Outsourcing, Philippines is the way to go! submitted by daryldeal 11/11/07 Hey Dell, im just wondering when are you guys gonna expand your customer and tech support services in the Philippines? i mean, to say it frankly, i'd rather talk to a neutral accent'd filipino that would work with you to resolve a problem than a thick indian accent'd Indian that would speak like a machine gun that would rush the resolution in your concern. 13 Comments » submitted by bubuasb 11/12/07 **NOT LIKELY** Dell should create its own operating sistem like Apple 47 Comments » Dell Community, Service and Support submitted by haler 11/12/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
My step-son is leaving for Iraq in January. His mom can't afford a laptop for him and neither can I, but I thought it could be done if everyone in the family could contribute via a site, then when there was enough, you could ship him a laptop! Make XP/Linux drivers available for all model even if only Vista is pre-installed Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Linux, Operating Systems submitted by vineets001 09/24/07 **REVIEWED**
There are good hardware models coming out. And only Vista is pre-install option. If people want to wipe off Vista and install XP or Linux, let them do that. Make a commitment to have the drivers available. Advertising and Marketing submitted by dwood 11/10/07
I think the ad was hilarious. I would Love to see more of them. Linux, Operating Systems, Sales Strategies submitted by xivulon 09/26/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
There are several proposals that basically ask the same thing: SHOW UBUNTU IN THE LIST OF OPERATING SYSTEM ON ALL MACHINES [subtract $50]. And why not, add XP to the list as well. There are also many more proposals that would be made redundant IF the above was implemented. If you add them all together that is probably the most requested feature at the moment. Yes I think many of the ideas below can be merged. Make a calendar with all COMING SOON and IN PROGRESS ideas Advertising and Marketing, IdeaStorm submitted by krasmussen 09/22/07 **REVIEWED**
One of the biggest annoyances with IdeaStorm is that the horizon for an idea being implemented is very blurry, if at all existing. If you're lucky, you get "third quarter 2009", but mostly, there is no timeframe at all. This leads to the feeling that not much is being done, and exactly that feeling is what IdeaStorm should be eliminating. Tell us what WiFi chipset a laptop has. Broadband and Mobility, Dell Web Site, Linux, Laptops submitted by tonyb2006 08/29/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Tell us the WiFi chipset used in a laptop before we buy it so we know if the WiFi chipset supports a feature we want, or if it supports Linux or another operating system that we intend to use. The WiFi chipset being like "Intel ipw2200" or "Broadcom BCM4306", or "Ralink rt2500". Make Linux and no Operating system standard options on all future products Operating Systems submitted by jervis961 08/17/07 **REVIEWED**
OK Dell you have committed to supplying Linux options in limited form. Since you have laid the groundwork already here is the next step. Every new product you release that needs an Operating system should have Linux and also no Operating System as an option in the configuration along side Windows. Since you have to write drivers and test compatability for Vista when making a new product just make it compatable with Linux at the same time. There will no longer be a need for a seperate sections for Linux or no Operating system since all of the products will have the option. this will help make your site easier to navigate for you customers. You can also create an ACCURATE help me choose section for the OS choices. Stop Overcharging on Notebook RAM Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by realskript 08/28/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Dell really... REALLY need to stop overcharging... and when i say overcharing... i mean atleast double what you would pay to pick up the ram yourself. Easier way to OPT OUT of Dell selling my private information Advertising and Marketing submitted by ninefoot3 10/17/07 **IN PROGRESS**
I rec'd a brochure yesterday saying Dell and DFS were going to share my private info with other 3rd party companies for marketing purposes. Well, it said that in about 5,000 words or so. At the end is a box stating that I may opt-out of this by calling the number listed or writing a letter (including certain info) and send it to the listed address. Linux Hardware Compatibility List Dell Web Site, Linux submitted by s3indiana 02/20/07 **IN PROGRESS**
Create a listing of Dell hardware that's compatible with the major Linux distributions (Fedora, OpenSuse, ubuntu, Freespire) providing compatibility with not just systems (desktops and laptops) but include peripherals (printers, camera's, flash drives, compatible routers, etc.). Include levels of compatibility so the reviewer can make an educated choice. This would provide the greatest assistance for those looking at alternatives... Standardize Power Cables for Laptops Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Laptops submitted by badblood 08/27/07 **UNDER REVIEW**
Nothing is more annoying than laptop power cables that are not interchangeable from one computer model to another or from one brand of computer to another. Power cables have been standardized on most electrical applicances, including desktop computers for decades. There should be an option of having no trialware on all computers Software submitted by jervis961 08/23/07 **REVIEWED**
Here is a news article about trialware and how Dell feels that regular customers want it but small business ones do. Do they not look at the ideas here? Dell should use silver-zinc batteries: safer, longer-lasting and can be recycled Environment, Laptop Power submitted by jervis961 03/31/07
"Zinc Matrix Power rechargeable batteries deliver up to twice the runtime of traditional Li-ion batteries. They also have an aqueous chemistry that is not flammable or toxic. As a result of the inherent safety, silver-zinc batteries are not subject to airline restrictions. Furthermore, the key components of silver-zinc battery technology can be 100% recycled and reused, making it an environmentally conscious alternative to many existing battery technologies." Let the Earth charge portable electronics Environment submitted by notsofast 08/02/07 Wouldn't it be nice if devices could charge themselves simply by moving through the earth's magnetic field? That would be perfect for mobile devices. 6 Comments » Offer the Vostro 1700 with one flash SSD and one conventional hard drive Dell, Vostro products submitted by markvs624 08/12/07 Being the only dual hard drive notebook in Dell's lineup, the Vostro 1700 has potential. Please offer the Vostro 1700 with the currently available 32GB SSD drive as a system drive and a conventional 7200rpm 250GB hard drive as a data drive. Obviously, it would be best to offer all available SSD's and conventional hard drives for each bay to give the user maximum control over the system's components, but at least make an SSD available in the primary drive bay. Also, dual drive configurations would be welcomed on any model in which they can be accommodated, especially all of the 17 inch models. 7 Comments » Universal Notebook Power Adapter Laptops, Laptop Power submitted by slateslate 08/24/07
