Electronic Inflatable Arm Sling

Healthcare submitted by wanda Jun 30

I am a 47 year old Female that recently had surgery on my shoulder. The hardest part after surgery was trying to lift my arm without the aid of someone helping me. As I was visiting my Son in the hospital a few days following my surgery, I was amused at how the mattress at different intervals would shift by going up or down automatically. I know this was put in place a few years ago due to bedridden patients not being turned in a timely manner and were getting bed sores. As I sit there with my arm in the cloth sling I said wow that would be neat if they made a sling that would raise your arm at 30 minute, 45 minute, or 1 hour intervals. This would aid in speedier recovery time and help those that are well advanced in age. 5 Comments »

web check - in info

Healthcare submitted by tbone22 Jun 30 **REVIEWED**

It would be very helpful if there was a way to send information to the doctors office via the web, such as children's temperature, blood pressure readings, and other vital information before going to the office for a visit. If there were products developed compatible with the usb port that could make these readings for the elderely, or babies, or disabled patients to help speed up treatment and solutions to ailments. Hardware connectivity, and software development would increase the number of patients served by all medical facilities.

click to start

Healthcare submitted by bswanson Jun 30

Dell should make a small device that would be housed in the lower part of the seat belt device. when clicking the seat belt together the device would act as a kill switch allowing the car to start when the key is turned. Without the two together the key turn alone will not start the engine. The safety belt has to be worn and in place before starting the car. The lower part of the belt would be hard wired to the computer under the rug sending a signal to the computer that the driver is safley secured in the seat. This device would only be for the driver side seat. This idea is synonymous to the keys with chips that was designed for security. This idea is designed for safety of all those on the road. It does not have to stop with cars, but can be implemented to construction vehicles, private planes, buses, semi's, etc.... it would not take much for dell to partner with automakers to make this product and save lives. 5 Comments »

Dell handhelds can be empowered by softwares in the HEALTH field

Healthcare, New Product Ideas, Software submitted by ahmadvand Mar 28

Dell handhelds can be empowered by softwares in the HEALTH field. I think (according to my 4 year experience in our Ministry of Health and Medical Education) and it is obvious (according to researches I have done for health software market and 2 years of experience with networking for health using Microsoft technologies) that there is a very huge gap in this part of the market. May I ask you to help me find any possible way to interact with developers and find better communications channel to send ideas (and maybe collaborate in their development).

ldirect systems to/for doctors

Healthcare, Software submitted by drjimwarner Mar 11

Dell,
Direct to doctors, integrated systems. We are being forced to increase local security due to HIPPA, integrate scheduling and charging and billing, to lowercosts, and network health data and visit information, vfor better service and time efficiency. Please creae a cost effective integrated systems approach. Software for notes and billings is huge expenive, for no reason except marketing costs, plus systems do not work well with ahrdware. Include things like biometric security, interactive appoinment booking systems with name obscuring technology, laptops, networs and desktops and add in voice to text notes, you can own the market like now!

Never allow backlit keyboard

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Healthcare submitted by pell Feb 1

Please, Dell, never produce or sell backlit keyboard or keyboard notebook light.

The thing is to work at night without strong enough ambient light can cause the strong injure to eyes health. Do not encourage your customers to become invalid and loose ability to work.

Health is more more important than fashion, and beauty, and requirements and requests of sometimes careless end-users.

Moreover backlit keyboards are often bought by parents for kids. How shall you live with knowing your business injure health of thousands of children?

make little (RED) and environmental friendly stickers

Advertising and Marketing, Environment, Healthcare submitted by greythanis Jan 30

We have the Intel or AMD processor stickers
We have the OS stickers.

What about a "certified environmental friendly" (or something to that effect) sticker to raise environmental awareness, as well as possibly a little sticker on the (RED) initiative for qualifying pcs?

This would raise awareness, both to the one buying the pc and whoever sees the pc. It wouldn't cost a huge amount, it'd make dell stand out, and make the consumer feel good. 3 Comments »

healthcare integration

Healthcare submitted by hodsondds Jan 30

I am a dentist. Currently there is very little intigration between dental software programs and vendors of products such as digital cameras , digital x-rays , intraoral cameras , paperless charting programs , internet links to share chart information and X-rays, the list goes on and on. Each dental software vendor have their own proprietary codes that they will not share with other companies. The links they provide are cumbersome to use and seem designed to discourage the use of all but a few products provided by "sister" companies.Perhaps Dell would consider envolvement in this field. 8 Comments »

(RED) Goes Gaming with the Dell XPS M1730

Advertising and Marketing, Dell, Gaming, Healthcare, XPS products submitted by smotchberry Jan 25

I have already commended Dell in a previous post for their efforts regarding the (RED) initiative.

As what I hope will be my final post on the (RED) initiative for a while (don't wait to overdo a good idea).

I think a great idea that would add the cherry on the cake in celebrating the initiative would be to design a limited edition XPS M1730 decked out in a (RED) theme and tricked out with the latest gear (perhaps you could even partner with Intel or NVIDIA and get access to their latest or even next-gen tech - a man can dream!). After crafting this beautiful beast of a laptop you could then have two options on how to make the most of it:

A) Auction an example or two off, like you've done with other products in the past and donate all or the majority of the proceeds to the global fund.
B) Churn out a limited run of maybe 10, 50, 100 or 500 pieces of the laptop, and maybe just in this case, make the contribution to the global fund a little higher than average?

From that point on, you could decide to take the laptop to the mainstream depending on the critical success and financial viability of the product.

And who knows? These laptops might hold onto a considerable amount of their value compared to traditonal laptops and serve as a great reminder of how we fought to make AIDS slowly become a thing of the past.

Newly Added:
As a bonus feature these laptops could come with a NVIDIA-optimised Folding@Home preinstalled, to add to it's virus/disease fighting arsenal! 11 Comments »

Medical Ideas

Healthcare submitted by roberto Jan 17

This idea involve a product that will help physicians, insucrance company and government to have better accountability for the medical care of our community. Some companies have programs called EMR(Electronic Medical Record) but few survive due to the expense that is involved in upgrading and maintenance. Dell Corporation can provide EMR geared to different medical specialties and be able to communicate with insurance companies and government agencies. Product could be expanded to incude local pharmacies and allow to submit prescriptions at the time of the visit, verify that is approved by the insurance company and be able to pick up prescription in a timely manner, This product will be of benefits to all parties. Any thoughts? 7 Comments »

Suggest: marketing to niche of approx 50 million people

Advertising and Marketing, Healthcare submitted by howardnyc 10/30/07

Suggest: marketing to niche of approx 50 million people

Quote: “...The number of adults with some form of disability is by all accounts growing, in part because the population is aging. Disability rates among older people are substantially higher, greater than 40 percent of the population 65 and over, compared with 19 percent of those between 16 and 64, according to census data. ... The portion of the population with a disability will rise from one in five today to nearly one in four by 2030...” source: Open Doors white paper, quoted NYTimes 30-Oct-07 .

Q: who is the “impaired user facilitation manager” at Dell?

Observation: you could learn something from Kathy LaPointe, mobility motoring manager, Ford Motor Company (hint: $1,000 allowance for new car buyers to defray costs of adding adaptive equipment like wheelchair or scooter lifts, steering wheel knobs and pedal extensions)

Dell, replicate the success/efforts within Healthcare to other sectors

Healthcare submitted by premcv 08/10/07

You have worked for and created a very good Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions architecture and structure for the Healthcare industry. Some of the solutions provided are truly amazing.

I suggest that Dell replicates the solutions architecture albeit modifications required for the different Industry sectors viz., eGovernance, Automotive industry, Media and Entertainment, Finance, Manufacturing industries, to name a few.

I’m not sure whether these solutions are/is accessible/available to Healthcare providers in India and around the world. The Healthcare architecture you have could work wonders for these Healthcare providers, especially those in India. Healthcare in India is a huge market, which has now started to open up to solutions providers. If Dell were to tap into this, it could be a great move and help build the growing Dell brand.

Another sector making news is eGovernance. It has only been in the last 5-6 years that the government has opened up to the need of eGovernance. I know for sure that Intel and Microsoft are helping the Indian Governments in some states for the implementation of eGovernance. If Dell were to enter this sector, it could see quite a good amount of increase in market cap.

Just in time healthcare education

Healthcare submitted by louise 08/07/07

I am trying to impart 25 years worth of nursing to a diverse group of nurses in a rural acute care facility. Some have no internet access at home and are not familiar with the e-mail that is available to them through the facility. Others grew up with technology. As a group there is a varying degree of healthcare knowledge performance gaps. Finding ways to impart the background knowledge that I have is a challenge in that I can not provide real-time training to everyone when a situation becomes a teachable moment or when an MD is explaining a key piece of info that helps the nurses assimilate a bit more.
I would like to partner with Dell and Google (I already sent them my idea) to use laptop with video/audio file capbilities, projector and other available technologies that would enable me to capture those teachable moments, file them and make them available for all staff to use. Learning on the job in a health care environment occurs in a both synchronous and asynchronous manner.
I think I can prove, with your and Google's help, that RNs can assimilate and synthesize knowledge better by "just-in-time" or real-time learning. Also, I think that by having tutorials, inservices, and posting staff meeting notes in a way that viewing can be synchronous or asynchronous, we can accomplish what we need to in a more efficient manner. I would enjoy the challenge that this opportunity presents and believe that this can translate into decreased business costs related to developing proficient nurses within a healthcare organization. Your time and energy on my behalf is appreciated.
Thank you.

Dell should cure cancer

Dell, Healthcare submitted by markvs624 07/28/07

This idea came to me as I was reading about the proposed $300 laptop for every household. It seems to me that if knowledgeable users actually believe that Dell and its big business cohorts are genuinely interested in cutting their profit margins to provide a state of the art, top of the line notebooks for purely philanthropic purposes, then they might also be open to the strictly non-profit venture of curing all forms of cancer... or at least the top three. Make no mistake, this is an original idea. No one has ever asked Dell to cure cancer before. Maybe they'll be so moved by the request that they'll also start selling their latest notebooks and desktops at zero profit margin and become a non-profit organization from which all can benefit. 7 Comments »

VitalKey

Healthcare submitted by mbm836 07/12/07

Hello! I was reading in the new issue of Readers Digest the interview with Mr. Dell. The quote about the problem with the way our medical system is running is a major issue. A small company in Richmond, VA is trying to deal with this problem, or at least the medical record side to it. The company's product is the VitalKey, a small USB thumb drive that contains all of your medical records, along with other vital records that would be essential if an emergency should ever occur. This drive can help prevent medical errors, and can become your voice if you are ever in any kind of accident that left you unable to speak, telling of any medicines, or allergies you may have that interfere with any kind of treatment essential to your health. This device is essential to you well being, as it eliminates the long wait for any medical records from scattered medical offices in an emergency, If anyone should like any more information about this product, the website is http://www.vitalkey.com/ 3 Comments »

Improvement of Medical Care

Healthcare submitted by mhvstrick 07/06/07

I read that Michael Dell wanted to improve medical care in the world. I am a MD and I tried this idea on Bill Gates and never got to anyone. Basically, most doctors understand anatomy, physiology, disease processes and pharmacology. They could understand/ust the latest medical information if it were readily accessed. However, try to search Medline about a topic and you may see that thousands of citations are listed, but one can only get abstracts or titles for most items.

I have tried to search a particular topic for a medical school lecture or a paper and end up spending hundreds or thousands of dollars and many hours to get information that I could comprehend and use with only minutes of time were it easily available. I proposed that the world literature (at least the last 10 years) be loaded into a databank (in English) where it could be accessed by hyperlinks or other mechanism that allows one to go right to the information desired without reading 10,000 full articles. This would be a massive undertaking, but once done, the database could be kept up to date with maybe only a few hundred programmers. Medical schools, hospitals and doctors could subscribe to this database (I would pay $5,000 a year myself for such access).

I believe that if a physician could have ready access at his fingertips to the newest medical knowledge, then the average doctor could be a super-doctor. If the doctors are too lazy, sell access to the patient for a particular medical condition and they could determine if they are receiving state-of-the-art therapy for their conditions.

I have seen patients waste money and time (months or years even) trying to obtain treatment that is effective, only to finally find a knowledgable doctor after three of four tries.

I realize that this is a software problem, but hardware would be needed to use this program. I contacted the best known software GURU first and was ignored, so I thought that Michael Dell may have an interest.

Sincerely,

Maurice Henry Van Strickland, M.D., F.A.A.A.A.I., F.A.C.A.A.I., F.A.A.P., A.C.P. , A.M.A.A., Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Kansas School of Medicine, Wichita, Kansas 2 Comments »

Dell start a smokeless campaign on the Dell campus and related sites

Dell, Healthcare submitted by jorge 07/04/07

Dell start a campaign to get your smoker employees to stop smoking. For one do not allow anyone to smoke on the Dell campus or affiliated sites. Start a detoxification program as well, you need healthy employees who will file less health claims, which in the long run save you health insurance money!
