Explaine why Dell recommends Windows Vista® ?

Dell Web Site, Education, Operating Systems submitted by yesmathew Mar 12

I saw many idea related to "Dell recommends Windows". Here is one more. Based on Home user or Business user, Dell website recommends either Vista® Home Premium or Vista® Business. Explain why?

So the idea is to educate user, why Dell recommends Windows Vista? Is there any page explaining why Dell recommends Windows Vista? hyper linked to heading "Dell recommends Windows Vista®".

Otherwise does not make any sense to just display "Dell recommends Windows Vista"! 28 Comments »

Measure Green

Dell, Environment submitted by yesmathew 09/26/07

How does Dell measure Green?

Forbes.com: Measuring Green
by Andy Greenberg,

Innovators in the green information-technology movement reap good publicity from their ever-higher standards of energy efficiency. The real goody two-shoes, however, inflict those standards on their competitors.

So Dell should do something in this direction too...
- where Dell can talk about their contributions to green
- where Dell vendor can talk about their contributions to green
- where Dell customer can talk about their contributions to green
- ... ?

How an existing windows customer migrate to or install Ubuntu?

Linux, Operating Systems submitted by yesmathew 08/26/07

As Dell also pre-installs Ubuntu on selected Notebooks and Desktops. As most of the Dell computers are Ubuntu friendly. Many existing Dell users would like to switch to or try Ubuntu Linux, a Dell web site or wiki dedicated on this subject will encourage to try a better and safer free operating system to those who do not want to dump their computers for new non-free operating system. Help reduce e-waste. Save Planet.

Remember:
- "Windows viruses” are not computer viruses.
- "Windows bugs” are not computer bugs.
- "Windows blue screen deaths” are not computer blue screen deaths.
- "Windows performance issues" are not computer performance issues. 27 Comments »

Dell Web Site should be 100% W3C compliant

Dell Web Site submitted by yesmathew 08/12/07

Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international consortium where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards. W3C's mission is:

To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web.

W3C primarily pursues its mission through the creation of Web standards and guidelines. Since 1994, W3C has published more than ninety such standards, called
W3C Recommendations.

As Dell hardwares are OS independent, Dell Web Site should be 100% W3C compliant. To validate your site please proceed to http://validator.w3.org/ and make it 100% compliant. Also consider validating your CSS style sheet at http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

Shop Dell PCs with Linux. Require more visibility!

Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by yesmathew 06/01/07

More visibility required for "Shop Dell PCs with Linux" while shopping Windows PCs!

Checked this morning at USA > Home & Home Office. Very less to no visibility on selling Linux based PCs. Unless one accidentally lands at Linux page.

Request to add links on all Windows based PC pages saying " Shop Dell PCs with Linux* "

Take user to the next level of computing...

Education, Service and Support submitted by yesmathew 03/05/07

Why Dell do not help user to aware of better freely available solutions? Even if they know following are the better free alternates.

- Firefox web browser (www.getfirefox.com)
- openoffice office suite (www.openoffice.org)
- Ubuntu operating system (www.ubuntu.com)

This is the right time for you to regain respect and trust. Return back to user. Take user to the next level of computing.

Dell should become a good guide for us, who should help us to find the best and safe alternate solutions at less price. They can, as they ship new computers their research team can search for the best free alternate solutions and include them. So that user can give try. Dell should be a leader in this area.

Another way: Educate user.
Dell should include a 4 - 8 pager magazine with every machine they ship. Which should include free and opensource alternate solutions plus ads. 6 Comments »
