Dell - Please Step up your Game, this is rediculous!

Advertising and Marketing, Sales Strategies submitted by epic4life Jul 2

I have been a dell fan all my life, but at no point have I been on the fence until recently. I have always picked dell over Hp, compaq (when they were around) , sony and toshiba. However, recently dell has not been as innovative as their competitors, especially Hp. I shouldn't have to wait months, years, or forever, for dell to match or better an HP idea that has already come out. Here are a couple of examples.

Hp Mini - It is be probably 4-6 months before dell answers

http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/ctoBases.asp?ProductLineId=539&FamilyId=2769...

Hp Touchsmart - Seriously, one of the coolest touch screens I have seen, where are you dell?

http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/desktops/IQ506t_series/rts/4/computer_stor...

Hp Mediasmart server - Centralize backups, remote access, streaming, pc recovery....dell where are you on this one?

http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/notebook/notebook_hp/home_servers/1/access...

Hp Blackbird and voodoo - Seriously, drop this alienware crapp of a company you bought and make the XPS line more intuned with modern style, with all the bells and whistles....the Alien box isn't cool.

http://www.hp.com/united-states/voodoopc/index_f.html

These are just examples of Hp vs Dell. When you start looking at other companies like apple, gateway, samsung, acer, asus, and lg, you start to wonder who is making decisions behind dell's walls. I can care less about colorful notebooks, but rather I am looking for innovations and technology advancement.

Please don't turn your company into a lowend computer manufactorer like compaq. I have never been an hp fan, but they are appealing more and more to me as dell drags their feet with the mini, the home sever and overall innovation.

For all you linux fans: I wouldn't mind seeing dell make a linux product (within reason) that mirrors their window products. For exmaple: A windows homeserver and a linux (preconfigured) home server.

Please vote for dell to make adjustments to their product line to keep them more insync with the rest of the competition and not worry about stupid things like laptop colors...... 20 Comments »

Multi language sites in aisan markets

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by ap0stle Jul 2

Dell has no english language support for it's south korean web site. It is unforgivable. If Dell understood the south korean market then they would know that there is a massive community of americans, canadians, australians, english and kiwis ( new zealanders) living and working there. Most stay between 3 and 5 years. One of the first things these people do once they have settled is shop for a desk top or lap top to make the stay more enjoyable and productive. I have ordered an XPS 420 from the site, and it was an excercise in uncertainty and discomfort. I had to use friends who could speak korean and english to help. Now, I am recieving important information about billing and delivery......entirely in the korean language, despite the fact i made notes on my order that i am a foreigner and dont speak the language.

The government of south korea and all the major internationals such as LG, Daewoo and Samsung have long been promoting the english language within their business infrastructure. To have a major internation such as Dell operate here and not provide the smallest measure of english language support really shows that some where, someone does not understand this market. I wonder how many sales Dell has lost because of this?

The answer service to the hot line is all in the korean language. This is the 4th dell i have purchased... and i plan to be here a long time, but next time, without any english support, i will not be a coming back to dell for my computing needs. At the moment i am actively trying to locate the name and contact for those responsible for the asia pacific service and support operations. Dell, if you are reading this, then I sincerely hope those responsible for the south korean market take action. Comment »

Venezuelans should pay for Dell products in their own currency

Sales Strategies submitted by rafaelrojasc Jul 1

I just bought a Dell laptop and everyone tells me how nice it looks like and they love the price. However, they can't buy it because the Venezuelan government has imposed a policy regarding a $400 cap on electronic purchases made with a credit card per year.

Why Dell hasn't set up a Venezuelan unit with a website that should accept purchases in our local currency is beyond me, and I know you're losing a lot of sales because of this simple fact.

I'm bringing this one up just to see how far it goes. 1 Comment »

OCZ Core series SSD should be offered on Dell systems

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jul 1

The SATA II Solid State Drives are currently priced at $169 (32GB), $259 (64GB) and $479. Dell should offer these on their systems or produce a competitive alternative. These are a significant cost savings over Dell's current offerings of a 64GB SSD as a $575 upgrade.

make a desktop that actually fits on a desk...

Desktops, Sales Strategies submitted by bjizle Jun 30

Dell regular desktop is very big and ugly.if you ever opened one you would know that all of the space inside the shell is not used. and lets face it how things look and how big it is is key to getting it sold and if dell put a lil more effort in designing a better looking desktop and take that big one off the line they would get a lot more sold. because dells are real good computers... 5 Comments »

All of Dell Computers

Dell, Sales Strategies submitted by dermatologist Jun 23

Dell will fare MUCH BETTER and stand overwhelmingly strong against all other major competitors, if they can offer the best component assembled configurations of all their PC lines (especially demanding XPS lines) internationally.

Dell should test drive all the system stability at one spot in the world (regardless of the variation of component brands), and when the system is stabilised, then do they BEGIN THEIR RETAIL AROUND THE WORLD (relatively) SIMULTANEOUSLY. This will SERIOUSLY pack punches against all other vendors and competitors.

There are so many markets out there that dell did not fully penetrate. Dell provides good systems and powerful ones for the XPS, but when compared to the individual countries aimed at selling premium computers, dell cannot fully defeat the them as their parts are either not available, NOT TESTED IN THE REGION YET, or something else. If this continues, dell will never push the market frontiers.

A simple sentence to sum up is: If you have the parts, test the system and sell it all around!!!! NOT some lopesided sales and market here and there with so many loopholes for other vendors to pin your systems down.

No offences or racism or any sort of insulting remarks are meant, but why is the Asian market always the slowest in the import of premium technologies, when there are a HUGE POOL of consumers willing to invest in a premium dell system, and when 4 billion people live in Asia alone???!! 1 Comment »

Stop forcing built in cameras!

Accessories (Keyboards, etc.), Sales Strategies, Laptops submitted by winoffice Jun 23

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1720?c=us&cs...

The fact that Dell is forcing built in cameras on the XPS notebook PCs is already bad. But now, Dell is starting to force built in cameras on other products as well! Now I can no longer get the Inspiron 1720 without a built in camera!

Does Dell understand that not all people will use it? Why then should I be forced to pay for what I will not use? Stop forcing built in cameras. On all of your products, make built in cameras optional if anything, but no way mandatory. 15 Comments »

XPS notebook feature refresh

Sales Strategies, XPS products submitted by atxguy512 Jun 22

With the pending release of the "Studio" Line of Inspiron notebooks, it appears that Dell is looking to take back the notebook market. There are new design features that put the "Studio" notebooks on par with Macbook Pros... slimmer/update design, slot loading DVD +/- RW and/or Blu-ray drive, BACK LIT keyboard, eSATA drives and a host of color options.

For info on "Studio" Dell see: http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/15/even-more-on-dells-studio-1536-1536-and-th...

I'm an XPS fan, so please consider bringing the same options to the m1330, m1530... especially the BACK LIT keyboard. This is the one feature I love about Mac(s). Also, consider uping the video options on the m1530 to offer a 512MB option from nVidia. 3 Comments »

Discounts, Credit, or Cash for Recycling Old Laptops and Computers

Sales Strategies submitted by wendaline Jun 19

I think Dell should offer customers either a discount, credit, or cash back for recycling their old computers. Both HP and Toshiba do this, so, why not Dell? If they did this it would help the enviroment while gaining loyal customers or keeping already loyal customers from going to their competetors AND they could refurbish the old parts and start selling refurbished computers at lower prices for those of us who can't afford to spend a fortune on a new computer. Come on Dell execs listen to your consumers, the ones who pay your salery, and keep us as your customers. Do you really want the other companies to win? Comment »

Create the "napkin PC"

Sales Strategies, Desktops and Laptops submitted by jervis961 Jun 18

"The Napkin PC aims to bring out the creative passion of the user both individually and in group sessions. It encourages spreading out and allows for multiple creative workflows that can interact or just as easily stay independent. It encourages group interaction and collaboration by allowing any number of interfaces that can be passed around or pinned up, but which all communicate with a central network."

Sales Chat Staff Should be Informed of Product Launches

Sales Strategies, Service and Support submitted by slateslate Jun 18

I asked a "live sales chat person/avatar" when the Latitude E-Series would be released.

Sales Chat Person didn't know and stated that the sales chat staff don't have that information.

Given that the E-series should be released in the next couple of months, someone should inform the sales chat staff of the approximate date of the release.

As an aside, the E-series looks extremely great. Finally something that gives the Thinkpad a run for its money.

Please don't let the initial batch suffer quality control problems like the M1330 and Inspiron 1420/1520 releases. 2 Comments »

24 Core, 48GB clusters can be custom-built for $3500. Idea: Sell one.

Sales Strategies submitted by jmxz Jun 16

Michael Tiemann (VP Red Hat)'s blog has an interesting article about a 24 Core, 48 GB RAM, 400W power cluster.

As the article mentions, this cluster compares very well against a popular model Apple:

Compared with an 8-core/16GB RAM MacPro (a favorite in the 3D community), this computer has 3x the CPU/RAM with approximately the same thermal profile, and cost $3500 in parts, which is about half the cost of the much less powerful Mac Pro

Idea:
... Dell - sell these and market them directly against the 2X more expensive and 3X less powerful Apple. 3 Comments »

Offer Nextday Delivery

Sales Strategies submitted by aikiwolfie Jun 15

Please for the love of God offer next day delivery of pre-configured PCs. I've just had to buy a new M1530 at short notice. Which meant I had to go to Tesco. Which meant I had to buy a Vista machine. Which means I'm now mentally traumatized and scarred for life!

Seriosuly getting Vista up and running for the first time is just a barrage of pop-ups. All one after the other. Some at the same time. If I could have ordered a Ubuntu system directly from Dell, I could have avoided that whole mind destroying experience. 3 Comments »

Sell Ubuntu PCs in Tescos

Linux, Sales Strategies submitted by aikiwolfie Jun 15

Dell please sell Ubuntu PCs at Tescos. I've just had to buy a PC at short notice. Not being able to wait for you to deliver one, I had to buy a Windows Vista machine. Now I feel dirty and I'm mentally traumatized and scarred from the whole experience!

Vista is a seriously annoying OS! 4 Comments »

Sell all Products/Options in ALL Countries

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by missdiva Jun 8

As Dell is supposed to be an International Company, can it now get its act together and ensure that all Products/Options are available in every Country they sell to.

When a new Product/Option is introduced ,it should be available for sale on every Dell Website ....not just the USA.

An example of Dells poor marketing strategy is the ' when will the LED screen for the 1530 become available in the UK/Europe/Australia ' debacle.

There has been numerous posts on various forums asking if/when this option will be introduced, simply because Dell gives priority to US customers (LUCKY THEM!) We still have no idea if it will ever be reach our shores....

Please change this unfair sales practice. 2 Comments »

Streamline configuration of systems

Dell Web Site, Sales Strategies submitted by sarena Jun 6

I am frustrated by the fact that, depending on how I *get* to the customization process (e.g. through "as advertised," "savings spotlight," or simply various entry points to the configuration process of the SAME computer), I get DIFFERENT configuration options. Depending on how I get to the customization screen I can get different CPU options, RAM options, hard disk options, graphics options...and of course, different PRICES.

I think there should just be ONE customization process for each model. For example, instead of there being FOUR XPS options to customize on their starting page (http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=ca...) it would much more straightforward to have the full range of customization options available for each basic system. 2 Comments »
