We are consistently being messaged to conserve enregy, by unplugging all electrical appliances when not in use. Surf the net while you workout! Environment submitted by jacqsj14 Jun 30 I work at the YMCA where people spend hours going now where on treadmills. Humans are generating lots of energy going now where on bikes, elliptical machines, treadmills etc. Develop a bike/treadmill that generates enough power to run a computer on board so people can surf the net while they workout or email clients etc. The epitomy of multi-tasking! Even better the power generated can be used to run all the computers in a gym facility. 3 Comments » Yellow Pages on every corner for directions Environment, New Product Ideas submitted by tammylhoward Jun 30 Cut out the printing of the yellow page book and make a electric book on the corner of the street for directions and locations of stores, gas station, and ect. This would also help with triffic and weather. This would be like a phone booth. 3 Comments » Make Physical Manuals An Option Environment, Service and Support submitted by joyscant1980 Jun 25
This is not my idea, it was mentioned by roguent in "No more plastic wrap, please" on June 12. Where I disagree with the idea of no manuals, I do agree that if you do not want to receive the physical manual, you should not have to. Make the Dell E a model 'Green Computer' Environment submitted by badblood Jun 24
Can Dell make the 'Dell E' from recycled plastics, can it avoid many of the nasty metals and chemicals that go into making bad computers. Can Dell package the Dell E in less materials, will that material be recycled..? HHO Fuel Cell ... Develop One Please! Environment, New Product Ideas submitted by aikiwolfie Jun 22

Air conditioned offices/computer rooms unnecessarily recool hot air exhaled by computers. Advertise your Linux boxes as "Green" Advertising and Marketing, Environment, Linux submitted by jmxz Jun 9 Network World has an interesting article here " tests show that Red Hat Linux pulls as much as 12% less power than Windows 2008 on identical hardware" With all the media excitement surrounding Green and Environmental issues, you could advertise how Green Dell is even in it's software selections. If Dell ships 50_000_000 computers per year, and these computers live an average of 4 years each , and each computer uses 100W, it seems Dell could save the world
which is a number too big for me to count. Is that 21 Tera-watt-hours? Even if my math's off by 10000 Dell could save many giga-watt-hours. And that's only one year's production. 3 Comments » Laptop Skins that produce solar energy Environment, Laptops submitted by danieljoerg Jun 1 How about producing/selling Sleeves that make solar energy usable to run Dell Laptops? 17 Comments » Environment, Sales Strategies submitted by geralddarden May 30
Offer a trade in discount for a previous Dell purchase. Doesn't have to be much, just to show you take care of you previous customers. You can take the old Dell computers, and exchage them with recycling centers like: Environment submitted by parasite May 25
Shipping boxes for desktop computers and monitors are the perfect size and durability for small animals to use as a place to sleep & play. Or you can spend a few hours and go overboard like I did--anyway, it's better than sending more boxes to a landfill. giving old computers to underpriveleged people Environment, Education submitted by drorb73 May 25 **REVIEWED**
An acquaintance of mine is going to start college soon on financial aid, and does not have the resources to purchase a new computer. Currently lots of people send their old computers back to "recycling" programs whereby the machines are shipped to China where some kid breaks them open bare-handed. Instead, computer manufacturers could reinstall some reasonable software on them and give them away (perhaps at a token cost) to under-priveleged people here in developed countries. I have no doubt that lots of perfectly decent 3 year old computers get junked - and there are lots of poor Americans and Europeans that could use these machines for another several years. Wouldn't this be more "green"? Thanks! avoid the use of plastic for computers Environment, Desktops and Laptops submitted by siger May 22 could you avoid the use of plastic , as its price is inscreasing , in your computers. It would be a great innovation and a real green action. 9 Comments » Environment submitted by falbert May 22
In the last shipment of computers I received I was shocked by the amount of plastic wrap used for items like power cords, USB cables, VGA/DVI cables. Do these items really need to be individually wrapped in a plastic bag. I can just imagine the tons of plastic used by Dell annually... Environment, Laptops submitted by mauribe May 7
I work in energy consultancy in industrial environments. I have to use a laptop by [sometimes upon] industrial equipment. Industrial environments feature vibrations, high temperatures, dirt and magnetic fields. Also, when you're walking down the aisle you can't type, but take notes instead. Adopt the truly Green and universal GreenPlug Power Supply standard Environment, Laptop Power submitted by diggaddict Apr 30
Green Plug is the first developer of digital technology that enables real-time collaboration between electronic devices and their power sources. With Green Plug, however, intelligent power supplies communicate with electronic devices and agree upon device power requirements for all devices connected to them. All cables and connectors are uniform; so, they work with any device! Being intelligent power sources, they eliminate wasted “phantom power” (power that is wasted when chargers are plugged in and either connected to devices that are fully charged or have no devices connected to them) and improve power utilization and efficiency. Intoduce an option to not choose a PC component especially for the XPS Desktop Range, most of Gaming Consumers have already built a PC before and have some of the essential components already, for example, i already have a compatible Intel processor and want my Dell shipped without a processor to save money. a "No Component" limit should also be applied, and not all components should have this option. Talking from a business point of view, this could reduce electronic waste in the long run, however it could also reduce sales of the components which could upset manufacturers... |
