nice haha)

I have been looking for a new system lately and have noticed that there is now a total lack of AMD chipsets across most manufacturers. I came across the "Dell™ Inspiron™ 531s" with a AMD athlon 64 bit. but when going to custermize it, it comes up with only intel chips.

Now I always found AMD to be a great choice in both cost and productivity but now i find myself unable to find a prebuilt system supporting it which suits my requirements.

From the forumsi have been reading i have found that AMD is not the "lesser" of the two but in fact quiet similar and in almost all cases cheaper for the same.

now surely customers would rather buy the cheaper of the two same Products..
Not really sure what is supposed to happen but i am hoping that someone could tell me why we are paying more for the same thing. ..

Dell Should Make a XPS M1410

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Monitors and Displays, XPS products submitted by cyborganizer 03/05/07

Dell should make a 14.1" model of the XPS 1210. It should have a better graphics card (around the the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS range). The Glossy 1440x900 display and the camera that rotates 180 degrees are also important. 8 Comments »

No discounts, just low prices! (consumer products)

Sales Strategies submitted by mistern 05/19/07

Warning first: I'm talking about the consumer segment only.

Don't provide any discounts at all. Just low prices. Discounts are a source of frustration when they don't apply, and if they apply to everybody, they're a lie. 2 Comments »

Refine Dell Computer Styling to be More Like Motorola Phones

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Desktops and Laptops submitted by skylarkguy 05/22/07

The 90's are over, but the average new Dell computer looks like the Dell I bought in 1996. The new Motorola RAZR2 is sweet: http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/razr2/experience/default.asp< want that phone just because it looks cool. Why can't Dell incorporate similar styling to laptops and desktops? Think about these features: Sleek aluminum/stainless steel keyboards, hidden speakers, webcams and integrated bluetooth on every computer, stainless steel parts... feel free to add your own suggestions below. 4 Comments »

PCs With Embedded Internet Capability

Broadband and Mobility submitted by bogdano2 05/18/07

When my hard drive crashed my Dell was unusable for days while I awaited replacement.

I kept thinking that if only I could just browse the Internet from my machine, I wouldn't feel so trapped.

I have seen many devices with embeded Internet capability including phones; adding this baseline functionality is certainly within Dell's capabilities...

We would never accept a cell phone that occasionally did not boot; in fact all PCs could provide baseline Internet Phone (VOIP) capability and notebooks could provide baseline cell phone capability; all available without a wokring hard drive!

Benefits to all of us include:
- No media to carry EVER!
- Perpetually useful device (as opposed to the doorstop a PC becomes when you cant boot to the traditionally installed OS's).
- A hybrid device that could be used as a phone, media player, or any service that all cell phone companies already provide.
- A truly serviceable device that Dell could fix remotely without making me part of the troubleshooting process !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I think I could have had better luck with my Dell technician as I went through the troubleshooting process if I had had Internet capability. After all, only my hard drive had failed, my network card, video, etc. were still functional.

I won't go into the OS re-install hell that I had to go through after the replacement drive arrived but again, with embedded Internet access, I think much could be done by Dell to improve even this aspect... 46 Comments »

Home Computers for Video Editors (and other Creative Content Producers)

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), New Product Ideas submitted by hotuan87 05/18/07

Right now, most of your higher end systems are geared toward gamers or the so called "digital media" life for the stylish digital consumer.

For those of us who like to CREATE (music, videos, etc.) with high end video editing software or sound studio software, I've yet to see a full, comprehensive computer package designed for us (ESPECIALLY in the laptop market). The people I speak of tend to be artsier people in high school or college.

People don't just want to CONSUME media, they want to MAKE it. In a world where YouTube and digital content CREATION are becoming wildly popular, Apple has Dell beat in marketing to this crowd of would be artists and producers.

Give us media editing computers that are stylish, powerful, portable, and equipped with a variety of creative suite applications such as Adobe Premiere for video enthusiasts or the thousands of other creative software packages in the Adobe lineup.

It would also be nice to have a full sized IEEE 1394 port (cables to connect the mini IEEE1394 port to the mini IEEE1394 on a camcorder are hard to find and more expensive). If you want to know what I'm talking about, look at any Mac, and you'll notice they always have full sized, not mini, IEEE1394 ports for the convenience of video editors.

Create an expandable laptop

New Product Ideas, Laptops submitted by tnitchov 05/18/07

Create a laptop similar to my old Dell Inspiron 4150 with an expandable bay. It had 2 "drive bays" one of which was used for the battery. I could add a 2nd battery into the 2nd slot for additional runtime. I could even swap out a floppy, cdrom or DVD into that 2nd slot.

In addition, come out with adapters that fit in the slot but contain the following components :

- additional hard drives
- a media slot with IEEE1394
- a 2nd video card

Give the user the option to take out a DVD drive to decrease weight, but also the option to add features in the future.

Dell used to have it in older systems but stopped producing them. Now Lenovo has their Thinkpads equipped with the Ultrabay which "almost" does this. 2 Comments »

Region free DVD drive option for laptops/notebooks.

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Service and Support, Laptops submitted by benjesuit 05/22/07

For those of us who travel and have overseas friends and family, the option to have a region free DVD drive would be a great plus when it comes to renting or borrowing DVD's from other regions. 15 Comments »

Service and Support submitted by dell_admin1 05/18/07

We're considering providing customers the ability to self-select their service queue based on their own technical capability, such as "Advanced Computer Knowledge," "Intermediate," or "Beginner," further customizing the support experience.

I know this is an old idea, but I still would like to buy one. I would like to see a laptop with three built in Monitors.

Monitors and Displays, Laptops submitted by jakerivers 05/24/07

I know this is an old idea, but I still would like to buy one. I would like to see a laptop with three built in Monitors. The two side monitors would fold out from the center monitor. In a way similar to what sidecar has, only with built in monitors. I first herd of the idea from philo in 04. http://discuss.fogcreek.com/joelonsoftware4/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=13867...< closest I have seen is the

http://www.digitaltigers.com/sidecar.shtml< cold score big with a multi screen laptop.
